The Composite Knight Rises
#1
The past few days had been rather uneventful. Ever since he had lost his home, it was like a gray cloud had been hanging over Matthew. Really nothing he had done had felt right to him ever since he had lost his home. What was a man, without a place to call home? Homeless. Yet he also felt out of sorts without the place. Of course, given the amount of effort he had spent in building the place, that was no surprise there. In truth he knew he needed a team. People he could rely on that could also have his back when the chips were down. What he needed was a family like the one he had known back home. Sadly that was not likely to happen because of several reasons. One of these was the most obvious. There was no way out of the Omniverse for Matthew, and thus no way to get anyone he could rely on to back him up really. His mansion was gone and there was nothing he could do about it sadly. All of the gadgets that he had developed, and every piece of equipment was lost to him.

In truth, Matthew Mcginnis was confused. What did he not have that was possessed by the others who had worn capes, or cowls, or fancy equipment of various varieties for themselves? It was a question that he honestly didn't at least at first know the answer to. And yet, the information came to him as he thought about it. Batman had Robin, and Bat Girl to back him up. Commissioner Gordon had also worked with the Batman for a time before Barbara had taken over the role of Commissioner in his time, and someone he didn't remember was Batman. Who was the Batman in his time period, and why could he not remember who he was? Matthew did not like this feeling of having something he wanted to know be inside his head, and yet beyond his memory at the same time. Why were his memories of his home foggy, like he couldn't remember a lot of things about the place? Was it the very Omniverse that caused such an effect?

If so, how did one cure it?  Like a swarm of angry jelly fish, the questions buzzed around in his head,  new ones surging in as well. Banishing the questions despite the aggravation not knowing would no doubt cause him, Matthew decided to focus on what he needed to do. Logically the first choice of what he needed to do was to prepare himself for the future. Since he was currently homeless - much to his irritation, acquiring a new home for himself was a wise idea to say the least. Of course in doing so he was going to need to rebuild his supply of gadgets. Batarangs, Bo-Staffs, and many other tools were going to need to be created by him. What this meant was that he was going to have to go to the library on Tier One, and research all of the equipment he was going to make. Sadly he had no other choice in the matter. Gear was needed if one was to be a superhero, and didn't possess Super Strength, Flight, Heat Vision or really any powers at their disposal.

And unfortunately, Matthew didn't have any abilities that he knew of here in the Omniverse. At present he possessed no amount of super speed, no enhanced agility, no telekinesis, no flight, no energy constructs, or other powers that he was aware of. While he had been trained in the past by someone he couldn't remember fully to do a job that he didn't remember, Matthew knew he had a lot to learn about this place. It was a good thing he had managed to survive the attack on his home. Sure it had set him back quite a lot, but he had survived. And when you survived something like that, there was nothing to do but move forward.

Contemplating what would be the course of action that was best, Matthew made his way to the library. There were many things he had to do, but the first things were first. Getting the information needed to recreate the equipment he had in the past was essential. It was a sad truth but one that he had to abide by, namely that he needed to learn more about this place. Of course the books were likely to be in languages other than his own, which was a problem for the young Mcginnis. Matthew was not particularly fluent in other languages, when it came to writing them down, an area of training he had wished he had taken more time on.
