Nippur/NB RP OOC
#1
Okay, so, it would seem as though we have multiple concerns who are interested in moving into Nippur in the hopes of revitalizing and potentially governing that particular section of the Endless Dunes.

Now before this all just gets mashed together haphazardly and becomes the Omniverse's newest salt-lick, I feel as though it's prudent to lay everything out on the table and make sure we can at least come to some sort of consensus as to what we're all getting in to. For the sake of easy reference, here is all of the current canonical information about Nippur:

Quote:The collapse of Nippur (stemming from the banishing of Gilgamesh), the banishing of Ganondorf, and the disappearance of Sinestro has returned to Dunes to what it was in the aftermath of the Imperial withdrawal -- chaos and little more.  The Town with No Name endures, and Carreforre has continued to develop its own, unique identity.

Quote:Travel into the interior of the Dunes from Carrefore and Coruscant has grown more common as well, at least in the months since the Gold Cross has attempted to placate the discord in Nippur.

Quote:A town founded by King Gilgamesh and his loyal followers.  Nippur grew quickly after its founding and attracted settlers from the more remote parts of the Dunes seeking refuge beneath the leadership of a man deemed a 'controversial' individual due to his penchant for violence and strong-armed responses to opposition.  Nippur resembles an ancient Middle Eastern town, with sandstone walls, temples, and other various structures.  Like many locations in the Omniverse, its culture is not homogenous, and there are plenty of more 'modern' structures, utilities, and services.

A monarchy led by a charismatic man with a deeply developed cult of personality, Nippur was thrown into permanent disarray when it suffered a string of attacks.  Two solitary acts of violence against Nippur was followed by a full-scale assault by a force of primes under the loose leadership of Sinestro, the Deputy of the Town with No Name.  Breaching the walls of the city, the primes besieged the streets of the city.  Various skirmishes broke out throughout Nippur's districts.  The Siege of Nippur was not as lop-sided as many journalists and historians account, but during the battle, King Gilgamesh was defeaten and banished.  Without their leader and with many of his lieutenants abroad, the city fell into chaos.

With no one to fill the power vacuum, Nippur's people fractured as some clung to the old regime and others sought something new.  Alongside this internal strife, the city also became the target of various raids from nomadic warlords and psychopaths. The Golden Cross, an organization set up by several inter-verse companies, has sought to provide the city with humanitarian aid, although successes are limited due to the Dunes' chaotic nature.

Quote:Q: “Wasn’t Nippur a faction base?”

A: Yes, it was, it belonged to Gilgamesh, and the stories of its creation, rise, and fall are there for you to read.  Gilgamesh has been inactive for at least a year, if not longer, and the faction he created has been gone for nearly as long.  Nippur was ransacked in a base assault, which has led to its current state (perpetual civil war and general malaise of its citizenry).  If Gilgamesh returns, it’ll be there for him to claim, since the initial investment was his own OM.  Currently, Nippur is treated like any larger settlement in the Omniverse due to its history and former influence.  If Gilgamesh returns, it will resume its duties as his base, but in the absence of that, it is officially considered the city version of a Site NPC.

So what is clear to me is that there is a lot going on in Nippur, with a lot of potential for deep story, subterfuge, intrigue and a dash of guerilla warfare. Rather than this devolving into the utter hell that was Legacy and War, I think we could all perhaps take a step back and agree on what we do and don't want to happen here. To do so, I think we all need to identify who is going to Nippur, what they want, and who they're going to meet. This includes NPCs, of which there are none currently in Nippur but really there should be.

Ideally, we should have a few gang leaders and their games, a Golden Cross representative or two, local entrepreneurs, and some leftover courtiers from Gilgamesh's rule. I can certainly come up with all of this, but that would feel selfish and too controlling, so input from others would be nice. Otherwise it's just gonna be a giant melee and...we'll get nowhere.

As far as I'm aware, these are our PC actors:

Kopaka and Hiro (Maybe)  – Acting on behalf of the Empire, will be inspecting Nippur and trying to get an idea of its current suitability for an Imperial garrison.

