Nerdy ass conventions and geeky ass costumes.
#1
So this weekend is Colorado's major anime convention, Nan Desu Kan and I thought I'd bring up the obligatory "Do you guys cosplay or go to cons?!" topic. I rarely ever go to anime cons because well...I don't like anime that much. I used to and then I went to an anime con. BTW if you're Japanese, don't ever tell people you're Japanese at an anime con. You'll be flooded with "Way-toshi weh nom-i-ay David-o-kun" and "Kawaiiiiiiiiiiidesuyosouneka".

So how does a Japanese guy get revenge on weeaboos? He goes to their conventions as Deadpool and ruins their day.

Yeah, Colorado has Denver Comic Con and I go there to just be the best damn Deadpool that ever Deadpool'd. But I go to anime cons to cause mayhem, pull pranks, make tasteless jokes and generally troll anime dweebs. All in good fun of course.

And yeah, this costume isn't the outfit you buy from a store/ebay/amazon. I made it from the ground up. Designed the top and bottom, put it all together, had to follow a tutorial for the mask, installed a waistline zipper to attach both pieces of the costume and all that good stuff. It's all very breathable and comfortable, gives me flexibility to run and jump and do stunts (yeah I don't just stand around and be a smart ass, I actually went through some rough athletic training to get the physique for Deadpool) and durable enough that it doesn't rip or tear. It's like...my pride and joy and every year more and more people remember my costume specifically and then remember what an amazing asshole I am because when that mask is on, everything is in character.

Made with 100% cotton
Sheer fabric for the eyes
Industrial jacket zipper line
Velcro for the mask
Leather collar for the neck piece
Leather straps for the wrists and ankles
Altered Under Armor Utility gloves
Custom converse X-Hi Tops (The heel says BAMF)
Altered backpack for sword sheaths/carrier
Hardwood bokken for dual swords
H&K MP5 SMG airsoft guns
Hunting grade gun slings
WWII era dummy grenades
Tactical Utility belt w/ canvas pouches
Pewter Deadpool belt buckle

I've never been to a con but I would love to go to one. Big Grin

I go to the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo as the classiest Proto Man around. I got my red boots, my gray pseudo-skinny jeans, my gray skin-tight runners shirt, my scarf, my buster, and my helmet. LIKE A BAWS.

To illustrate this point, here is myself and four Sailor Scouts.

That's pretty rad. And I find that reaction hilarious. Do you actually even speak Japanese?

I've only been to two cons, one purely for fantasy and sci fi writers and another for mostly comics and general stuff, both very local and small-time. I'd love to go to a proper one sometime.
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!

I've never been, but I kinda want to now.

Also, holy shit Vitruvius. That's awesome. I've never been that motivated about anything in my life.

And baby, we're all out of Vincent Valentine.

That costume, Vitruvius.

I went to Kami Con and Sukoshi Con in my hometown of Birmingham, AL. I've been Dr. Franken Stein from Soul Eater and Harry Dresden (why yes I do like the books that much) at Kami Con, and I went to Sukoshi Con as Sanae Hanekoma from TWEWY. People kept mistaking me for Shizuo Heiwajima, so I'm going to actually go to next Kami Con as Shizu-chan.

Always wanted to cosplay as Ganondorf (since I have the nose for it), but never had the time or money...

Whew! So this weekend, man. Crazy. I got back yesterday at like, four in the morning so yeah, not been around.

Proto, it's nice to see someone else capable of getting girls to hang all over them. I actually saw a Proto Man this year. No scarf though, just the helmet and buster so I was like "Pff, we all know the scarf makes the man."

Omni, I will put it this way: My ability with Japanese is to the point where if I was dumped in Japan, I could ask for directions, order food, make introductions, ask for the bathroom and that's about it. So I could survive, just not make small talk. Which I'm not much of a talker anyway. I've always wanted to go to a writing convention. It wasn't until I went on an RP hiatus that I really worked on developing skills as an actual writer.

Vince, cons are pretty fun. Denver Comic Con is the love of my life, this anime convention is kind of just...training ground. I go and try out new jokes and material and work on the whole Deadpool personality. DCC is where I strut my shit like a fabulous peacock and that's the con I spend 8 or 9 months out of the year in the gym for so I can look the part perfectly.

Harry, nice! Cons are fun. I enjoy putting all the stuff together, especially when you can naturally pass as a character.
