Well, TB does it, every other youtuber does it, you can find lists on Reddit and I heard a handful of recommendations in the CBox. Might as well bring this to the Arcade and to a wider audience! What games on Steam would you recommend now that the Summer Sale is happening?
My recommendations:
Furi. A boss rush game where you play as honorabru weeb a Samurai-esque guy, against a bunch of really well-made bosses. The art is from the artist that made Afro Samurai, so there's bonus points for that. Be prepared for frustration though - the game is NOT easy. But it's not unfair: if you lose it's cause you're bad.
Mount & Blade. There's a pack right now that's really well-priced. The game is old but apparently still very good. This one was recommended on the CBox. Please remind me who it was so I can give credit.
Shadow of Mordor. Great game and you'll get in the mood for when SoM 2 comes out!
Skyrim Special Edition. If you do not yet own Skyrim, get this! It includes the DLCs and the modding community is amazing!
Terraria. It's kinda like Minecraft but 2D, people would say. It's very fun IMHO if you enjoy exploration, fighting monsters and bosses, building up a home... all sorts of stuff.
Transistor. One of TB's favorites, I believe, and just great overall. It's got a very distinct art feel and great voice actors.

Call me crazy, but i'm a blood bowl 2 Fan. For 10 bucks its a real steal. Its a tactical NRG fantasy genre football game, where killing, hurting and weapons will be used upon the field. I love it.

Way more of an experimental indie game, but I've been enjoying Crypt of the necrodancer. mix your standard roguelike with a game like Rhythm Heaven Fever. Makes you complete a strategy game to the pace of a song. Not a TON of gameplay, in about a week I've made it to zone 3 out of 4, but its only $2.99 right now for me.
If history is to become legend, it first must be recorded.

Tharsis is a great little game that plays like a game version of the movie Sunlight (something goes wrong on a space mission - it cascades). Best part is that it plays REALLY FAST! And you can play a whole game in maybe half an hour. Love the music and story too.

Dishonored, Don't Starve (Reign of Giants and/or Don't Starve Together <which is multiplayer and awesome>), Subnautica, ARK, Banished, The Forest
...
I'm a big survival-sandbox game fan as you can see. All the games I just listed are survival with the exception of Dishonored (Stealth) and Banished which is a medieval city builder/resource manager- it's super relaxing to play though.
Subnautica is (not on sale currently but I still super recommend it)a pretty awesome underwater survival with plenty of "FUCK THE OCEAN OH GOD" in it, a neat world and a ton of freedom. It's relaxing and somewhat stressful at times as well, but like a good stress. It's intense but paced well I think. It never feels too easy and I never get tired of the setting.
The Forest is super macabre honestly. Your plane gets shot down and you crash land on an island with tribes of cannibals. The enemy AI is incredibly smart with different types of enemies, lots of area to explore and neat building system. All I can say about it is "Now you'll know why they fear the night."
Don't Starve is a Victorian-Gothic styled survival sandbox. It's incredibly charming and I just can't get enough of the art style and lore of the game. Reign of Giants is the larger of the two DLC- but I'd have to recommend the multiplayer version "Don't Starve Together", as it comes with RoG rolled into it AND you get an extra (free) copy of it to gift to a friend for like $15. Klei is just awesome.
Ark is just: DINOSAURS AND ALIENS. LAZER SHARKS AND LAZER CANNONS ON TREXES YOU FUCKS. The devs are pretty active, but I wouldn't recommend this if you have lower end equipment. It's not optimized so it's hard on your system, along with being a massive game.

Huh I was looking for a good horror game that's not just a walking simulator, then I remembered someone gifted me The Forest ... might have to give it a go. I like the idea of these sandboxey games, but then I spend a lot more time dying and reading wikis than doing anything exciting.
Speaking of cannibalism, that's a great feature of Tharsis. Your crew have health, stress levels, and dice to maintain (which are like, how much shit they can get done). One of your crew dies in the intro, and you have the option of eating their preserved body if you have no food to restore your dice and get shit done. You can even kill off others for the express purpose of getting more meat.

My friend does LPs of The Forest, and based on those I could see myself having a decent amount of fun with it for cost.
Now I just have to upgrade out of my current toastertop.
