Colosseum - Round 1, Group A - Dawnika Snow vs Black Mage
#1
Dawnika Snow stood before the giant, regal Kingdom flag. Far on the other side of the battlefield was Black Mage, who stood silent and motionless beneath the colors of the Deserters.

Up above them, a packed crowd cheered, waiting for the signal that would commence the 'festivities.'

Someone gestured for silence, and just like that, there wasn't a sound in the building as Victor von Magnus walked onto the small platform near the center of the massive structure. With a smile, he picked up the padded hammer and smashed it into the gong, signalling the fights to commence.

Dawnika had entered the field. She summoned her sword, which she had modified to depict the Camelot flag, instead of the Akame flag, on it's hilt. The weapons on the back wall behind her, made her smile. "Good thing I learned how to use a variety of weapons. Before the gong sounded, she grabbed a bow and some arrows, slinging them over her shoulder. She also grabbed another sword, in case she dropped hers or used it some other way. Her first impression of Black Mage was his appearance, or course. Obviously he was a wizard and would use magic from a range. She needed to close the gap quickly, when this started.

The gong sounded for them begin and the soldier took off. "You deserters will pay for your insolence." Ice spikes and fire balls flew past her face, as she dodged the oncoming projectiles. It was easy to dodge at this range, but now she had to get across the center trench without being hit. The bow was her perfect ticket. She launched a few arrows at the mage, who had to dodge them, giving her time to jump across the trench safely. Coming up a little short she dug her sword into the edge of the other side and pulled herself up. The ice and fire came flying back again, along with some lightning. At this range, she would have to use burst movements between the rock walls set up around the arena.

About thirty feet away now, Dawnika pulled the bow on her opponent and launched more arrows as she closed in on him. Her shots were off but enough to get him to dodge them, allowing her to get close enough with her sword to start slashing. She pulled her sword on him lashing out him with slashes from every direction. "You are no match for the Kings army, rebel." Her slashes were to fast for him, it landed him with cuts on his arms. Finally, he was able to use his aero attack to send her skidding back on her feet, which she quickly returned with her charge.

With the ringing of a gong the battles begun and the Black Mage found himself hurling fireballs and launching daggers of ice at his foe, a young woman whose size belied her ferocity. Her opening movement was a quick dash towards the Black Mage, cutting from one side to another as he slung his spells but still relentlessly charging forward. As she came forward the girl hastily pulled out the colosseum bow and fired a volley of arrows. Despite her quick feet the arrows he could see the arrows were well placed, but their speed suffered enough that he had ample time to dodge, the Black Mage rushing to one of the nearby stone barricades.

The Black Mage took a deep breath behind the cover of stone but knew it would not last long. The girl was determined to make the fight a close one, and he had done little to halt her advance. Looking over his cover for a moment he spotted her dash from one barricade to another, well past the midway-trench. She was getting far too close, and the Warrior of Light needed to at least slow her down. Pulling out of the cover the Black Mage spoke his fire chant before lobbing more fireballs at the girl, attempting to dictate a slower pace to her dashes. Success was fleeting as soon she was perhaps ten meters away and firing another volley of arrows. Another dodge had to be made but rather than go towards his barricade the Black Mage backpedaled, creating a bit more distance between the two of them.

It made little difference however, as the the swordsgirl was on him in seconds, making rapid slashes in all directions. Barely able to follow the martial motions of the young girl the Black Mage counted himself lucky he came out with only a few slices on his arms, but the fact of the matter still stood. The girl had come entirely too close to him.

"Wind, flowing, never tame, throw my foe and give him pain. Aero!" The Warrior of Light spoke as his hands came together for a clap, a cyclone escaping his fingertips and pushing the barefoot swordsgirl, causing her to skid backwards before she came forward to press the attack once again. Rather than wait for the girl to charge however the Black Mage had rushed to follow her skid, waiting a split second for her foot to leave the ground before he unleashed another gust of wind, throttling the now off-balance swordsgirl into the stone barricade he'd used as cover just moments ago.

The young girl was quick to shake off the shock of his advance and pain of being thrown at a stone wall, but the Black Mage had already started backpedaling, not wanting to keep close longer than needed. His steps weren't the quickest but his stance was strong and his mouth was ever moving, completing the chant necessary for his Bolt spell on the move. As the swordswoman would charge she'd find a straight path would be a quick way to meet a lightning bolt's embrace. If he could land a good bolt or two perhaps this would be over before the cuts on his arm gave him too much trouble.

