Location/Role:
Wartortle is the leader of the guerrilla extremist organization, the Liberation Front. They have cells functioning in most verses, with more of a presence in cities and large towns. Wartortle himself can be found rarely, as he is often in the field, although someone who looks hard enough could find emissaries of the Liberation Front. Those who prove their worth to this radical, anarchist group may get to meet the leader who holds it all together.
Story:
Squirtle, raised from the dead, found himself embroiled in a war between rival factions of alchemists—the Atomic War. During the conflict, he ‘befriended’ a mage by the name of ‘Red Mage.’ He also adopted many traits that would become his trademarks—dual M16s, a cigar, and a genius tactical knowledge. The turtle wound up murdering the leaders of the rebel alchemists with the help of a naked Red Mage atop of giant, murderous reptile.
With the country back to peace, Squirtle returned southward, to Vermillion City. It was there that he set about his plan to emancipate his Pokémon brethren from their slavery at the hands of human beings. His explosive strikes against local law enforcement and Pokémon Centers brought him dozens of followers. It also brought him into a confrontation with Lieutenant Surge during a high-profile raid. Squirtle defeated Surge’s Raichu, and in the aftermath of the successful attack, he evolved in Wartortle.
Over the span of the next few weeks, Wartortle and the growing legions of the Pokémon Liberation Front launched several addition attacks that culminated in the destruction of the government center followed a city-wide raid. Wartortle fought Lieutenant Surge and killed the soldier while Kadabra and Machamp fought in the streets. In the end, the Pokémon Liberation Front captured the city, and it became the center of an expanding Pokémon state over the next few years.
It was then that Omni pulled Wartortle into the Omniverse, a confusing and startling realm of mysteries and wonders that the Pokémon hadn’t experienced in his native universe. This was over five years before the Scramble, an event marked by the largest influx of Primes in recent history. Without his support network of loyal followers, Wartortle was left to wander the verses. His prejudices and violent racism toward mankind often put him at odds with both the Empire and the Kingdom, who he simply saw as more institutions of suffering and slavery ruled by humans.
Wartortle eventually found his way to Cinnibar Island’s haven for refugees, but even here, amongst many of his own people, he was disgusted. Under the leadership of Mewtwo, his people seemed content to live in the middle of nowhere as they scrounged for scraps from more dominant powers. Through guile and his own innate charisma, Wartortle forged a new following that would eventually lead to a physical altercation between Mewtwo and himself that would end in a draw. The two Pokémon went their separate ways.
From a mobile base in the Vastly Deep, Wartortle forged a new Liberation Front that contained Pokémon, robots, monsters, and all sorts of the bizarre life that populated the verses (your garden variety humans are the only individuals unwelcome in the Liberation Front, especially if they are affiliated with the two main verses). They Liberation Front has cells operating in all of the verses, where they routinely perform small-scale operations against the Empire, the Kingdom, and their various affiliated powers. Wartortle himself, although he has a love of power, commonly performs front-line operations.
The Liberation Front, while a perpetual nuisance for the large powers, often ranks very low on their list of priorities. Wartortle, aware of this, is always planning larger and more dangerous operations, and despite the rather secretive nature of the organization, he (usually through representatives) is always looking to recruit new agents to help promote his anti-establishment agendas.
