A magician, miko, and a fairy walk into a shrine
#1
As Marisa walked into Camelot she looked around and looked completely confused. “Well at least it isn’t Makai.” She chuckled as she remembered the forced trip to makai Mima made her do.

At least she was pretty lenient towards the ordinary magician. She started to fly around the sky smiling as this was one of her favorite things that her training taught her. She soon was faced with another magician who challenged her to a duel. “How many spell cards?” She asked earnestly.

This made the mage confused as she dug up a bottle of ink, a feather, and the duel paper. “Well where i come from we fight with spell cards. Also we can’t kill each other even if we win. Though if you break the rules we get some leeway.” She spun her finger around as she smiled at the rules that kept the death rate at a extremely low number.

She sighed as they opened their spell book and a ball of fire erupted in there hand. “Look, i don’t want to end this quickly but i will . . .” She pulled out her mini-hakkero before stepping onto the ground.

As they sent out a torrent of flame she slid her left foot book back cupping her magicial furnace in both of her hands before yelling. “LOVE SIGN MASTER SPARK!” She thrusted both arms out before being pushed back from the knockback as the laser went to disintegrate the hapless secondary mage.

The damage was serious with the road being turned into a crater and the smell of magical residue was strong. She didn’t know who was around but she went to check the remnants of the magician. She took the satchel and the book that somehow survived the master spark.

She then got on her broom before she started to fly once again.  Leaving the smouldering boots  there she knew she would just have to keep from using spell card rules since it seems that nobody else knew about them or at the very least followed them.

She knew that she had been flying for about an hour but the sun bared down on her back she could feel the heat cook her alive she kind of regretted wearing her black outfit.

Soon she found herself near a village. It was dusk and she could see that the people were busy tending to others. She could see the villagers glaring at her. She looked confused before someone walked up to her. “We don’t want you here so scram! Ever since they came here they only brought trouble for us! Specially that you are a witch.”

Marisa sighed as she shook her head before walking away. “I did absolutely nothing to agitate them and something else did.” She started to walk into the forest using the mini-hakkero as a light.

Soon her fear was eating at her with shadows looming at her. She also noted that sleep was wrestling her body for control. She knew she had to push on through the thick wood because she didn’t know what lived there.

She groggily reached a shrine went up to the entrance and opened it before slumping down at the dinner table and went to sleep.

She had slipped out of hiding the minute the bigger fairy had left. Though she wouldn't admit it, she was sweating- half from the fire, half from actually working to put the slightly singed shrine back together. Clownpiece had run off, taking the other fairy with her, and Reimu was still out trying to solve things. No, she hadn't really intended to help them defend said shrine- she was not that noble nor willing to risk her skin. But the fact was that she was not looking forward to sleeping anywhere with the doors burnt down tonight.

So she'd grumbled, rolled up her sleeves and got to fixing things while the fairies went off on their magical murder adventure. It was her shrine, she told herself- she may as well keep it in good shape. (The amount of people that had laid claim to the Hakurei Shrine as theirs was totally disproportionate to the actual amount of space in the Hakurei Shrine meant for people.) Summoning a new paper door or two. Pulling the arrows out of the walls. Not to mention summoning several bottles of wine because of course she had summoned alcohol, she wasn't bored enough to do this sober. She had not bothered to summon a glass today, as it just wasn't worth it.

She'd gotten here by a combination of things. General boredom with the populace of the Pale Moors was the largest and most obvious. Relative proximity to crazy shit going down had narrowed her scope further. Her choice of this one specific area in Camelot was really quite random- the capital was too busy, gates too dangerous, mages too stuffy. Out in the middle of nowhere suited her fine. But of course coincidence had it she would end up here- in the personal space of her greatest rival yet again. Truly, it was absolute fate that Mima and Reimu were opposite forces tied together in their ultimate conflict by the bounds of fate.

Or maybe Mima just had a thing for hassling shrine maidens. Who knows.

