Day 10, Week 1 - The Step One before the Step One
#21
Smoke rose from the sleeves of his coat; his hands clamped tightly around his revolver. He peered down at the knife held to his throat, shivering as the cold metal tickled his neck. He managed to keep his other self at bay for a few moments as the angel talked, noticing her concern for the kid. Evidently, his earlier prediction was correct. Something, maybe not his friend Seraph, but something, had damaged him on an emotional and mental level. He had to wonder if Lynch's only bastion of sanity remaining was the "Leah" threatening him. If that was the case, SPB had to applaud her. Most exorcisms tend to end badly.

His other half, however, wasn't paying any attention to that, his only concern being the weapon held up to his neck, ready to slice it if necessary. It took every ounce of his self-control to try not to pound the guardian to a pulp, his eyes changing from white to yellow at a rapid rate. They stared at each other, daring the other to give them an excuse to kill them.

Finally, after what felt like hours, the divine being turned away, sliding her knife into the seat of her pants. The black gas quickly dissipated, the gunsmith taking a deep breath before his eyes reverted to a glowing yellow. He moved his free hand to his neck, rubbing it as if to check to see if it was still there. As the winged woman walked over towards the boy, he managed to spit out a well-mannered reply without interruption.

"I ensure you, o heavenly protector, there is a minuscule chance of harm where his destination lies."
He said, smiling behind his crimson scarf, "He is in good hands."

The angel did not appear to react to his praise, far more focused on getting her ward out of there and out of the man's grasp. He intentionally chose to ignore her, looking towards the fire as they left the cave. His logical half did not wish to lose his temper so soon after their disastrous attempt at diplomacy. A fault they were going to have to remedy if they ever hoped to succeed.

"We're going to have to talk about this sooner or later, o virescent one." He said, his volume low so no one could hear.

"There is nothing to talk about,"
He replied to himself, his tone growing stern as his eyes glowed white.

Shrugging, he shook his head, saying "So be it." in an emotionless manner.
