Secondary Slang
#1
Sooo I was thinking about words and slang -how it creates a comaderie among people and cultures- and was curious, what do you have your secondaries or NPC's say that maybe your Primes don't?

Envy, powerless, and feeling like they are slaves to certain society's systems (Camelot farmers, fiends within the empire, soldiers of darkshire, outcasts of the endless dunes) can all make for some really cool ones. In my mind, I think of many avenues slang could go!

One point being, how do secondaries know when they look at a prime that they are? Radiance is usually how I imagine it, but certain secondaries could have some nasty remarks to feeling enslaved by primes. Slang can be as simple as a code word, or agreeable phrase, like in any other language, as well as an insult (in my mind I think of gangs and the great divider of sides) anyway, just curious for some good ones, as well as might come up with my own if I get the chance to ruminate on it.

-Side note what might Primes refer as secondaries to? (Slaves? Peasants? Scum?) thats not quite slang but it might start the juices flowing!

Thanks for sharing !

Secondaries :
- Blinks ("blink and they're gone")
- Citizens/Peasants (primes are like the knights and lords of the Omniverse)
- Baskets (secondaries serving as loot pinatas of OM for their prime)
- Incidentals (secondaries serve primarily to support the infrastructure of the verses)

Primes:
- Wrecking Crew [A group of Primes preparing for a fight, since such clashes tend to cause a lot of property damage]
- Goldens/Terrors [Primes that ally themselves strongly with Good/Evil respectively. The term is used derisively, since morality in the Omniverse is very complicated.]
-Specs [Short for spectacle, since Primes are summoned by Omni for his entertainment]

-Secca/s (Prime slang, short for Secondary, derogatory)
-Ol Dusty (Prime slang. Ol Dusty is a character in Camelot and Tangled Green folklore, a notoriously offensive interpretation of Secondaries: his special power was turning into dust at the slightest breeze and coming back, therefore becoming an incredibly dispensable character. To understand jow offensive it is, consider calling a Korean "Kim Jung Un" (who is a real person but you know the gist) or a black person "N-word Jim" and etc)

-Om-Nommers (Secondary slang for weak Primes or Secondaries who try to appeal to Prines, pretty much Dataverse-exclusive, derogatory - evokes imagery of Primes sucking Omni's nuts for favors)
-Masters (ironic Secondary slang for Primes)
-The Ones Upstairs (Secondary slang for benevolent Primes. Vaguely derogatory/disrespectful.)

Will think of more.

I burst out laughing at "The spoopy place"

On topic; In place of "Oh my god," I imagine Secondaries(and possibly some Primes) tend to substitute it with "Oh my Omni."

"Uh, where?" - Commonly used to refer to Rapture, a place that no one visits like ever. Where even is that, anyway?
"That one asshole with the islands" - Karl Jak
"Like, the devil or something. But worse." - Diablo
"Who the hell is that and what are they raving about?" - Approximate lamentation of Nexus Stormtroopers and Camelot scouts
"Holy shit, please put down your weapon, sir/madam/whatever you are" - Approximate remark of Nexus Stormtroopers and Camelot scouts
"You're under arrest/stop right there/auuighh!" - Approximate/Famous last words of the above.
"It's just a flesh wound" - At least ten primes, once in their life

Erika refers to secondaries as "fillers" because they fill up Omni's chest boards as pawns while primes are generally the rooks/knights. Amber is too kind of a person to label them as 'Secondary' so she refers to them as their race. And Dawn just knows that she's more powerful than secondaries.

I've had a lot of Secondaries adopt some Scottish slang and whatnot. Magus has spent most of his time in the Omniverse in Camelot, and specifically with the marginalized/poor/criminal element.

I've blended in some Dark Tower/Mejis-esque slang into their speech since it seems to work. I've also used a little Olde English tropey stuff but I try to keep it from feeling silly.

I don't think they 'know' a Prime when they see one (unless they are somehow gifted to be able to). But Primes tend to let someone know they're a Prime in pretty short order. I think Secondaries are acutely aware that they're mortals living amongst gods, and they're not super pumped about it. I think a lot of Secondary slang towards Primes would be fairly derogatory.

Iunno, I always figured the names Secondary and Prime were slang just on their own. S'not like Omni (the character) mentions it in the introduction ever.

I considered the same thing as Jade, and I always thought Secondary and Prime were the politically correct terms.

Puppets - Secondary slang for Secondaries who live primarily with Primes, derogatory
Meddlers - Prime slang for Secondaries who challenge Primes
Cammies - Soldiers, civilians or those otherwise affiliated with Camelot, synonymous with "Commies" for communists
Bad Town - Darkshire
Freak Show - Ambrosia, derogatory
Freakies - Ambrosians, derogatory
Living Room, Everyone's Living Room - Ambrosia, synonymous with "Big Apple" for New York
Storms, Stormies - Stormtroopers or those otherwise affiliated with Coruscant military
Tier-Ups - those on the higher tiers of Coruscant, derogatory
The City - Coruscant
The 90's - Ashen Steppes, contrary to popular belief, does not refer to time period, but rather the high temperature of the Steppes
The Snow - Frozen Fields
Dante, Dante Man - Karl Jak

And even though they're not recognized yet...
A-Team - Avengers, respectful AND derogatory, depending on tone
Black Blades, Blades - Ashen Blades, fearful and derogatory

I assume most Secondaries and Primes would probably call each other by name, if they know it. From the gangsters of Coruscant saying, "Fuck! It's Dredd!" to the farmers of Camelot cheering, "King Aragorn!" I figure whether you love them or hate them, you'd probably use their name more than any slang term.

Assuming you are at least neutral towards Primes or Secondaries, even if you didn't know them, you'd probably just call them that. "Another Prime is in town." or "The Secondary working the bar has a nice rack." Even then, you might just refer to them by gender or species instead, since it'd be a more specific means to identify them. "Robot" "Cat-Dude" "Lizard-Chick". These are probably more used than even Prime and Secondary.

That said, I'm sure their are "birthist" individuals out there, Prime and Secondary alike, who would use derogatory terms for the other side. So, I'll give some few ideas I had.

Secondary Slang
"Secs" (Short for Secondary, obviously)
"Peons" (Because some of the more... selfish Primes treat them as such)
"Imps" (Short for impotent, because they can't use Omnilium)
"You" (Because Secondaries aren't important enough to learn their names, or even to deride with an insult. They're literally just resources to some people, like iron ore.)

Prime Slang
"Dics" (Many Primes treat Secondaries poorly, so this is both to call them a dick and a dictator)
"Pees" (Short for Prime, but also because calling someone a Pee is hilarious)
"Sap" (For those Secondaries who see Primes, especially new Primes, as an easy source of labor)
"Him/Her/It" (For a somewhat different reason than "You" above. Primes frequently pass through areas without so much as noticing the locals. No need for slang when they ain't around enough to come up with something.)
PvP Flag: GREEN
I won't mind if you attack my character or base with little to no warning!
