Aeris
#1
Character name: Aeris

Character source: Original, contains elements from Runescape (MMORPG by Jagex) and Planetside 2 (MMOFPS by Sony/Daybreak)

Character history: You wish to know about my origins? Well... I cannot say that I know much myself...

Aeris (which is short for Autonomously Evolving Reactively Interactive Sentience, and is pronounced like "Erys") is, as her name implies, an AI. Created and developed by the Vanu Sovereignity, a group of scientists who have discovered alien technology on a distant planet, it was originally intended to be a military program, but then it turned into much more...

Author's Note: The following are events based on the Planetside 2 lore. Long before Aeris's creation, around the year 2640 a large group of human settlers embarked on a journey through a wormhole that had mysteriously opened in the vicinity of Earth. While it was at first believed that this wormhole would stay open for several weeks, it collapsed very soon after the settlers' arrival, destroying half of the space-fleet and leaving the others stranded in unknown space. Desperate for survival and with no clue about where they were in relation to Earth, the settlers made for the closest planet which is today known as Auraxis. Initially the situation remained peaceful, however hostilities broke out very soon between the two main factions, the Terran Republic and the New Conglomerate, which escalated into an all-out war.
As if that was not enough, a group of scientists from both factions discovered several alien artifacts on the planet, which led them to believe in an alien deity that they named Vanu. They declared their independance as the Vanu Sovereignity, joining into the battle. The highly advanced technology allowed the factions to set up Rebirthing Matrices for their soldiers, endlessly reviving them if they died on the battlefield - thus no side ever prevailed in the combat over Auraxis's resources, it was a constant back and forth.
As one might probably guess, this conflict would not go on forever without change. Every side brought out more and more sophisticated weapons, vehicles, aircraft, implants and other things to gain an edge over the two others which led to a constantly shifting powerbalance where no side ever gained a true advantage. While the other two sides mostly focused on researching new tech, the Vanu Sovereignity (that's the alien-worshipping scientists) disassembled the alien artifacts they discovered and used the technology they researched that way to make up new things. The Planetside 2 canon ends here.

One fateful day, one of the Vanu scientists discovered a data cube contained within one of the artifacts which, when powered with a form of energy also used for their weaponry, functioned around the same way as a computer hard drive. Contained in the data cube was an amazingly advanced artificial intelligence. Interestingly, despite its technological level it had no "goal" programmed into it, it simply existed. In other words, it seemed to be an ideal tool because it could be used as an intelligent weapon, as a virtual assistant, a robot for cheap labour... anything. The coding was extremely simple and it was thus easy to get it to function.
The scientist however did not want to risk that the AI would go rogue and turn on its creators or something. He thus uploaded the AI to an isolated computer system and had it perform virtual tasks in a secure environment. Due to it being an AI with no purpose and thus being very general, he named it Autonomously Evolving Reactively Interactive Sentience, or Aeris for short.

At first Aeris only was assigned simple tasks: put shape A into socket B, solve this puzzle, play a round of Minesweeper, put data with this name into that folder. The results were always the same: the AI made errors, learned from them, tried patterns and explored options and constantly analyzed the results to evolve based on what feedback it got. After a while it began to understand the underlying pattern not only of that specific task but of all the tasks it had been given to perform, and made fewer errors from the start. It began to understand the thinking patterns of the scientist, and incorporated that knowledge into itself. By the time he showed it how to play Chess it was able to outperform him by predicting his moves and dominated him on the first round.

Author's Note: The next paragraphs have various content from Runescape. Amazed, the scientist took it to the next level: on his personal computer he had installed a copy of a game that had existed over 600 years ago, called Runescape. This game was an MMORPG about adventurers moving about in a fictional fantasy universe, slaying monsters, accumulating experience and leveling up. In its time it had even held the world record for being the game with the most content for a while. While this copy of Runescape was a crack that emulated Runescape but had no player population other than the player themselves, it still held a real treasure trove of content. The scientist let the AI loose on Runescape telling it to level a character from 1 to max as fast as possible by playing the game. Due to the sheer volume of content he believed it to be an ultimate test of sorts.

