The first thing I heard was running water. My eyes were not ready to open, they were full of crud and gunk, so my mind made a mental list of guesses of where the sound originates. It could be Toriel filling a pot full of water, it could be Papyrus in the bathroom using a water bottle to pretend to pee again, or possibly Sans built a water fountain in my room. But when I finally opened my eyes, I found I was way off. No, it was impossible for me to guess this.
What I saw was a world of white. The color was clearly not my ceiling, the sky was just white. I thought it was overcast at first, but clearly it’s not, it wasn’t grey enough. The muscles in my limbs and back finally woke and I pushed myself into sitting straight up. My head whirred as the blood came rushing into the rest of my body. My eyes, which had long enough time to wake up, took a second to come into focus.
I was definitely near a fountain, right next to it in fact. It was huge and circular in shape. Lining the middle island were a bunch of Froggits spitting a steady stream into the main pond. In the middle stood the statue of mom; Toriel. She looked to be made of marble, and she looked just as the moment I first met her.
Once again, I half suspected this to be Sans’ doing, but it was clear this is not the same world I came from. Even that almighty skeleton couldn’t devise something like this. I tried to remember if Alphys had sent me to another dimension or something, but all I could remember was going to bed and taking a nap as Toriel started making a pie.
Oh no, Toriel. She must be worried sick about me! I could see her running around, screaming to all the monsters, arranging a search party. I really hope she’s okay.
Now however, was not the time to concern myself of such things.
I thought hard, about the blank sky, about my rude awakening, about the fountain…
“The fountain!” I yelled aloud as it hit me.
The nature of the thing was no coincidence, it was placed here for me. It was placed to make me remember my first hours in the underground. Whoever, whatever, took me here, clearly wanted me to draw parallels.
‘Maybe I’m here to do something.’ I thought to myself.
A slowly stammered onto my feet. I hadn’t noticed how hard the ground was. Maybe the trip dulled my senses as well. I saw that the ground was all white and featureless as the skyl. Whatever this place was, it was strange, not that I was a stranger to that sort of thing.
I scanned around, I could see strange things in the distance, like gateways or something like that. Other than those, I could see nothing into forever.
“Do I just pick a way at random?” I said puzzled. I wasn’t sure if there was a direction was a meant to go. Say what you will about the Underground, it was at least straightforward.
But as if to answer my question, I felt a soft red glow encompass my body. I look down, and a red heart shape was on my chest, illuminating me,
My soul!
I hold it aloft in my hand, and I notice that the light was slowly fading in and out. I hold it close to my face, but the flashing ceased and the soul became a duller light. I stretch out my arm again and the light continued slowly flashing.
I took a moment to test it. I turned my body around to many direction, finding I didn’t get a single flash, but aiming it the direction I started…
“Well, I guess that’s the direction I need to go!” I said, I honestly I was choosing not to question it. I stepped forward, making the long walk to… Wherever it was I was going.
