Lakefront Property Closing Papers
#11
Yuuka bit her lip to shut herself up as she let the Ice Fairy speak. Man, she understood now why Cirno'd had that power limiter on, if Letty had been dealing with this. She hadn't expected the hardest-hitting of her issues to come out right off the bat. Now Yuuka looked like the asshole for being secretive. But that was just her modus operandi- there was no need to come out and just tell them all what had happened to bring her to where she was- where she had been.

Of course, the only solution in a situation like this was to spout vague philosophical nonsense at her.

As the four of them landed, Yuuka took a couple steps towards the ice fairy- just close enough that she could gently set her hand on Cirno's head. It wasn't much for reassuring by itself, but she cleared her throat. This would be a long one. "It would be a lie to say the past doesn't affect the present. Of course it affects it- that much is true of all things. But the past does not control the present, nor does the present control the past. Only the present rules the present. Even if what you've done can't be forgiven- that doesn't change that it's done. It's a tale of long ago now." She closed her eyes now as she spoke. "It's as much of a sin to live chasing at changing the past as it is to live without caring of the future."

"Humans- mortals- live only to die. To chase immortality, for them, is a greater sin than any. It is their purpose to die. They are given just one chance at life. But that doesn't mean their deaths are the end. In their own way, they leave their legacies upon nature." She pointed a purposeful look at Clownpiece. "All born from the soil will eventually return to it. Even though we are not-"

A pause. "No matter what we are. Even if we are not humans. Certainly, even if it's your hundredth, your thousandth try, there must be some reason those tries were given to you. There is a reason you would be twice-borne into these worlds of second chances. The hands of this world know reason, even if those of Earth do not. If you don't know what that reason is- make it your purpose to learn. We're all the same in that way, too."

It was a bit reassuring, at least to her, not to feel so alone in her fate. Regardless, she took her hand off of the fairy's head, and took a step back. "But that's enough of listening to an old lady preach for today. I'll let you two have some time alone- we should find a doctor." She punctuated this by shifting the weight of the still-unconscious hell fairy on her back. Not waiting a moment, she took off again, floating in some direction at her usual relaxed pace as Clownpiece followed suit.

The trip was awkwardly silent, after the prior monologue from Cirno. Neither was particularly interested in speaking up, as there really wasn't anything as important as the sort of things Cirno had said earlier on their minds. Unpleasant, but...

Thankfully, there was a village that wasn't terribly far from the lake- just a few minutes by flight, even for Yuuka. As the two landed, some of the secondaries backed off from what they were doing, almost clearing a path. It only made sense. Not only had they flown here, two out of three of them had wings, and they were all still bloody from the last fight. One of them looked pretty much dead. The only reasonable reaction was to be cautious- it was so reasonable, Yuuka barely even noticed it. Instead, she simply kept walking, glancing at the signs on each shop or other business as she passed.

Finally she paused in front of one building, slightly nicer in furnishings than most in the little town. It seemed like the closest thing to a doctor they offered here, at least. With uncharacteristic politeness, she ducked in the door with a smile. "Good afternoon," she chimed before she had even gotten the welcome spiel, motioning Clownpiece in behind her as well. "We're in need of some assistance. Would you be able to help?"

The doctor, a dark-haired man seemingly in his late thirties, looked them over as Yuuka set the fairy on his front desk as if she was a broken toy. "Huh? You're-"

"Not from around here. But we're still paying customers, aren't we?" Yuuka answered the unasked question, eyes moving to the shelves of primitive medicines set up. "I can make it worth your while."

A bit mortified, the doctor cleared his throat. "R-right... But you're not humans. My experience is... Unnnnfortunately...? Limited..." He drew out his words like he was trying to teach a child how to read a sentence. Yuuka simply pouted back, more offended at being spoken down to than disappointed. Though he hadn't been struck, the doctor flinched as if he had when he saw this gesture.

They might be here a while.
