Return to Normality
#7
Going through the terms in her head, she realized something about primes and secondaries. They were the equivalent in this world of nobility and skaa, high born, and low born, and Vin was no noble. As the guards surrounded the child she fought her reflex to reach for one of them and throw them to the ground. She resisted the burning urge to demand they back away, but she didn’t know who she should trust. “Everyone will leave you, everyone will betray you in the end, let nobody close.” Reen insisted in the back of her head. Just in case, she flared her tin and kept it that way until the exchange was over, waiting to see how it would resolve.
When the slight altercation had ended she walked with her acquaintances through the gates of the city, a dark, nostalgic city greeting her. “If what I understand is correct, secondaries are trodden on here, I did not expect to become one of the nobility upon my transference here.” she said to Chara. “What is expected of me here? Going to house balls, or taking part in house conflicts?”
“I need to find steel, or pewter, a file, and coins, and a glass dagger, and… There is a lot that I am missing.” she said, glad to still at least be wearing her mistcloak. “I am glad for the training I’ve done without my metals, without it I may have been weak and frail here, luckily I am not.”
Cobblestones passed underfoot as they walked through the streets, “This world wasn’t prepared for me, how have you found it, strange mancer?” she nodded to Chara.
