Changing character: Abaddon to D.J Phylactery
#1
Character name: D.J Phylactery

Character source: The twisted minds of /tg/, slightly adapted for Forgotten Realms.

Character history:

Now, this is the story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the lord of my evil lair.

In West Waterdeep, born and raised
In the backstreets is where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out, maxin', relaxin' all cool
And a stark difference from my life with Ghouls.

When a few men, my troubles they understood
Finally bothered to arrive in my neighborhood
Oh, when I took a chance, approach them I dared,
I finally knew my destiny: "An Adventurer!" I declared.

I begged and pleaded with them on that day
Until they relented, and took me with them on their way!
We traveled together until we inevitably split,
For I had seen my calling, to hit it!

I arrived at the courts, a lowly cad.
So there I was, knocking heels with high class.
And among the ladies, well, I was not the topic of their dislike.
Hmmm, this might be alright

But wait, I hear they're prissy, bourgeois and all that
Is this the type of place that they should send this cool cat?
I don't think so, I'll see when I get there
I hope they're prepared for the future prince of the lair.

But it turns out, one of their husbands wasn't just a lout.
And to the cause of evil, he was very much devout.
Well, to see what happened next, you don't need a seer.
He sprang with the quickness like lightning, and I disappeared.

When it was over, my flesh was but a veneer,
Cursed to rot eternal, far too many years.
In the rhymes I fancied, I was ensnared,
And I fled to what became my evil lair.

Adventurers came, in leather, robe, and plate,
And fed a hunger only their souls could sate.
Looked at my kingdom, I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the prince of my Evil Lair.
D.J Phylactery was once a traveling bard, serving as a court poet. Sadly, due to the frequency of which he participated in extramarital affairs, he attracted the attention of a hidden necromancer. The Necromancer's jealousy and rage were made apparent on Phylactery's mortal form, cursing him to wander the earth while he rotted to naught but bone, speaking in nothing but rhymes. After his transformation, he fled into isolation, seeking to never be seen again by mortal eyes. Sadly, intentions do not always equal success, and he was forced to use the magical energies involved in his transformation to fend off his attackers. Quickly developing a taste for their soulstuff, he began to expand his influence, merging his previously famed gift for rhyme and song with his magical prowess. As he began to encroach on vengeance, and repaying his malefactor in kind, he was taken to the Omniverse.

D.J Phylactery is quite insane, a perfectly reasonable state of mind given decades of undeath and constant rhyming. However, at times, the shattered remnants of his psyche fall into place, allowing him to think with unerring clarity.
Physical Description: (originals only)

D.J's Phylactery's skin and flesh has long since rotten away to nothing, leaving him little more than a skeleton animated by fell powers. He clothes himself in rich and expensive finery, kept loose around his ravaged body to hide his curse, and promote the image of being nothing more than an eccentric nobleman. He is very much fond of jewelry and gold, and often enchants his adornments for additional power.

Stats:
ATK: 2
You won't be able to feel his jibes in the morning,
DEF: 0
But your loved one will be too busy for mourning.
SPD: 3
His Ethereal Tongue is the quickest,
TEC: 5
DJ Phylactery's burns are the sickest.

Starting Proficiencies:
Ranged Proficiency (1000 OM)
Debuff Proficiency (1000 OM)
Area Attack Proficiency (600 OM)

Starting Powers:
Telepathy (1500 OM)

Starting Moves:
The Amplifier of Eternal Burns (600 OM, requires Ranged, Debuff, Area Attack Proficiencies, Telepathy)
A simple artifact, enchanted with a variety of illusion spells to throw the user's voice, The Amplifier of Eternal Burns is empowered by the souls of its victims, feeding its dread powers with those unable to withstand its fell onslaught. As an added bonus, it acts as the focus of DJ Phylactery's magic, allowing him to concentrate his powers on the unfortunate who believed they could step to him, reading through their thoughts, then their memories, in search of the sickest burn imaginable. Unfortunately, the spirits inside long for a hero to set them free of Phylactery's clutches, and often fly to the subject of his assault when his concentration slips, granting them the power to respond in kind. Of course, D.J P is unable to scour the depths of his victim's mind without having at least double their technique.

Total OM Spent: 4700 OM out of 5000 OM.
I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

First of all, I have to give you credit for the rather novel and hilarious concept.

That said, I'm....a bit befuddled about your move. So, if I understand correctly, the amulet drains energy from its victims while simultaneously also enabling you to search a person's memories for material to use for verbal pokes and insults. However, thanks to the trapped souls within the amulet, the victim can do the same to you. Did I get that right?

Well, come and rattle me bones, I think it's time for the Omniverse to bear witness to my tones.

You're largely right, although the device is closer to a wand than an amulet. It's more of a microphone.

Been a while since staff has responded to this, so I'll pop in here for you.

Needs to be edited to be in accordance with this:

From the rules:
Quote:Reading deeper into someone's thoughts without their permission would require at least double their TEC.

Once you have made the necessary edits, you will be good to go and we will further you along in the process. Sorry it has taken us so long, I believe this app has just become lost in the commotion of changing staff and what not. We're on it now though! ^_^

Function-wise we can let this go at the 600 OM, however, in order to get it approved for use I am going to need for you to clarify a few things in your description.

1) How does the drain effect happen and to what extent are the effects? Basically, what does it feel like when it is 'Feeding' on someone. Fatigue? Pain?

2) What kind of range does the drain effect have?

3) Are you executing the drain effect or is it meant to be passive?

Basically, detail this out and add more clarity, because as it stands I'm not sure if it is properly balanced enough.

1) Should their spirits be crushed in battle, I shall cease their prattle. Their very essence is devoured, for with souls am I powered.

Essentially: At the end of a battle, the amplifier consumes the soul of the defeated, causing unimaginable agony, shortly before their horrible death. It's somewhat similar to the colt, except it can kill me as well.

2) The amplifier burns eternal, its appetites infernal. It offers you no chance to run, its end faster than any gun.

Unless the battle takes place over the dataverse, the amplifier is able to take its due. Presumably the battle will take place within a moderate distance of both combatants, in which case the amplifier almost immediately claims the defeated.

3) It's hunger is indiscriminate, the fallen's ends are imminent.

I have no control over the effect. Once someone has been defeated, they are claimed.

Just to clarify, basically the move only allows you to probe one's mind for info if your Tec is double their's and if you win the fight, the trinket will absorb the players essence, so to speak?

Friend, you're playing with a full deck. Your assumption is correct!

Okay, as long as you are not doing the drain effect during combat, it's really just a fodder move, so I can actually come down on the price and bring it to 300, however, for clarity's sake, I am going to ask that you either simplify the description or that you add a "layman's terms' blurb about what the move actually does. As it is now, the way it is written, it will be confusing for anyone who wishes to role play with you. Edit the move for more clarity and I'll get your roster/log set up right after! Thank you for your patience and again, we are sorry for the wait!