Being knocked against a wall was nothing new to Dawnika, she kept on the move, taking deep breaths as she ran. I cannot let him keep a distance. The more distance between me and him is a bigger advantage for him. She took shelter behind another of the rocks to formulate a plan. Okay, range is his advantage. The best way for a predator to catch pray is to lure the pray into a corner. If I can get his back against the wall, he'll be mine.

The wizard was lobbing magical attacks on both sides of the rock. Dawnika needed to get through them, her best option being to climb over the rock. She pulled herself up and stood tall. "In the name of King Aragon, I will destroy you!" A lightning bolt suprised her, making a mark across her cheek. "Damn you!" She forced herself off the rock, using it as a kick start to get a running start. Dodging more fire, ice and lightning, she got in close enough. About to use his aero again, which Dawnika knew by the chants he kept repeating, she quickly pulled her bow and launched an arrow at him, forcing him to stop and dodge: she was in. She took both her swords in each hands and let out a flurry of stikes.

The mage's back hit the invisible barrier stopping him short and Dawnika started landing attacks on him. Shoulder, arm, one on the chest. Both the swords were moving to fast to dodge completely. If the mage did not find a way out of this soon, the end of this fight will be imminent.

Drawing closer and closer to the him the swordsgirl pushed forward, always a step quicker than his ice or fire. A simple chant enticed a change-up, allowing the Black Mage to fire a bolt of lightning that would hopefully hit it's mark. Though the power of the bolt spell was quite intense the swords girl proved too elusive to take the direct force of it's blast, only suffering a small burn across her cheek. Angered by the pain of the display the swordsgirl accelerated her pace, pushing herself towards the Black Mage despite the dangers it posed, and came out without another scratch. Silently the Black Mage wondered to himself what magic he would have to learn to mimic such skill and alacrity, but such thoughts were wasted in the heat of the moment.

In the time The Black Mage had taken to summon her thoughts Dawnika was upon him, and the quickness of her stride was soon matched by the vigor of her blade. Forward, across, and around they went, carving bit by bit out of Warrior of Light. It was impossible for him to tell the Black Mage could have sworn the crowd cheered as the ground beneath them was stained a scarlet hue, but he would have sworn they rejoiced in his pain. Quick punches found their midst in the array of slashes as the Black Mage attempted to chant a spell, leading him no way out of the fray.

Needing to find a way out the Black Mage let down a heavy stomp of his left foot onto the swordsgirl's right foot, giving him just enough time to utter the incantation for "Aero", putting a gust of wind forward to launch the swordsgirl away. With the Black Mage's foot still stuck on hers however she didn't skid back or get thrown in the air, but rather found her body collapsing to the ground. Following her momentum the Black Mage led with his left forearm, pushing it over the swordsgirls throat as he fell atop her. Though he was the not the beefiest of the Warriors of Light by any stretch the move was not intended to be final, but rather a delaying tactic for his next attack.

"Water chilled, sharpened, strong. Ice!" He chanted as he thrust his right palm over her stomach. This fight would be over soon, one way or another.

The wizards foot met hers with enough force to make her cringe. Before she had time to react, he had already forced her back to the blood-stained ground. Her swords skided away from her hands upon impact. The Warrior of Light's forearm met her forearms: she was unable to retaliate but had enough time to react to his attempt on her throat. Hearing him chant again to release the ice, she thought quickly. He was too heavy to throw off, so there was only one thing she could do. Just before the mage was able to use his Iice, Dawnika threw her knee up and hit him with a low blow to the groin. This however did not stop his attack, for the ice met her side, grazing it good.

The Warrior of Light was left in shock from her strike that he released some of the force on her forearms, this gave her what she needed to throw him off her. Dawnika grabbed him by the wrist and threw him to the side standing up. The first thing she did was regain her swords. The mage had time to recover from her low blow, however, and was already trying to put some distance between them. As soon as Dawnika regained her sword, Kagetsume, leaving the colosseum provied one begind she used three burst movements in full motion to get close quickly. Within reach of the mage now, she swept her leg under his with a spin. He was suspended in the air for a second, letting her follow up with a punch to his chest that sent him flying back a couple meters. "You rebel scum cannot win against the king's army. You are clearly out matched." She rose her blade and approached him once again, as if she was ready to end this.

Right in the arcane focus.

