[Switch] Shinmen to Gunther Stein
#1
Character name: Gunther Stein
Name meaning: Warrior Rock
Hero class-rank: A-1
Hero Name: Turtle Guard
Expired Hero Names: Iron Wall, Undying

Character source: One-Punch Man DC

Character history:
The Turtle Guard is an A-class Hero who has on many occasions defeated powerful villains, averted natural disasters and protected the denizens of the world from certain disaster. His power of Forcefields and Healing keep loss of life and collateral damage to a record low among heroes of equal power.

The above is an exerpt from a fan page on Stein's alter ego, the Turtle Guard. While it earns a lot of praise from the masses, it fails to mention that the Turtle Guard is one of the most hated heroes by villains, and it is not because of his constant interference. Even a few heroes share the view, disliking or outright hating the way the Turtle Guard handles battles.

Looking back, Stein always wanted to become a Hero. From a young age, he toughened his body by exposing it to a constant damage and hardship. At the age of fifteen he passed his test and became a C-class hero under the Hero-Name "Iron Wall."

As the Iron Wall, Stein's ability to help was limited. Much like Mumen Rider, his aid was situational at best. Most often he became a decoy or a meat shield for the glass-cannon type fighters. At this time he was seen as a humble hero and enjoyed by the locals he could assist.

The Iron Wall joined a small group of C-class heroes who worked together to overcome larger threats. During this time, Stein had gained an almost beloved status, making him both the front linesman and the poster boy of what come to be known as the Civilian Protection Service (CPS.) It was not meant to be flashy, which further increased the love for its members.

Stein parted with the association when he became the first rank in C-class. When a proper replacement could be found, he ended his association with the group on respectful terms in a public manner - even making a promise to survive for twenty years, so that they could rejoin as an S-class association.

Life as a bottom rank B-class was difficult. His natural defensive abilities made him pretty much superior to any C-class - but not in B-class. For a while, the Iron Wall fell out of the public eye, overshadowed by the many - many B-class heroes that did more against greater threats. They did not need a one-trick pony.

Eighteen years old, Stein made his way back into the spotlight as a solo hero. This time he had a new trick, one that greatly expanded his arsenal. On top of his already powerful defensive capabilities, he could regenerate rapidly. Few remembered his name as the Iron Wall, but a new name arose. The Undying.

Often he terrified the public by being seen with holes in his chest, or severe head head trauma that should have been lethal. Yet, he would always assure those that feared for his safety that he was just fine.

Not only could he regenerate from the most gruesome wounds, but he could heal others. The one-trick Meat Shield became the party medic. Many who knew their way around the battle field often tried to kill the medic first - but unlike in videogames, this medic was also the tank - and a damn good one.

The Undying was depicted in the public eye as a martyr for justice. Not only did he regain his old fan-base, but it grew three sizes in just a few short months. He quickly climbed in ranks because of the love of the people and his new healing power.

Much like in his C-class days, he was asked to join smaller groups, but this time it was mainly to boost their own popularity. Stein denied many of these requests. While villains already hated him, he soon grew to become a disliked hero among others of his rank. To others, he did not seem to want to share the spotlight.

When he became the top ranked B-class hero, he had no group to part with. Again, he chose to climb the ranks and again Stein was lost to the next tier of Heroes. When interviewed, he was asked if he would fall into obscurity again and he responded with "Of course not. Now that I'm A-rank, I'll just reveal my secret weapon."

So he did. His "secret weapon" was yet another tank-centered ability. He could create and maintain forcefields on a massive scale. He later reveals that he had known how to do this since returning as the Undying, meaning he kept it hidden all along. Stein said that it was so that he did not overshadow the other Heroes, as they did him, that he did not care for the spotlight as much as they did.

As an A-class hero, Stein's alias the Undying started to shift yet again. Very few heroes actually gain new powers - while Stein had seemingly gained three. His use of shields and healing, as well as his natural invulnerability, made him appear cocky. He no longer fought battles - or allowed them to be fought. The Undying no longer took the gruesome damage that gave him the name.

Stein's new hero name came from his enemies. He did not race around the battle field and strike devestating blows, but instead stayed in one place and let his opponents do the racing and striking - knowing they would have little effect. His battle style was like a turtle. He became the Turtle.

The crowd backing turned the derogratory name into an endearing Hero name by adding "Guard." It fully suited him. Since revealing his Shielding power, he held the record low of collateral damage a Demon or Dragon disaster level.

He has been a hero for some time now. Twenty six years old and his shields have only become larger, his healing has only become faster and his body has only become harder. He remains at the top of A-class. It has become almost a test to see who is worthy for S-class to try and make the Turtle Guard bleed - just a drop will do. He does not fight back, but with his defensive prowess, he does not need to to make a challenging Hero fail the test.

Respected by the powerful, resented by the arrogant, Stein knows both sides of the spectrum to their extremes. The Turtle Guard became a widespread phenomena. It was almost impossible not to let that sort of attention go to your head...

And then it was gone. At the height of his career Stein is plucked from his comfortable lifestyle and thrown into a whole new world. His powers were dialed back years and he was once again faced with the challenge of climbing the ranks - and wiggling his way into the hearts of the people.

Or... just be a lazy, normal guy once again. The privacy is kinda nice...

Uhm... your starting moves.... not that I'm not appreciating the Butt Status, but is that supposed to be some sort of Transformation?

(By the way, love OPM, super hype for this character!)