But the fact was that she had, uh, in layman's terms, "totally pussied out" upon sighting the more powerful primes that had wrested control of the shrine. Cirno she wouldn't have cared about. Yuuka alone was annoying, but not a dealbreaker. But the hell fairy made her nervous, something about the sight of her torch calling back memories of her personal experience with hell. All three of them together just weren't worth the effort of dealing with.

Unfortunately by the time they all left, Reimu had left too. And the Shrine had been ignited at least once. Which left Mima painfully bored and alone- bored enough the evil spirit had taken to being a good samaritan. Now that was boredom. Yes she had been doing chores while drinking red wine directly from the bottle and complaining quietly to herself. But they were still chores.

She was about done with yanking arrows out of the wall when the door opened. And did not close. That alone was suspicious- the fact she didn't hear fairy voices made it even moreso. Slipping straight back through the wall, Mima peered into the shrine from a doorframe. She was expecting maybe those raiders had come back to try to steal something. Reimu would have closed the door. Though she had already started gathering energy into herself-

Fortunately, it was just the usual witch passed out there.

Mima pouted a little bit, seeing it was just Marisa inviting herself in. She had sort of wanted to play wrathful shrine god at least once during this whole thing, but it seemed like that chance was slipping through her fingers. "Ugh, well. I guess that's just typical of Marisa. I think she may spend more time here than her own house." Her thoughts ran wild. The Akuryou sighed, half of relief and half of disappointment.

By the time Mima was out of her hiding spot within the wall, Marisa seemed to be out like a light. No, she had not bothered to close the door. This was the first thing Mima did once she approached. "Honestly." She spoke aloud this time, but not above a whisper. Still, she was frowning when she looked back to the sleeping human. Quickly, she floated off into one of the side rooms. "Sleeping like that," she paused as she pulled one of the blankets off of the pile of spare laundry, "you'll catch your death." Punctuated by her floating back into the room and gently tossing the blanket as best she could over the sleeping witch's shoulders.

This alteration seemed to please the spirit somewhat. Content in what she had accomplished, she lifted Marisa's hat off of her head and set it in the center off the table. Though trying her best not to wake her, Mima glanced away as she silently ruffled Marisa's hair.

Ah, you couldn't stay mad at her.

As Marisa opened her eyes she could see she had fallen asleep at a dinner table. “Mmmm i really should get up and work on something.” She rubbed her eyes as she went to grab her hat causing the blanket to roll off her still drowsy form. She could see Mima looking at her.

“Yuyuko is that you?” Mima frowned at Marisa not realizing that her master was there. Marisa blinked a couple times before realization struck her like a gohei.

“Ohhhh Ms. Mima sorry for that.” Marisa looked away in embarrassment at calling her Yuyuko. Mima sat on the table holding her staff across her dress.

“So how has my apprentice been though i'll let that discrepancy slide? Good i hope. Well i’m more interested in your studies.” Mima picked up the mini-hakkero and frowned as she couldn’t believe that Marisa was still using the magic furnace even after all these years. “You still using this old thing? I understand you have a problem with getting rid of stuff but surely you don’t need it anymore.”

Marisa looked at Mima with a frown before saying one word. “No . . .” Mima chuckled as she set the magical furnace down after getting a nerve or two out of the ordinary magician.

“In anycase i see that you have been well so i don’t think that me taking care of you is necessary.”

Marisa tapped her chin for a few seconds before speaking with respect. “I don’t, Ms. Mima, also what are you planning?”

Mima chuckled as she brought up her hand to her mouth. “Oh nothing my apprentice maybe some tormenting of the townsfolk, maybe some tormenting of the miko, you know the usual.”

Marisa nodded in thought. “Alright i’ll just stay here and scour the shrine for anything i can eat.” And with that Marisa had gotten up and began to grab a couple piece of fruit for herself and the vengeful master if she wanted to eat.

Watching silently as Marisa got up to go raid the fridge, Mima took a moment to stretch her arms. It was hard work, being a god- even faking it. She was glad she hadn't made it a full time job or anything. There wasn't much time left over for pestering Reimu with the responsibilities included.

