Omniphysics and the Cognizance Thereof
#1
I brought this up earlier in chat, thought it might be worth a thread.

It's always been my thought that Omniphysics are not an OOC excuse for how things operate, but an actual, real aspect of the Omniverse itself - hence why powerful characters in their own series are confused when they arrive in the Omniverse to find themselves depowered. There's an actual, real thing that happens to them, that changes how they operate, and they're aware of it.

Extrapolating on this, given that the huge majority of the Omniverse is comprised of "secondaries" that can actually, you know, die, and are probably interested in not dying, it's been my assumption that they have probably experimented and quantified the rules that govern the Omniverse to the same extent that we, the players, have ourselves. For instance, if a threat arises on Coruscant that's identified as a Telekinetic, response teams would be trained and know that they are generally safe outside of a 60 meter radius, unless the Telekinetic has some sort of imposed Condition on how its powers work.

So, are Omniphysics an actual thing, or strictly an OOC tool? I think the former is more interesting, myself.

Definitely agree that Omniphysics, if they aren't, at the very least should be a real and quantified thing. Your example of a response team fighting a telekinetic Prime is spot on and that's how I'd write my posts whether it's true or not. A response team defusing a bomb would have at least a rough idea of the blast radius and keep their distance or take the necessary precautions. Prime abilities should be no different.

NPCs don't ALWAYS follow the same rules as PC Primes - they were made as game guidelines first and foremost - but mostly what you say is correct.
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!

In that case, secondarily:

It's been my assumption that all occupants of the Omniverse are subject to the same rules as Primes in regard to how their stats work (though as you clarified, NPC's necessarily follow the same rules). For example, any item that a secondary uses, and any damage that can be caused, would not exceed their own innate Attack stat. For example, a Stormtrooper with a blaster and an Attack of 2 can hurt you by shooting you, sure, but is unlikely to be terribly lethal to anyone with a few points in Defense.

If not, and blasters and other firearms are as lethal as they are depicted in their source material, a potential way around this discrepancy would be the IC existence of a production company run by an NPC Prime - one that has the somewhat unique ability to Infuse items with his/her stats, or perhaps Omnilium through some other process. This Death Merchant would essentially be selling enchanted ammo or blaster packs en masse to various powers, allowing their common soldiers to wield weapons with higher innate Attack potential than their own wielders.

OR, perhaps items forged not from Primes, but made from resources found in the verses, are capable of bypassing that usual restriction. With the theory being that Omni is responsible for the expansion and spontaneous creation of land within the verses, any minerals therein would have an upper limit of potential energy only bound by Omni's own stats. So bullet created by a Prime through spontaneous summoning would only be able to cause as much damage as the Prime's Attack stat indicates, but a bullet made out of steel and gunpowder mined and forged from Omni's creations would behave like Omni would expect a bullet to.

I like the first two explanations because it doesn't require any rethinking of how weapons work within the rules as I understand them.

It's more or less that Primes are arming secondaries, and/or summoning them with inherent power by putting more omnilium into their creation (in the case of monsters or space marines).

But the Omniverse is full of mysteries, and I like to imagine there are many routes to power - leaving us open to future storylines. Hell I don't mind people coming up with special storylines based on original lore ideas, just as long as they go through me. (And for those seeking this, I generally say "sounds cool!" to most minor things that don't affect the 'core' lore, though deeper ideas make me go "hmm" and have to furrow my brow and think about it for a bit)
