April Community Accolades
#1
Welcome to Community Accolades, your monthly platform to highlight the success of your peers.

Monthly Community Accolades entails nominating and voting on who you think best epitomizes the categories selected for each month. Categories may vary each month.

This is the nomination thread.

Nominate your choices, and after one week, we will move onto a head-to-head vote between the two individuals with the most nominations (unless someone has +5 more nominations than the next guy… that’s a landslide).

For now, all you have to do is read the category, think of someone who best exemplifies it, and explain your reasoning in 2 or 3 sentences. Post that all in this thread. There is no rule against nominating your own characters, and you do not have to nominate for all categories (just those you feel comfortable with).

Winners will become ''Community Stars' until the next vote. They’ll receive a Medal!, a blue user title, and a bonus ‘reward.’

‘Best’ Character – Which character has you engaged the most?
‘Best’ Writer – Which writer wowed you the most?
‘Best’ Solo Story – What story did you find most riveting/entertaining?
Most Helpful – A staffer or a member who gave you amazing feedback on a story or was simply there to help you sort out some of your problems.
Rising Star – Which up-and-coming member stands at the crème of the crop? (must have joined within the last month and a half or have less than 8000 OM)
‘NPC of the Month’ – For the most entertaining non-player character – can be a prime or secondary.

‘Best’ Character – Jon Snow

I am reconfirming my nomination for Jon because he eschews the ego and hardcore action seen in other threads in favor of meticulous character development and a slow-paced, detailed look into Jon Snow's mind.

‘Best’ Writer – Which writer wowed you the most?

Holding off while I catch up on some reading, but I hope to edit this in before the 30th.

‘Best’ Solo Story – Gilgamesh (A Nation Reborn, among his other threads)

Gilgamesh's boundless creativity is apparent in every post. He strays from the standard "do a quest" or "walk around and hit stuff" approach of many other members and focuses on his long term plans. I'm rooting for the once and future king with every post.

Most Helpful – Atelos/Gilgamesh

Always available on Skype or in the chat logs to answer my unlimited stupid questions or provide guidance. A great all around guy who truly seems to care about the people and the well being of the site.

Rising Star – Udyr

Udyr flies below the radar with great storytelling and a vested interest in becoming involved with the world around him. His attention to detail and desire to impact the Omniverse on a large scale has become apparent to me through our conversations, and I think he has a lot to offer.

Sorry for the short explanations but here we go!

‘Best’ Character – Crona-Your first post reminds me a lot of another psychotic cannibal that I used to write with…Oh well. I love the timid nature of Crona and I think it's pretty funny the contrast between Ragnarok and Crona.

‘Best’ Writer – Whirda. He manages to write a lot of detail and create very beautiful pictures with his writing.

‘Best’ Solo Story – DP A Gloomy Town- You write very well and make me love the character even more entertaining that I had though previously. I love the character, I love your writing, I love the story. Keep it up man

Most Helpful – Neku…I remember even though you have lots of stuff going on right now, I remember you helping some of the newer members with their posts in chat and I think that you have had a good influence on them!

Rising Star – Straizo- Second time this nomination has been up but i really love his writing and even his entrance into my thread helped me develop more feelings to his (short lived) but interesting Characters.
‘NPC of the Month’ – Ehhhh I don't have any right now.

Best Character - Deadpool - With a character like DP, there's just a slim line between 'utterly unbearable' and 'this is glorious,' and you most certainly tend to wind up in the latter. I'm a little behind with some of your DP stuff, but everything I've read has entertained me. There's just an advantage in that you can offer such a different perspective than any other character in the Omniverse that keeps me wanting to read what you post (even if I don't always have the free time to stay atop of it).

Best Writer - I still can't decide, I'm sorry.

Best Solo Story - Cinnabon Island Arc (Luffy) - I know that he's technically not alone, but his pals don't really post that often and the thread is still quintessentially Luffy's to rule and guide. That said, the story so far is amazing, and it's fun to see such an interesting story play out with such a unique cast of characters. I'm always curious to see what will happen next. I'm just concerned that Luffy will be posting in this thread until the end of time.

Most Helpful - Sasuke - For all the reasons I said last month. Even though he's been a little more stretched for time, I feel like he remains the 'go-to' guy when it comes to getting the best and most thoughtful feedback you can get from somebody.

Rising Star - Strazio - When I finished this guy's thread, I felt bad I hadn't read it already. I enjoyed his treatment of the Pale Moors, for being both in-line with established lore but also adding a few extra layers to the equation. I also found his supporting cast to be fun and interesting (something I always enjoy). All in all - He's been rock solid since he joined.