To say that was unpleasant would be an understatement. Pain spiked as his body almost flailed in reaction. His attempted grip was weaken, even thrown, as the aim of his frozen dagger was slide to the side. If he was Thief he would have broken into a roll and came out really graceful like, but he was the Black Mage. He ate the dirt, but pushed upwards to get into a stand as the swordsgirl stood in kind. Knowing he couldn't focus well enough to get off a spell with the pain he tried to backpedal and gain some distance between him and swordsgirl, but only managed a slow and awkward waddle. The Black Mage attempted not to look out at the crowd or hear their voices, but he was certain that they were probably laughing at him. Here he was trying to gain some strength and powerful allies, but barely able to walk straight after a swift kick by a teenage girl. She was a prime sure, but Black Mage hadn't been able to separate the distinction yet.

The girl took but a moment to pick up her steel before charging again, and the Warrior of Light realized he had not time for internal self-deprecation. She accelerate at him at twice her normal speed in three one-second intervals, almost as if her motions were guided by some sort of mechanical ruleset, and in a matter of five seconds she was at swinging length again. Her body crouched as she swept her leg around, aiming for a trip, but the Black Mage saw it and responded with a quick jump. A mere feint the swordsgirl followed with a swift punch to his gut, knocking him backward as she shouted her crowd-pleasing propaganda once again.

"Wind, flowing, never tame. Throw my foe and give him pain. Aero! The Black Mage managed a weak chant as he put his hands together in mid-air. Rather than Dawnika however the Black Mage pointed his gust of wind at the ground, letting the recoil batter him a bit but launch him up into the air, and away from the swordsgirl's steps. Or at least that was the plan in theory. A running leap proved the swordsgirl to be quite the acrobat, launching up before he had time to fire a spell below. The swordsgirl took her blade and swung it over her head, bringing it downwards for a gravity aided strike that slammed inches into the Black Mage's shoulder. Crying out in pain he managed to let out another Aero spell, this time aimed at the swordsgirl and upward. With no footing to protect he she launched into the sky, her hand loosing grip of her blade as the Black Mage plummeted to the earth. Dawnika Snow made a thump as she hit the top of the barrier, then likewise began to fall to the ground. With a loud thump the Black Mage hit the hard rock floor of the colosseum, where he was joined in a moment by a louder thump as the swordsgirl impacted the rough stone. The crowd cheered as Baron Victor Von Magnus waited for one of the two contestants to rise.

But would the Warrior of Light be able stand first and claim victory, or would it be the the demoness?

It was a struggle to rise. He could feel the bruises in his back from slamming on the stone floor of the arena protesting as he put his palms to the ground and pushed upwards. Looking over at the swords girl he could see her lying on the ground, still as a resting gargoyle. He walked, no, staggered towards her as he spoke. "Air that strikes quick as a blade-" He waited before finishing the incantation, letting himself get closer and closer to the girl. It wasn't long before he was only a meter away, and she hadn't moved an bit. He'd half expected her to jump and claw at him, but she never did. Letting himself breath as the crackle of lightning dissipated in his fingertips, he knew that the battle was won. There was an ever-so-slight wax and wane to her chest that told the Black Mage she was still breathing, still alive. That was good. He'd come to strengthen his mettle, meet potential allies, not slaughter needlessly. He'd kept control, as he would for the rest of the tournament, he hoped.

Though his body still protested the Black Mage wiggled his arms and shoulders about for a moment to get a good stretch before squatting down and laying his arms under the swordsgirl. Powering his body and hers upwards he lifted her off the ground before turning and heading towards the rim of the arena. Some booed his lack of a killing blow, others put out a small, almost gentlemanly clap. One of the colosseum overseers molded a doorway into the barrier, allowing him to leave.

"We can carry her from here Mr. Mage." The soldier spoke.

"Thank you, but if I may I'd like to carry her myself." He said, and the soldier let out a small grin.

"I respect what you want to do, but I must insist that we carry her. Your next match is in two hours, you'll need all your strength for the wizard's duel." He said, and the Black Mage looked at him curiously.

"You know who I am to fight next?" The Black Mage asked, meeting a nod from the soldier.

"By the looks of it it'll be that one." The soldier said and pointed to a long blue-haired man who appeared to be talking to a lighter-blue haired boy. Between the barriers of seemingly infinite magic along with the echoing raucous of the crowd it was impossible to determine what they were saying, but was obvious that boy was done and man still had another gear to go. Holding a palm towards the boy he unleashed an orb of dark magic that slung it's way clean through the boy's head. The crowd roared as the Black Mage flinched, and the soldier let out a heavy sigh.

"I wish you luck. Follow me to the infirmary." He said as he took Dawnika Snow off the Black Mage's hand's with no protest. Following the soldier to the infirmary the Black Mage began to think of what he'd do next round against The Magus.
