A World of... Science?
#3
"So you, claim he took this device without paying? Is that right?" The judge's voice echoed throughout a courtroom, everyone within watching intently.
"Yes, that is my claim," the irritated shop-owner replied. She had been waiting for a proper trial for hours, and now they were just going through boring processes! It would have likely been less of a hassle to just let him take it.
"And you say what, she's lying?"
"No, I didn't pay her. But she never said I would have to! All she mentioned was that she would give it the capability of those boxes-the, er, phones!"
"For the last time, I FUCKING TOLD YOU!" the shopkeeper yelled from the other side of the court. Gaston opened his mouth for a retort, but was interrupted in his first syllable by the judge.
"Both of you enough. Gaston, so am I to believe you two are close acquaintances?"
"We most certainly are not!" the burly man replied.
"So how did you meet?"
"I went to her 'phone store,' and she made this!" The judge stared at him for a moment, before speaking again.
"So this was a business deal?"
"Yes, it was," the store-owner replied from her stand.
"So you went into her store, asked for this, and took it without paying?"
"Yes, I believe that's what I said," Gaston said sarcastically. "Look, I need to get out of here to figure out how to use this thing! So please, conclude this foolish display."
"You're a moron." The judge glared at Gaston. "You went into her store and got something without paying? Idiot."
"Why! I am not-" Gaston was cut off by the judge.
"One week of community service in Tier 5, and pay her back within a month. Case closed." Gaston and the store-owner both got off of their stands and began to leave, Gaston shuffling toward the door.
"Ah, no. You're coming with us," came a voice from behind him. Turning around, the burly man saw it was one of the armoured men in black and white. The man roughly grabbed Gaston by the arm and began pulling him away to a back door, taking him forcibly lower into Coruscant.
"This is terrible! You can't do this to me! I'm the amazing Gaston!" He kept pleading to the men, who he suspected were soldiers.
"Shut up, citizen. We'll be taking you to the service centre, regardless of whether we need force." Gaston gasped. No one talked to him like that! He moved to grab his bow, but found it not there! Noticing his movements, the stormtrooper pulled out a pair of handcuffs and put them on Gaston. He was taken aback! No one treated Gaston like this! Soon, though, the stormtrooper had moved on, taking Gaston with him into a small, closet-like space. Suddenly, and without warning, the space began descending, apparently rapidly. After several minutes of waiting, Gaston was taken out and shoved into the back of a large, metal box with wheels on the bottom.
"Stay here," the stormtrooper commanded. In the truck was another man, nearly toothless with dark hair going down to his shoulders wearing strange, dark clothing.
"Hey there, you get put into community service too?" he asked in a strange, high-pitched voice.
"Yes I did," Gaston replied, recalling what the judge had said his sentence was.
"Well, that's nice. We'll be the best of pals. My name is Billy. Billy Bob Steve." The man's voice fluctuated, going from loud to soft with only a few words. Gaston said nothing, sitting quietly. Suddenly, the box started moving, and Gaston got scared, looking around nervously. The man laughed. "What's wrong, boy? You ain't never been in a truck before?" Gaston was rocked side to side, unprepared for the rapid motion. But soon, it was over. One of the soldiers came to the back of the truck and opened it, motioning behind him before two other soldiers grabbed Gaston and the man, taking off their handcuffs and setting them down.
"Building's right here," one said. "Just do what you're told, and keep your head down, and you'll be free to go soon." Gaston looked around nervously as he walked inside, trying to prepare himself for whatever strange things would be in here.
