From Rule Page [5] Combat and Judgment

Quote:Aftermath

At the end of the fight, the winner may kill their foe or spare them.  Either way, the loser is removed from the island and any of the items they gained ON THE ISLAND (or any artefacts they brought) go to the winner.

The survivor will receive some Injuries, but wounds are almost entirely story fodder and I will probably not be tracking Damage.

So my initial perception was "One Loss" and you're gone.  I wanted to avoid the thing where people might hunker down if they're low, but I think that the nature of 'winning' the game makes it illogical to just camp somewhere and people might be more willing to stick their neck out if they know it ain't sudden death.

I'm wondering if people are more interested in elimination happening when they lose their 20 points.  This would mean people would be able to lose at least one fight before being officially eliminated.  Losing a fight would still result in the loser forfeiting anything they have gained so far on the island.

Thoughts?

i think that would be more fitting for Dante's Abyss, considering its always been a marathon type event.

But either way I'm cool.

I always liked the idea of a second chance kind of thing where you don't instantly lose if you screw up here and there. Plus, it gives newer writers who might not be that great another chance to keep going and participate in the event.

In layman's terms, I approve!

I would prefer the old rules, this way larger teams will spare their mates and continue to murderhunt the others. I like the idea and tension when you lose, you're out. Even though it would be in my own disadvantage.

my only issue with single elimination is that it makes this year's Dante's Abyss basically into a "Find you own opponent, tournament"

True, thats the downside of it. Though so far the majority is going for the 20 points rule Wink which i would be fine with either way

I can see merit to both sides, so I'm fine with either. Kinda not helpful to throw in a null vote, but I figured it was better than not saying anything at all.

If someone draws a bad hand and somehow ends up on the same square as a team of 3 or more they are going to have a hard time winning the battle giving them less of a chance.

20 DP seems more fair to the people going solo, plus it may make it more interesting ?

Edit: would that mean the participants must die before getting sent off /taken off, the island?

I kinda prefer sudden death. I actually like both ideas, but the "Second chance" rule would make DA run longer, become cluttered and generally prove a hassle for those running it. Sudden death is much cleaner and helps quickly whittle down the competition.

I've never been in a fight on this site, so I'm all for keeping the bog standard rules.
"So you'd pursue the deeper truth? It isn't one the weak could bear."

"Prove yourself ready to face it. I'll not hold back. My needle is lethal and I'd feel no sadness in a weakling's demise."

"Show me you can accept this Kingdom's past and claim responsibility for its future."

'those' running it?

It's just me and this doesn't create more work for me in the slightest.

Trust me. Just ask anyone what DA was two years ago and they can vouch, lol.

(bog standard?)

The rules aren't changing. Just tweaks to a person's longevity.

I approve of this. The only thing better than kicking all of your asses is doing it twice.
And, we dream of home I dream of life out of here Their dreams are small My dreams don't know fear I got my heart full of hope I will change everything No matter what I'm told How impossible it seems We did it before And we'll do it again We're indestructible Even when we're tired And we've been here before Just you and I
Don't try to rescue me I don't need to be rescued

I kinda like the idea of sudden death more than second chances, if only because I don't know what the 20 points is about.

... 20 points of Damage?

So would accumulated damage make it harder to win fights?

Either way I'd prefer this to the single elim.

If I understand correctly losing your 20 DP does not automatically mean death? I'm fine with either system since elimination can still happen if you get thrown into the arena, and hunkering down (and possibly waiting for everyone else to gather the quest items) is as valid a strategy as any. No real preference here Tongue

Each character starts off with 20 set points of health and every battle you lose them based on battle dynamics and variables like how strong your enemy is, how many there are. If you lose the battle it is assumed you will receive more damage.

At 0 you can no longer battle and possibly die
