Representing Unspent OM In Character?
#1
Basically what I'd like to know is: can I write Hijiri as being extremely rich, or will I be penalised or forced to edit my posts if I do?

My reasoning is that a Base costs 1k OM, and I currently have 8k unspent. If we assume that a Base is the same price as a normal house (even though many are considerably larger than that) then that'd mean they should probably cost at least £/$/€100k ... which means Hijiri isn't far off being a millionaire.

Also, we're allowed to summon Secondaries and vehicles for free, so presumably all Primes are allowed to be represented as having a fair bit of wealth IC.

On the other hand... a normal gun costs 300 OM, which kinda screws over my theory, since guns obviously don't cost £3k each...

So... can I do this?
It'll not give him any OOC benefits, but it will let me justify IC buying a sweet Base when I eventually get around to it, as well as a whole bunch of Forces when they're released...

Considering you can summon a literal mountain of gold coins for no OM cost, i don't see why not. I just don't expect anyone to really be dazzled by a Prime flashing around what any Prime could do.

I always took the stance that OM is, more or less, potential. When you have more unspent, your potential is higher. When you spend it, you convert your potential into actual items or abilities.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking... the only thing is, because I haven't been spending it (until today, anyway), that means his potential wealth hasn't been decreasing... which hasn't been an issue so far, since I haven't really made him do anything yet that'd be at all extravagant... but if I start acting like he has all the money in the world and for the most part only spend it on things that OOC have no actual OM cost, it might seem kinda over-the-top IC, since he'll still have tons of OM left after buying, like, a whole bunch of cars, or something...

Also, side-question; Primes aren't all that common, are they?
I got the impression from the restrictions on making NPC Primes that they were supposed to be pretty rare compared to Secondaries, who seem to be all over the place.

If that is the case then would it be at all realistic to say that there are some Secondaries who have never actually met a Prime?
... And as such would totally be impressed by someone who could summon stuff, like any other Prime...

Rare? Between site NPCs, personal NPCs, and PCs, there's at least a hundred Primes running around. I doubt there's any Secondaries who haven't, at least, heard of Primes. I'd wager most have seen, at minimum, one or two in passing.

You're welcome to live the high-life, and have people impressed by it. It's your story. Just be aware that "wealth" isn't really a tangible concept here. A Secondary might have a mansion, servants, cars, etc. but wouldn't actually have any OM, whereas a Prime with nothing but the shirt on his/her back might have a large store of OM they haven't used.

A hundred...? Wow, that's even less than I thought.  :woah:
Coruscant alone surely must have millions of Secondaries. Like, I dunno how big a Verse is, but the population of most cities is around 500k... and for a really big one like London or New York it's above 8 million... and given that Coruscant has multiple tiers, each of which is basically city-sized (I think?) then it'd probably have even more than that, right?

I wouldn't go so far as to make them not have heard of Primes, though... I mean, maybe some old hermits in the Dunes who've lived under rocks their entire lives could have somehow avoided knowing what Primes were, I guess... but Hijiri's in Coruscant, so he won't be meeting anyone quite that out of the loop.
