Weiss took in a breath, a hand coming down to her stomach, smirking as she walked towards the restaurant door with Ruby. It was a little embarrassing for her to be caught like this, but then again, she really hadn’t had anything to eat. She felt so hungry she could faint!
Smiling, she once again thought about what they’d been through with a wince. It felt like Weiss had gone through hell and back, just for the small treasure of getting her friend - well, more than friend - back in her life. Six months of hell, then a week of trials afterwards. Still, Weiss closed her eyes in contentment. It was over. Life wasn’t normal, but it felt far more normal than anything else did. As she stepped forward, she knew it was with the trust of a soft hand in…
Weiss opened her eyes.
Her hand wasn’t holding on to anything. And as she looked at the plain, brick alley in front of her, she realized she was in no form of restaurant.
Weiss’s hand twitched, trying to find some evidence of the phantom hand.
“...Ruby?” Weiss breathed, her breathing growing thick as her hand went to Myrtenaster.
No.
“How sweet.” a chilling, feminine voice spoke from behind the confused huntress. The voice had a misty, feminine quality. It sounded almost ordinary, like a regular girl’s voice, but the edge it had at the end of it, and it’s creepy reverberation, made it sound horrifying. “...You really care for her, don’t you? It makes sense. Something had to be keeping you going.”
“Who are you?” Weiss asked, barely keeping her voice from cracking. She had no idea how she’d gotten here. Her first instinct was that she’d teleported, but if that had happened, she would have at least noticed something like that. Last she remembered, she was daydreaming about how things had changed in her life, and suddenly, Ruby was gone, she was here, and this creature was talking to her behind her. But if Ruby was gone -
“What have you done with her?!” Weiss spat, Myrtenaster exploding into her hands as red energy crackled along it’s edges. “If you touched her-”
Weiss’s voice faltered, as she heard a sucking, squelching noise. Her eyes widened as she realised where she recognized the sound:
It sounded just like when she’d stabbed Okor through his undead abdomen in the arena.
Weiss went to turn her body, to see her opponent, only to feel a sudden, wrenching pain as her body resisted her, deep in her...
In a cold sweat, she looked down…
Five jagged, bony daggers were jutting out of her stomach.
“Oh, I didn’t mean to worry you. She’s fine.” the voice answered, as Weiss tried to focus on the words. The whole room was starting to spin around her, and a dull buzzing had started to make itself known in her head.
“We can even go talk to her, if you’d like.” The voice continued. “After I’m finished with you, of course. We still have so much to do, partner."
Weiss tried to move, to do anything, but as she tried to turn her head, a rough, gritty hand grabbed her ponytail and wrenched her head back to the most horrifying face Weiss had ever witnessed.
“Hey.”
“Look at me when I’m talking to you.”
Weiss wanted to scream, but instead, the pain in her perforated stomach finally caught up with her, and she found herself falling into unconsciousness.