NPC of the Month - Hades (Atelos) - I had a few options I wanted to consider for this one (which may be the downside to this category now that I think about it), but I feel like Hades is the NPC that stood out the most to me. I really like the Jekyll-and-Hyde aspect of Atelos and Hades. It provides a layer beyond 'Oh I have an evil voice in my head' or 'Oh I have a demon possessing me' or one of the other many ways the author could have spun the character. Beyond that, I like the subtle (potential) plot where Hades is actually the prime Omni brought into the Omniverse, and Atelos was just along for the ride. I know the author has been vague with this on purpose, but I just really enjoy the dynamic between these two. Hades really helps to make Atelos much more than your token 'gruff warrior.'

I'm gonna try to all of these in by the time nominations end.

'Best' Character - Jon Snow
For the reasons that Whirda pointed out. I would also like to say that this was a very difficult choice to make. I had to thin my favorites down to two (Doomguy the other). Really, this one came down to personal taste, ultimately. I just love how Jon Snow analyzes everything. Doomguy made this a really difficult choice. Ultimately, it came down to Jon Snow having more 'solo' work to dive deeper into his character.

'Best' Writer - Proto Man/Shang
Another hard decision. What put this guy over the top for me was the high volume of posts. He keeps both of his characters active, is currently doing a Wartortle backstory, and (thought this last one may seem kinda unfair, since he's staff) progresses many storylines along. He alters his writing style some from character to character, but still manages to stay consistent.

'Best' Solo Story - TBD

Most Helpful - Sasuke
As other people have already mentioned, Sasuke is always around to lend a hand to whoever needs it. I voted for him last month, but I would feel wrong if I didn't vote again. He deserves it.

Rising Star - Carn
This was a very difficult choice; there are so many up-and-coming writers here. I'm sure that all of the rising stars mentioned are worthy of the award, but I'm gonna nominate CARN
His character and current thread are both very creative. also, I've seen his writing skill improve with every post. If you haven't given Carn's work any notice, you should.

NPC of the Month - Hammond
Hammond, from the Avenger thread, is pretty cool. He is basically a battle-hardened higher ranking stormtrooper, whose duty is to ready novice stormtroopers for battle. Sasuke has spent loads of writing and time to flesh him out, and its evident.

'Best' Character - Deadpool
I said it on the Book Club post I did for 'im, and I'll say it here; Deadpool is just the perfect mould and fit of a character for the wackiness and pure chaos the Omniverse is a lot of the time. I found his takes of breaking the 4th wall to be really interesting, also; that he physically knows he's being he's being written out as a character on a role-playing forum.

'Best' Writer - Straizio
For similar reasons Proto voted him. I found his take on the Pale Moors to be exactly as I'd imagine it in my own head, and I liked how he changed from first person to third between his posts, though it got a little confusing at points. He took sometime to flesh out and give the NPCs he wrote a lot of character, also, which is one thing I love in writing, though I sadly struggle to imitate in my own works.

'Best' Solo Story - The World of Omni and The Last Avenger - Raincheck
Even if I was a bit behind when I read this one, it really riveted me and got me pumped up for when I take Jon into that storyline. The cast of characters in there was colourful, and there was a lot of action going on which kept the story engaging and had me at the edge of my chair as I was reading it.

Most Helpful - Sasuke
I know he won it for last months, but I didn't vote for him on that round and I feel I should vouch for him here. Sasuke's looked over every post I've made for Jon so far and given me really insightful and helpful feedback. He has a real drive and motivation to help people out, and I like that. He's certainly a dude who I hope sticks about for a long while.

Rising Star - Shay Cormac
As someone who's something of a fan of the AC series (though Rogue and Unity were a bit suckish, in my own opinion) I was pretty happy to see this character be picked up. I enjoy the take the writer does on him, and the direction the character's headed in is certainly interesting.

'NPC of the Month' - Dmitri (Search for Power)
My options were kinda limited for this one, since I feel that how interesting and engaging an NPC can be depends on the writer in question, how he perceives them and how much time he takes to stop and develop and flesh out the NPC in question. I thought Dmitri was a cool guy in this thread, and was fairly nicely done.

'Best' Character: Deadpool
Humor is a fairly hard thing to do, particularly in a RP that focuses more on drama and action, but Deadpool really nails it. As I said in my book club entry, it's really easy to do a terrible DP, but that the humor is well done yet dialed back enough to that the other aspects of the character have their time to shine makes it feel like I'm reading his comic book.

'Best' Writer; Jon Snow
There's a lot to like about how Jon Snow writes his stories. There's a lot of feeling and careful crafting of the world that makes you want to keep reading yet not so long that it's intimidating to start.

‘Best’ Solo Story: Four Tasks for the Chosen
The harsh life of the Frozen Wastes is written very well in Chosen's previous works, what I love here is that he's no longer just trying to survive in this icy hellhole, but now he has a goal and what keeps me coming back to this topic is seeing how the Undead overcomes the challenges with cunning and and lot of sword work

Most Helpful: N/A

Rising Star: N/A

NPC of the Month : Hammond (Avengers: Raincheck)
I admit that I'm a sucker for A Father To His Men characters, but what puts the man here that that's he's not just worried about his men, but also his home and family. This is a caring man, and he balances between making sure the soldiers under his charge are ready but also holds nothing back if it means that they can do their job.