Though, at this point, she realized her mistake- she hadn't taken proper credit for all of this wonderful and oh-so charitable volunteer work she had done. Idly she inspected each of the rooms, eventually just going ahead and "borrowing" a brush and ink from Reimu's. She'd put it back, maybe. That acquired, she sat down to work- Sat in the, well, broadest of senses. The spirit was more or less flat on her stomach on the ground as she signed her name on the very corner of the paper doors. Just on the inside. It was small enough it wouldn't be visible until the doors were completely closed, and even then, wasn't really prominent.

She'd keep that setup in mind for a punchline later.

As Marisa re-entered the room, Mima gathered up the ink and brush and set them off on a side table. The witch, for her part, didn't seem to really care about the "what may have legally constituted vandalism to Reimu's shrine" going on here. Instead, she carried a small basket of some kind of citrus fruit in and set it on the table. To be honest Mima was not much of a food connoisseur herself. So while she too sat back down at the table across from the human witch, she just kind of stared at them. And then at the Hakkero slightly to the left of them.

For just a moment, she seemed deeply lost in thought. But to be honest she was wondering if you could use the furnace like a particularly powerful candle to keep a pot of tea warm.

Snapping herself out of that useless trance, she blinked. "...Ugh." This grunt was enough to get Marisa to at least look at her. By now Mima had slumped down against the table herself, resting her head in her arms. "Well, I had been wanting to torment Reimu... But she still isn't home yet." While the spirit didn't sound particularly worried despite all that had gone on between her arrival and now, she did sound mildly annoyed. The tip of her tail seemed to flick a bit, as a cat's would.

"Well, how long has she been gone?" Came Marisa's voice, which made Mima look up, at least. She peeled one of the fruits as she spoke, managing to get a section out and eat it before Mima even had time to respond.

"Hours, now. Gotten herself involved in some incident."

"Incident? What sort of incident?"

There was a brief pause for the rather distinctive sound of the Master Spark being fired in the distance. Both instinctively tensed up a bit, Marisa nearly dropping her orange(?). That had woken her up a bit, huh.

"Hopefully... not that one," was what Mima managed, watching the magician sit up a little straighter as she turned to face that direction and look.

Man, she hoped this wasn't going to end with her being ditched for the... whatevereth time that she was on today.

As Marisa was peeling her orange she heard the master spark and stiffened all the while almost dropping her orange. "W-who the heck knows the master spark." She could swear she had the name on her mind; but it was clowdied enough that she couldn't remember the name or what they looked like and it annoyed her greatly.

She summoned her grimour after a few minutes and started to flip through it finding that all of the people she had written spellcards down with or without there approval had disappeared for some reason causing her eye to twitch in anger. She knew that she would have to rewrite the book and all its glory. "Well in any case I can sell it and get payment for writing the greatest book known to Youkai and human kind!" She chuckled to herself as she began to write in the empty pages for some new spells and attacks she had in mind, one of them being a exploding doll.

"at the very least it will give me some help to keep attacks off of my back." And with that she finished her orange before going to the front porch to summon a cup of tea and to drink it.

As Marisa looked at the Mini Hakkero she sighed, while the heat is generated and while she drank from the almost empty cup of tea. "You know the old fart made it for me with a few improvement's the thing doesn't rust like the original version did. Plus I can stuff it with all the destructive mushroom paste I need." Marisa chuckled as she grabbed the Hakkero before putting it in the apron pocket. Marisa looked around before seeing it was clean . . . too clean. She started to summon empty bottles and placing them everywhere making it look like a certain Oni decided to show up. Because that is what Reimu clearly needed.

With that problem fixed she grabbed her broom slamming the door open. "SEEYAMIMAII'MGOINGTOBORROWSOMESTUFFBYE!" She waved a goodbye to the ghostly master giving a fake smile Mima knew all too well when she talked about Marisa's father; before taking off on her broom. She had to find something of magical value to st- . . . borrow, yes she meant borrow why would she ever steal she was only borrowing till she died then they can have their stuff back. She breathed in the cool air letting it soothe her mind.

She could remember when she ran from her house.

Quote:Time and scene change to Marisa meeting up with Mima.

