Return to Normality
#9
Vin let a small, if repressed smile cross her face for a moment as she noticed Asriel’s joy at seeing a place that looked so much like her own home. The Pale Moors were by far a bright sight compared to the city capital of Luthadel. Her own home was the streets, or it was until less than a year before. She had managed to scrape by, thinking her strange powers to be luck, always having enough from traces of pewter from a mug, or powdered dust mixing in with her food happening to contain a few shavings of brass. She didn’t know how to use her allomancy until Kelsier had saved her from her thieving crew. Until he died not long ago, she had begun losing her natural distrust, and finally felt she had a family again.

“And now I’m here” she breathed, not intending to be heard, in that way someone with tin enhanced ears speaks to themselves.

At the mention of candy apples Vin just looked curious, “some kind of, food?” she asked Chara. “We have something called apple where I’m from, but what’s candy?”

The only time she had tasted an apple was when she managed to steal the mostly eaten core of one that a highborn had discarded into the street, it was one of the sweetest things she had ever eaten. Fruit weren’t allowed to the skaa, only colourless slop, the nobility were the ones who would get the food of the skaa slave plantations.

“Sorry if I’m so distant, I uhh, also appear to have no money, and my life as a thief has long since ended.” Her stomach felt very empty, she knew she hadn’t eaten in a while. Usually burning pewter could abate things like the need for sleep or food, it was only another argument in her mind.

“Where could I earn money here?” As she asked, her mind came to yet another terrible realization, in the Final Empire allomantic metals were made very specifically, an alloy so much as 1% off would make her sick instead of powerful. She doubted metals were so strictly graded here, why would they be? She would probably have to summon her metals using this...
“Omnillium? Is that what you called it? Do you think I could use that to summon metals?”

Vin looked over her shoulder, suddenly realizing just how different this world was.

“These primes who attacked Darkshire here, who were they? Can we help fix the damage that was done? Will they come back?” If they came back, would she even be able to help without her metals, these Primes sounded like they were each as powerful as a mistborn in the night.

“You say that you are no Mancer and yet I saw you appear in front of me, I do not know of anything that is not magical that can allow that.” she stated, raising one eyebrow.