Best Character - Deadpool

He does a great job of portraying Deadpool without making him obnoxious. I think it is a very difficult and thin line from being quirky and interesting to just being downright ridiculous and he does a good job of staying interesting.

Best Writer - The Chosen Undead

He/she almost went under my radar, I happened to be bored and work so I started reading his threads in the Frozen Fields and I must say they are absolutely great. Great scenery and good use of pacing kept me reading through until the end. Really looking forward to more adventures from our Chosen hero.

Best Solo Story - The Chosen Undead (Four Tasks for the Chosen)

This thread isn't completed yet, but I have high hopes for the consclusion of this quest. Once again Chosen does a great job describing the scenes, especially his ascent of the mountain. I would suggest to anyone that hasn't read this yet to start following it because it's going to be a great ride.

Most Helpful - Protoman

Man, this guy is the man. He gave me a fantastic review in the book club and even helped me with my writing when I asked him for some opinions. Just a swell guy all around.

Rising Star - Shay Cormac

I haven't played any AC games so reading their thread is a very interesting experience. I like the direction their story is going and the way their character is developing.

‘Best’ Character – I would say Jon wins this. Green Dreams, his inner thoughts, and generally the underlying processes running through his head earn him best character easily.
‘Best’ Writer – I would put my vote towards Straizo. He does excellent work with characterization, description, and the like. Straizo is a believable, falliable, character, as evidenced by the bodies that he seems to create, despite his best efforts.
‘Best’ Solo Story – I have to say Straizo's the search for power cinches this one. It was very well done, and did a splendid job of showing off the interior workings of his character.
Most Helpful – Doomguy gave me some great advice regarding some concepts I've been working on, and has generally been a supportive and wonderful member of the community.
Rising Star – Shay, for certain. He does excellent writing, and the swashbuckling nature of his character is apparent. It's always entertaining to see a more historical or fantastical character enter Coruscant, and deal with the hazards of everyday life. Coupled with his excellent dream sequence, he has my vote.
‘NPC of the Month’ – Behemoth, in Gildart's Needless carnage easily wins this for me. Behemoth is a clever, ruthless secondary, with noble goals. I always admire a cunning character over a charismatic one, and Behemoth's jailbreak is admirable. It also displays a rarely seen attitude towards primes: Tools. Behemoth used Gildarts as one would use a screwdriver, applying him in precisely the right areas, and then trying to toss him into the works to guarantee his escape (fortunately it was unneeded). I do hope to see him pop up in a latter storyline!
Torcher of tomes, slayer of sorcerers, taker of ears, and flayer of men. Reasonable rates.

Best character- Mami

Mami has a couple of threads this month, one of them she collaborates with Sasuke and it flows very well. When I read her work I get a strong sense that she knows her character well, the character is relatable to other characters, and that the audience's intrigue and same incline to action never ceases when she is around. Her presence is complementary to any thread she's in and never has a boring reaction.

Mami gets best character in my book because she is always on the go, stays true to herself and is compatible with many other partners in the Omniverse. Her fight with Harry was great, invigorating, and a fun read for everyone.

Best Writer- Harry Dresden

The duel with Mami was superbly written. I enjoyed your style of concise details that fell into place with the context of his character. In battle, Harry's descriptions were vivid and really painted a picture in my mind. Harry didn't just "tell" his moves but he showed them and he did this masterfully.

You both did a great job in the thread and each of you wrote wonderfully.

Best Solo Story- Protoman's Makings of Legend

After reading a good portion of it, I found myself really enjoying the style and how entertaining his adventures became. It's a fun story, good as well as ever changing plot, and I like the many dynamics of the evolving Wartortle (well, you know) and his sunglasses are way cool. I found it to be an imaginative adventure and it's also very inspirational. It quickly became one of my favorite things written on the site and I can't wait to finish it.

Most helpful- Sasuke

He is very social and seems like a helpful guy, if I had a question or wanted some advice I wouldn't hesitate to approach him even though I haven't gotten to know him that well.

Rising star- Shay Cormac

After looking at his joining thread I thought the character looked very promising, I especially like the moves he has created so far. I can see him doing well here and like the character. Keep it up!

NPC- Behemoth

After some thought on the general topic of character interaction, I realized I had a great time scheming using Behemoth as a supporting character in the jailbreak. He conquered the thread after he was introduced and I have to say, Gildarts would probably have caused some needless carnage without Behemoth's crucially executed tact. I gave him a cool power that mainly planned for their escape, but it actually (subtly) made him more useful and more much powerful than even Gildarts in many ways because of where a battle against Behemoth would actually be waged: His mind.
