Return to Normality
#6
The darkshire garrison at the east gates was a grim-looking bunch. The chainmail they wore had marks of dirt and wear, and their spears looked to have been recently used, judging by the occasional hint of red atop them. "...A new prime, huh?" One of them finally stated, stepping forward. "Corporal Larris. We'd prefer to just be called 'people', but... ya say you're a prime, huh?" The man asked. "Just make sure you don't cause trouble here. We get a lot of you primes 'round here, and not all of 'em are friendly. After the recent attacks, more than a few of the guards are a little easy to draw a blade or a flintlock, so... Make sure ya don't give 'em good reason to, y'hear. Other than that, you're free to-"

Larris's speech was cut off by a group of guards's sudden movements, all centered around the young Asriel. "Hey, look at this. Looks sort of like a little... goatperson, doesn't he? " One of the guards stated.
"Goats are a symbol o' satan where I'm from. Think 'e's evil?" another one asked.
"One of yer kind belongs over in ambrosia. What are ya doin' near darkshire?"
"Maybe he's one of Illidan's hellspawn. I don't think we should let him in-"

Chara pushed past the guards, as they made a circle around Asriel. Their heart-rate was elevated. Their pulse was pounding. The faintest echoes of magic wisped around them. For a brief moment, it was all the adopted Dreemurr could do not to reach for the knife hidden under his clothes.
But doing something like that would not save their brother under these circumstances, not with this many guards, and they knew Asriel would not be willing to forgive him easily for it. No, these filth were not worth it.

"Greetings, perhaps we should introduce ourselves to you gentlemen. I am Chara Dreemurr. This is my brother, Asriel." Chara stated calmly. "Forgive us for appearing so suddenly, but despite our appearances... we're just a couple of kids, looking for a place to spend the night. We ask that you let us through."

The guards looked at each other for a moment, then dispersed, and Chara's body finally, visibly, relaxed, as he let the flows of magic vanish back into the ether. This place might be more stressful on him than Asriel, after all - a cloistered place, full of all of the intolerant humans he'd grown to know and meet. Looking over to miss Venture, they noticed that the allomancer was staring intently at him. Had they caught the slip? One part of them was hopeful that whatever else, Vin at least understood the need to protect a sibling... but then, Vin was a human, and humans might not see such an urge as natural.

"fine, all of you can go through. Just don't cause any trouble, alright?" Larris added, rubbing at the bridge of his nose.