It was a night that showed signs of rain, and she heard her father screaming at her mother about not letting their daughter learn magic for the nth time. She didn’t know why they always argued about her but it was starting to give her nightmares and just being around them caused her to go to Rinnosuke’s, or Reimu’s just to escape the inevitable argument. She finally had everything together to actively leave the village for a while. And with that note, she opened up the window and quietly exited the house before starting to run away from the village. Rain started to hit her face as she gained distance away from the village. After a few minutes, she heard a bell faintly ring; knowing that they checked up on her and were getting the village guard to send search parties after her.

She knew that Rinnosuke would just send her back home if she went back there and It would just send her back to stage one. She looked at her prospects and knew that Tengu mountain was not a good choice due to the high density of aggressive youkai. The bamboo forest was no better with the chance of leaving it almost impossible. There was the Forest of magic but it still had youkai running around . . . and then there was Reimu and the shrine. She knew how to get to it but it was just so far and that would most likely be one of the major places the search parties look in.

Well, that just left the Forest of magic to hide in and just hopefully survive. She sighed as the rain began to fall a bit harder quickly making the dirt road a muddy mess. Even with this hindrance she still continued to run barefoot in the rain running from her troubles, her fear, her hatred for her family and the stupid arguments, were had the supposed love gone that the parents said they had? She soon reached the edge of the forest of magic and entered after taking one last look at the path she came from and asked her self one simple yet life-changing question.

“Do i want to continue? And if I do I can’t go back since it would make me look weak.” Marisa Kirisame the person who ran away to learn magic. She knew the others would look at her weird if she went down this path but it didn’t bother her; she had Rinnosuke and Reimu to talk to still if she needed someone to talk to.

Marisa sighed before entering the thick forest. Minutes turned into hours and hours turned to day’s as she looked for the rundown house rumored to be in here. She was tired hungry and frankly ready to head back except her pride forced her to continue. She sighed as she looked at the last piece of bread she had and started to eat it or rather force it down her mouth. She gagged at the soggy and frankly disgusting bread.

She could hear someone or thing break a stick and she got up looking around fearfully. She grabbed a nearby stick knowing full well that it probably won't save her but it could give her a slightly more level playing field. “Fufufu what is a human child doing so deep in this forest?”

Kirisame could hear the voice was feminine in pitch and turned to look at whoever said it. Her heart beating uncontrollably and could be visibly shaking at what she saw. It was a woman or it used to be with a crescent moon on the tip of a staff. Her outfit just screamed astral motifs. She seemed to ooze confidence and a calm but calculating personality.

“What should I do with you, child? Maybe as parts for new magic spells and incantations? Nah too bloody plus I don’t want to anger the shrine maiden yet. Fufufu that was funny. Anger? Yea right they wouldn’t hold me. So why did you even risk your life to come here?” The person? Put a hand on her cheek as she waited for the answer.

Marisa started to stutter as she tried to say something. “U-um i-it’s m-me wanting to learn magic y-yea that’s the reason.” She wasn’t lying nor was she saying the entire truth; it was clear to Mima that was a mixture of a lie and truth. Mima laughed before smiling a toothy grin with a look of discord on her face. “Ah, you are lucky then since I’m the best Magic user in Gensokyo by a landslide. Since I’m feeling friendly I’m willing to teach you, but you will do exactly as I say no matter how difficult or odd it is, you will also call me Miss Mima, Lady Mima; and I will push you to your limits mentally, physically and spiritually. You will give blood, sweat, and tears that is assured but you will become powerful enough to make any youkai regret messing with you.” Mima laughed unhinged giving Marisa shivers down her back.

The child of Kirisame was quiet for a minute or two before dipping her head and speaking. “A-alright Miss Mima when do we begin.” And with those magic words, Marisa began training through hell so to speak.

Quote:Back to present time, in the omniverse, Camelot verse.

Marisa sighed at that event, it still was burned into her mind even after all these years. There were some bonuses to the whole training, she learned how to actually work hard to get her stuff, was able to get a grip on her life and is a hero so to speak. She flew through the sky seeing the portal in the distance and a tavern nearby. She flew down to the ground before getting off the broom and entering the tavern to have a nice bottle of sake.
