Character Name: Lament
Character Source: Original
Character History: Lament has only fragments of memory remaining of his homeworld. Fragments which, by and large, are swathed in fire and enshrined in death. He doesn't know where he lived, what he did for a living, or what he called himself then. The only thing that is perfectly clear to him is her: a woman's face, collected in flashes like photographs of over a thousand distinct moments; little things, like sitting on a park bench with her, or holding her infant son while she looks on and smiles. Whether the child is also his, or if it is instead his grandson, he is unsure. His attention is always fixed on her. He knows that she ages, but he can never match an age to her face. He knows that she laughs easily and kisses him often, but he can't hear her laugh, nor feel her kiss. He has access to the events of a lifetime spent beside her, captured in his head: Beautiful, timeless, and torturous. It tortures him because, though he can see her, he can never reach her, never truly understand her. There is no context to the scattered, shattered images. He doesn't even know her name. He knows only that he loved her; and that, in the end, he failed her. His clearest, sharpest memory is one of her hanging over a cliff, her hand in his, trying to pull her to safety. The ground beneath his feet crumbles, and he falls backwards, her hand slipping from his grasp...and then he wakes up to blankness.
To blankness, and to the mad grin of a cruel god. To Omni. To what should be death. To what must be Hell. To what might--just might--be a chance at redemption.
Physical Description: Lament is an adult male human with partial spiritual infusion, a la Danny Phantom. Whether this was his state on his homeworld or if a transition occurred while he was in transit to the Omniverse is unknown. Lament is largely convinced that it was the latter case. At the time of his arrival in Nexus, he wears clothing that is more or less business-casual--slacks and a buttoned topcoat over a long-sleeved shirt. Going by appearances, he is about 30 years old, though it's difficult to say if that is his true age or simply the image he projects of himself. His skin is incredibly pale, almost albino, and his eyes change color depending on his mood. The stronger or more unstable his emotions, the wider the color spreads out from his irises. Since his arrival, they've been a solid, pupiless onyx, or else a blue dark enough to masquerade as black. He has no body or facial hair, and the hair on his head is a rather boring shade of light, muddy brown, thinning slightly at the top.
Starting Stat Explanation
ATK 1: Lament doesn't really want to hurt anyone. He doesn't have much of a grasp on his newfound powers either. Of course, both of these circumstances may change in time.
DEF 4: Lament's part-spirit form is very tough and quite resilient against most attacks.
SPD 2: As another advantage of his new form, Lament can move fairly quickly when the need arises.
TEC 3: Though Lament has no training as a soldier (or thinks that he doesn't, anyway), he is naturally precise and sometimes frighteningly capable. His bursts of skill are unpredictable and automatic, but still quite useful in combat.
Starting Moves (1200): With Regret (300); Shock (300); Spectral Bolt (600)
Starting Proficiencies (2000): Ranged Proficiency (1000), Debuffing (1000), Area Attack Proficiency (600)
Starting Powers (1200): Phasing--An early development of Lament's ghostly powers, allowing him to pass through solid objects with ease.
Move List
With Regret (Ranged Proficiency, Debuffing)--300 OM: Lament closes his eyes for a moment with his hands clenched in fists at his side, remembering what he has lost, and worse, what he has forgotten, then he lashes out at his opponent with the full weight of his pain. He raises his hands, and a white ray of energy, roughly 2 feet in diameter, shoots from between his palms towards his opponent (or, more accurately, wherever his hands are pointing when the ray launches). The attack takes two focused seconds to prepare, plus one second to fire once he raises his hands. If the attack hits, his opponent receives a portion of Lament's pain, and is knocked back and staggered by the force of it. A character can be knocked back up to 12 feet and staggered for up to 1 second, depending on DEF. Though this takes quite a bit of energy, it's actually rather cathartic for Lament, and he can breath a little easier for the rest of the battle.
Shock (Ranged Proficiency, Debuffing, Area Attack)--300 OM: Lament struggles to process the workings of this world at times. This is his response to that strangeness, a literal manifestation of the shock and paralysis he felt when coming into the Nexus. He stands stock-still, and a bright ball of electricity sparks into existence over his head, pauses for a full second, then zips down towards wherever his opponent was standing at the time the attack began. The ball moves extremely rapidly and explodes when it lands, blossoming out to a three-foot radius and paralyzing the opponent's nervous system for up to 2 seconds. The effect is most powerful at the center of the blast. Lament can get caught in the blast, though it only paralyzes him half as long as his opponent. This attack requires a fair amount of energy, as it doesn't do much actual damage, but offers an excellent chance to set up for more powerful abilities.
Spectral Bolt (Ranged Proficiency)--600 OM: Lament fires a beam of light and ectoplasm, usually from his palm or forehead, impaling his opponent like an crossbow bolt before disappearing into aether. This attack doesn't take much energy, and in its base state deals about as much damage as an arrow from a fully drawn shortbow. The bolt can be fired very rapidly, as if from a machine gun, though it's weaker when used in quick succession, like all weapons under the influence of Omniphysics. He can use this attack while moving, though it is less accurate when he does so.
