Serial Martyr
#1
Character name: The Serial Martyr

Character source: Original

Character history: The Serial Martyr has spent the vast majority of his existence impaled on an iron spike in a pocket dimension resembling a salt flat. Occasionally, holes to other dimensions would open near him, and he would be able to converse with the people there, or try to help them in some way. Sometimes he would provide vital advice to heroes who had lost their way, other times he would simply exchange dry jokes with a disinterested passerby. Ultimately, it was all rather discouraging. Suddenly, one day, rather than things moving around him, he moved! He was brought before Omni, and then sent to the Nexus.

Physical Description: A very, very pale man with shaggy black hair and dark circles under his eyes. He's wearing a dark long sleeve shirt and slacks, both of them quite tattered. The most immediately notable trait is the large iron rod stuck through his chest, about eight feet long. The end past his back comes to a sharp point, whereas the end in front of him looks to have been broken off. The front end of the rod is constantly scraping against the ground as he walks around, and he seems to be leaning on it. There are several holes through his clothing of roughly the same diameter as the rod. He is always bearing a peculiar expression, perhaps comparable to the face of someone who has just seen something funny, but is far, far too tired to laugh about it at all.

DEF: 5
SPD: 0

Starting Proficiencies:
Ranged Proficiency (1000 OM)
Ranged Materialize Proficiency (600 OM)

Starting Powers:

Starting Moves:
Rising Spine (requires Ranged Proficiency, Ranged Materialize Proficiency) - 300 OM
SM rests the broken end of his pole on the ground, and must stay in that spot for the duration of the attack. Around six seconds later, a similar spike emerges from the ground somewhere in his vicinity, at any angle. The end of the spike is not sharp, but it rises with enough speed to be quite painful. The spike will retract after a few seconds. After the spike has retracted, a new one can be used in only three seconds so long as it is within a meter of the previous one and he has not moved.
Let-Down - 300 OM
The pole through SM's chest is immediately pulled to the ground, forcing him to lie flat. This moves him far faster than would normally be possible, allowing him to easily duck under many attacks. However, this leaves him laying face down on the ground, and he can't move until the pole comes back up through his body a minimum of six seconds later.

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

Everything seems okay. But we need to chat about your moves.

Rising Spine - This seems neat and also balanced for my tastes.

Let-Down - At first I didn't think you'd actually need a move for this, but then I reckon it's okay as this is probably your surrogate for a shield-type maneuver, y'know? Also it's pretty neat (your character is really interesting in general). Just be aware that this won't help you dodge Super Moves. You would need a Super Move version to use this as a means to try and evade Super Moves.

Just so you're aware, six seconds might not seem like much on paper, but in reality, I feel like it's kind of an eternity (especially in a conflict). I appreciate the emphasis you have placed on properly balancing your moves, but I feel that you could reduce the times on both of them to four seconds, if you so desire.

Post the following into a thread in the Roster forum with your character's name as the topic name. You are all set. Welcome to the Omniverse, and I look forward to reading your introduction.