Anderson, Marisa, Shay Cormac, Erik – Want to go bring righteous justice to all the people squatting in Nippur/Reclaim the city for New Babs.

Aadibah and Some Person I Forgot (Maybe) – Mentioned they wanted to take Nippur for themselves.

So uh, yeah, let's get our ducks in a row before we shoot them.

Jim Raynor is set up in the TWNN as a deputy sheriff, with him and his squad of four? five? soldiers helping to keep the peace. He came onto the scene long after Nippur fell, so he doesn't have any position or interest in the landmark per se, but he may find it intriguing that people are moving into the Dunes not far from him.

I'm not speaking for the others, but Erik is going to try to take full control of the city. If it becomes clear that's not possible, he would be open to negotiations, and he would rather make a deal with Kopaka than let someone else, such as Aadibah, have Nippur.

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Does the Empire have that kind of technology in the Omniverse?

I have a Venator Class Star Destroyer. It's docked at the moment and can't go anywhere.

No idea?

There's no space verse, which means no orbit. So no.

They could potentially have a weapon of a comparable power level, but they couldn't actually fire it from orbit.

[Archangel] The Empire has zero interest in expansion beyond Carrefore. There is a reason they pulled out from the outer Dunes in the first place, because they milked that place for all it's worth and left behind a desert wasteland. Anyone who wants to reopen the salt mines of Nippur will have to do so as part of their own personal agenda. [/Archangel]

Can we please not derail this? I'm trying to make sure no one gets burned here.

Alright well, uh, if the Empire isn't actually gonna do anything with Nippur then I have no reason to deploy there. So I guess nevermind Kopaka's involvement.

Ya'll can still use this thread to coordinate though.

In the ruins of a once great city, the people eke out a tired existence amongst the fallen grandeur and sand dunes. The elderly tell their grandchildren of the days of Gilgamesh, when the streets were as gold and wealth flowed through Nippur like water through a river. There is history and pride in this land, and though it is not what it once was, the shadow of its greatness remains.

But, soon, even this shadow will be wiped out. A group of ruffians make their way to once mighty Nippur, bent on razing it to the ground and rebuilding it as a gaudy mockery. They would wipe its history, leaving us with nothing more than the memories of what once was.

We cannot allow this, friends. We must preserve this historic site and protect it from those who value "progress" over our past. Though in ruins, there's yet much to be gained from Gilgamesh's kingdom. Knowledge. Compassion. And perhaps most importantly, independence for the inhabitants. Join me in defending Nippur from those who want no more than a trophy to hang from their belt. Let's restore the city in the right way, leaving the history and bringing back what made it great instead of replacing it all with a shiny new affront to the senses.

So, who will stand with me? Who will takes arms in defense of the people on Nippur? Who will join the Nippur War II?

It's only the emperor i think who is litearlly wanting this to happen. I have no plans on razing the city unless i have to do so for my safety.

The ones that wanted to kill us.

Not all of them.

The ones that wanted to kill us.

You have mentioned it quite often OOC. And this IS the OOC board. Thus, I have to assume your claims to "destroy and rebuild Nippur in gold" were actual plans.

Now for planning purposes without emperor to give there "plans" i suggest we help the people and actually be more or less citizens (helping keep down crime and starting to rebuild nippur) this will give two positives one is that people will start to trust us more and the second one is we get the benefit of the projects we do in nippur.

That said, s'long as my boy Gilgamesh's crib remains, more or less, in its original condition, I have no reason to stop ya from moving in. Ain't gonna sit back and let the guy's place get wrecked though. He might come back, one day.

Shay and I are members of old NB and will try to keep the city as close to its original state as possible. Gotta make the big man proud.

"The elderly tell their grandchildren of the days of Gilgamesh"

Just an FYI, but I'm pretty sure that the entire OV is only, like, a decade old or something, canonically.
Even if you take into account the messed up nature of time here, I'd say there's little to no chance that an entire generation (or more) would have passed since Gil left...
