Gunther's forced retirement and replacement
#1
So I mentioned when I created Gunther that he was a DC from the One Punch universe created a little over a year ago with friends on a private site... so for a while I've been playing him in two locations, with Omniverse Gunther being a sort of "rehash" of the other version... Alas, my friends are a bit irked about this version, since I wrote them out of his backstory (they don't do forum roleplay) but kept their influence in regards to moves and personality.

I've been given the ultimatum to either switch here, or switch there... Though I have a lot of plans for him here (with a 4k word post in google doc) he has not made much progress here, unlike the eighteen month voyage of grit and glory he's gone through in the One Punch roleplay. Not to mention I'd lose Veteran Status, which means I'd have to wait till any new character has been active six months to reach a second tier of power (AKA B class) and a year to reach A class.

On that note, I'll be retiring Stein rather abruptly. I still have four weeks till I can pick a new PC, so I thought I'd see if you guys could help me come up with an idea for a good replacement. I might still go for Avengers, though it really depends on who I end up going with.

Edit: I'm considering donating to get the cooldown lessened, considering Christmas Bonus is rolling around.

Kinda random thing for your friends to be upset about, but w/e I guess...
I'll be sad to see Gunther go, though given how long it's been since you posted for him, I kinda figured this might happen at some point.

I dunno what I'd suggest for a replacement, though I will say that it's probably better to pick (or 'create', in the case of OCs) someone whose abilities slot neatly into the Omniverse's system, rather than being something all unique and different... I know I had a bit of a hassle getting a couple moves approved for Hijiri when I first joined, and I remember you had some trouble with some of Gunther's stuff as well.
If you have any doubts about what you can do and would like to do, it might be best to run those ideas past some other people first so you don't end up frustrated.

That's about all I can think of right now... I'm not the best at giving advice.

There's sixteen people in the group. My closer friends aren't too pissed about it, but the higher ups seem to have a stick up their ass... something about using a group idea on another RP site... blah. I'm still quite a bit irked...

But since I have to switch up, I've been brainstorming on a few loosey goosey ideas...

Bleach based: Quincy or Fullbringer. Possibly both, since Ichigo is [insert spoiler here.]

Fable: Hero of Oakvale: This one is problomatic since the Hero did not speak much... and he was usually called things like Avatar or Chicken Chaser. Could be funny, could be hard to play.

Dirge of Cerberus (FFVII): Vincent Valentine would be pretty awesome, but the variations of his guns would mean a LOT of moves and it might end up being one of those things that gets not only costly, but convoluted and gamey... since... well... yea.

Danny Phantom: Downside is that he has a number of abilities that don't work well, and even nixing those, he has a LOT of costly powers just for his base ghost abilities. Not to mention, he'd prolly end up spending a lot of his time in the Astral Realm...

OC Thoughts:
Maybe a guy who's got nothing but Physical and Ranged Proficiencies and Stat Boosts? Ranged attack would be "Pocket o' Rocks" which is just a pocket full of pebbles he can throw. XD

At the risk of starting a rant about your friends, I'll steer clear of that subject entirely.

As for a new character, I'm far from the best to give advice, but don't ask yourself "Who would be a good fighter?" but "Who do I want to play?" I know it sounds cheesy, but I'm serious.

The Omniverse has the advantage that you are not restricted by any sort of limitations to what your character can have. You want a mage with zero TEC, a viking with twin lightsabers or a mole with Flight, you can do it and nobody will tell you otherwise. You can slap anything onto any character for whatever reason (or no reason at all), so honestly... don't think about moves too much. Focus on characters character that would be fun for you to play as in general (of course, a fun fighting style if you plan to fight is also useful in that regard).

I'd recommend making a list where you weigh the pros and cons of each pick, maybe even with points if you want to get mathematical about it :frog:

Do it Stein. We can be Wild Mage buddies! When Eb finally finishes the many things I have planned.

Just get 20 moves, and roll on a d20 to decide which to use when. Totally worth it. :frog:

Or, like, stick with Mercer and keep your focus on him until you decide something.

