We have said it before, the Omniverse is a family-run farm. We nurture the wee ones in the hopes that one day, those of you with enough experience and extra time on your hands, who're still around, can give back to help those new nooblings with their joining forms and move approvals.
With the shift to Departments, staff work is a little more localized. By their nature, some Departments will need more hands than others, and that might ebb and flow will change as time goes on and we host more events and launch more big scale 'stuff'.
Unlike the last 'staffing help call' thread, this will be more specific, and I'll post openings as we see them. If there is a posting you are interested in, all you have to do is write up why you think you'd be a good candidate and email that particular Department Lead (cc me, Alex).
In case you're not comfortable with the current 'openings,' I want to include this well-made message by Dane from the last thread. He included a lot of great ways that members can help out.
There are plenty of ways to help the site without being a staffer! Both you, Warren, and anyone else reading.
Firstly, Monthly Voting. This one is the easiest to do, and you get OM out of it. With just a few extra clicks a day, you can help the site grow.
Secondly, Quick Questions. Lots of people have questions they ask, but not every one needs to be answered by staff. I'm sure you've even asked some yourself. So, if someone asks a question you know the answer to, why not take a moment to help them out? It's a simple action, but by far one of the easiest things a long-term member can help with.
Thirdly, feedback. Every so often we have a Book Club thread where you can review and comment on another members stories to offer useful feedback. What did you like? What did you dislike? Did you think it was good? Are there ways you think they can improve? This doesn't need to be super professional, just a string of thoughts is fine. What really matters is that you took the time to read their thread, and put in an effort to compose a response. You also get OM as a reward for doing so - if you needed an incentive.
Book Club isn't the only opportunity to do things like that. Sometimes other members might make a thread asking for feedback on their work. If you happened to have read some of their stuff already, or feel like taking the time to, actions like that can be very useful to them even if you can't offer anything more than "I really liked this post". While stuff like this won't directly help any staffer load, when people do this it drastically improves the community. For example, if you've read some of my writing, and have feedback or comments, you could take the time to say something in Dabony's Q&A/C&C Thread (shameless self-plug, I know).
Alternatively, there's also the Move Creation Workshop. It was designed as a place for members to help iron out moves before sending them to move approval. So, yes, I (Dane) might be a staffer now, but I used to help often before I got my fancy blue name (sometimes with my Ebony account instead). If you see a move there and think you can help someone with it, why not take the time to do so? Even if it's just something basic like asking them to say how fast their fireball travels. When I started out, I used to just go through the move checklists from the rules for everything rather than commenting much on balance. See Move Requirements: (<--Link)
And Writing Moves: (<--Link to checklist)
Lastly, you can also offer to judge fights. Only high profile PvP events require an official judge. Your beef with someone can be judged by any member, unless you and your enemy can't agree on a judge. Sometimes, there'll be a fight topic in the discussion forum where the fighters need someone to judge. Such as Viola vs Pennywise OOC, where my character Viola fought Jade's Pennywise. This has already taken place (Yuuka judged it), but it might serve as an example of what sort of threads you'd be looking for. You may find that some people deny your offers to judge their fights. This isn't because they hate you or anything. It's because they'd prefer a more experienced judge to decide who won. Either they want feedback they don't think you can provide, or they would prefer a judge they know more about. If you keep offering, and genuinely think you're able to make a good ruling, someone will accept. You don't need to do a lot of fights yourself to be good at this, but I'd advise you read some first if you haven't already. All you need to do when judging a fight is wait until it's finished, read it, decide who you think won (based on what happened and how well people wrote), then decide your winner and write a brief explanation.
These were the main things I can think of off the top of my head. But, if you want to help out, there are always ways to do so. There might not be anything in the MCW or in QQ that you can answer right now, but there's bound to be things that pop up. If you don't think you're up to the task for answering questions all the time or helping with moves, even actions such as reading others threads and engaging with the community can make the Omniverse a better place. Regardless of how you help out, if you keep up with it, you will get noticed.
Edit: Besides assigned threads you can help in, if you think of another way that you can help people, like Jeffs Roster Advice thread, why not act on it? If you're unsure what you'd want to do is "okay", then feel free to shoot me a PM.
Moves Team (1)-> If you think you understand the Moves system enough to become a mentee under Dane and Daniel, you should compose a private message explaining your strengths in that regard and email it to Dane, Daniel, and Alex