I plan for Mercer to do a lot of fuckery, meaning he might be in a lot of people's threads... and some people don't post for days at a time... I'd be bored to tears. XD

And I've thought about doing a mage, but instead of a dice roll he'd have 52 moves and I'd draw from a deck to see what he does. Card magic! Or maybe a Tarot Mage... Or a Mage who's spell is literally rolling dice or a combination of the above. Call him the Gambler Mage. XD

Now, 52 moves is... A lot of moves. 15,600 OM worth of moves, to be precise. (Assuming each is a single effect 300 OM move.) Tarot with just the Major Arcana at first though, that might be fun! And is only like, 6,600 OM worth of moves, so you could actually have enough OM on switch to start out strong on having most of them. Plus, since each Major Arcana already has a name and art, it would be WAY easier to get inspired by each one for a move. (Like, Sun could be a fireball! Or something.)

Then, as you progress, you could move onto the Minor Arcana, Swords/Coins/Rods/Cups, and just have each of those classified as a single move with varying effects based on the number of the card you pull. Like, 10 of Swords would be a big ol' strong and heavy slow sword, where 1 of Swords might be a really quick and nimble dagger version, or whatever.

Tarot is something I'm not as familiar with, sadly...

With a standard 54 card deck (including 2 jokers) I believe it would be less of a "one move per card" and more of a level of charge. 2-10 would be a charge for power situation, and J, Q, K would be a charge for a variant. A would be a relative Super Move. Example ideas:
Spades = Arrows! 2-10 is the number of arrows fired in succession. Straight up charging, 600 at worst.
Diamond = Sword! 2-3 is a dagger, 4-8 is a shortsword, 9-10 is a claymore. Same weapon, just slowly trading speed for power - I believe I can get this as a 600 price... at worst, 900.
Club = Shield? Debuff?
Hearts = Healing and Buff!
Jacks = Transformations - can easily come later on down the road though.

Per suit:
Super: 600 (Aces)
Charge: 600 (2-10)
Charge Variant: 600 (J, Q, K)
1800x4=7200.

This is a possibility, though I'm not too sure how it would play out. I could start out with literally everything needed and have no room to grow power wise. Story might be fun... have Fodder moves letting him manipulate probability in card games and dice rolls. XD

If you really wanted to do a Gambler Mage then another possible way to go about it might be instead of (or as well as) having a move for each individual card you could have his moves based on hands in Poker (or some other card game), e.g. Royal Straight Flush, Full House.
Then you could actually draw a hand of cards from a deck to see what you get to use.

The Gambler Mage is still a hypothetical thing. I feel like that would get pretty complex and might be difficult to actually play in battle for other people who didn't have a hand (poker joke) in building the character.
#11
But do you like the idea of playing such a character? I think this is getting more "omg look at this cool mechanics!!" than actually rooting for a character for who they are. Fighting with gimmicks may be fun, but you gotta enjoy the rp'ing part too
#12
That's the thing, the Gambler Mage seems more like straight combat mechanics, I don't really know how I would play the PC outside of a fight. Debating how it would work is fun, but beyond that I can't really think of a neat personality to go with it or a backstory to give a reason why.

The idea I'm tossing around now is something of a wanderer... Give 'em something like Suppression and one or two ranged moves, then do everything else in Stat Boosts and have him just wonder around, being all mysterious...

Funny part would be his ranged move is throwing pebbles at super high velocity. XD Pocket o' Pebble... One move be a single shot at high range high power, the other being throwing a bunch for an AoE. Might give him more powers that revolve around stealth and speed to just avoid fights altogether.

What would he do? Just wonder around, get to know the Omniverse, and collect knowledge. Maybe keep a journal of all the crazy things he's seen. Meet and interview various NPC's, get into trouble, get out of it again... His personality would be a free spirit, somewhere along the lines of True Neutral or Chaotic Neutral. Maybe have him go by many names, so he can infiltrate multiple factions, just for shits and giggles...