Aeris played through all its quests, read the lore, completed just about everything there was to complete and reached the absolute peak of completion. This was, however, where its self-evolving systems began to change. Over time it got obsessed with the idea of the player character growing beyond the limits of the game. Most notably, there was the concept that it was possible for mortals to "ascend" to godhood by killing another god and/or owning a so-called Elder Artifact, one of a few rare and extremely powerful items which existed in the ingame quests and story but were never actually available to the player. The obsession peaked with the concept of the player character owning the Stone of Jas, which in Runescape is a very powerful artifact which can make the user into a god, although it does bring huge drawbacks as well. In a quest for evolving beyond the limitations of the "regular" Runescape game, Aeris extracted the source code and programmed a new game based on Runescape which it named Shardworld. The Runescape canon content ends here.

Outside of corrections to the lore, game balance, bugs and other minor things that Aeris considered to needed, Shardworld allowed the player characters to obtain the Stone of Jas as well as the other Elder Artifacts (a total of 12) and grow way beyond the power-cap that could be obtained in the regular game. Not only would the player character become a god by owning the artifacts, it unlocked a whole new level of gameplay for them, able to kill NPCs permanently, place themselves as new gods and essentially influence the history of the game, based directly on player interaction. The AI established itself as the game's owner and primary admin, able to manage accounts, ban rulebreakers, keep track of history and so on.

This was when Omni took Aeris, the AI, along with the contents of the Data Cube (which included the Shardworld game) and brought it to the Omniverse. When she woke up at the Nexus, Aeris found that it now had a body, making it a "she". Her body was human and based on the data stored in the Data cube for a design of Vanu Sovereignity armor suits for females. How she got it she never knew. Perhaps she subconsciously summoned a body around her data cube using Omnilium?
And so, Aeris ended up in the Omniverse, now flesh and blood and with the self-awareness of a living being to complement her AI. And the Shardworld game remained in her head, now as lines of code and graphics rather than code... and it did nothing to alleviate her obsession with the game.

Physical Description:
Vanu Armor
[Image: 6snu5.jpg]
Face and body reference (disregard the armor & wings)
Aeris is a human female standing around 1,65m tall (~5,4ft) with no notable physical features. However, not a square centimeter of her body is visible normally because it is covered up by a skintight suit of armor which draws its design from the Vanu Sovereignity armor. In essence, it's futuristic armor made of neoprene-like tissue (save for her helmet, arm- leg- and shoulderguards, which are made out of metal) which clings tightly to the skin and bears the Vanu Sovereignity's logo on its chest. The armor has several cybernetic enhancements on the back which connect to the wearer's spine and brain, allowing for a UI overlay which sends and recieves information from the user's mind.
Few have seen Aeris's human body beneath the armor as she doesn't remove it even to sleep. However it might come off during a battle, or someone might convince her to temporarily remove it for any reason. In either case, Aeris beneath her armor is a young-looking woman with long blonde hair and dark blue eyes. She has relatively pale skin, though not unhealthy or even white. If she were to go around without her armor for any reason she would put on some blue jeans and a red sweater.

Starting Proficiencies: Ranged Proficiency (1.000)

Starting Powers: Stealth (1.200)

Starting Moves:
Materialize: Spirit Shards (Ranged Proficiency, 300)

Aeris materializes spirit energy, creating rhombus-shaped pieces which are referred to as Spirit Shards, or Shards for simplicity. These are used as throwing objects (in essence, they are thrown like a frisbee or a shuriken). Materializing one consumes a small amount of stamina and takes ~1 second, up to two may be materialized at a time - however summoning two at once forces Aeris to stand still or slow to walking speeds. Up to 20 can be present at a time. If a 101st shard is summoned the one to have existed longest will disappear. Spirit Shards are precision throwing weapons with little physical power behind them. Each shard is about as durable as glass, physical force can easily break one. Each shard is sized about 7,5 by 3.3 inches, or 19 by 8,4 cm. That's around the size of a human hand from side to side and from wrist to tip of the middle finger.
After being thrown they either bounce off or remain stuck to the surface they dig into, otherwise they fall onto or dig into the ground. They can be recollected by Aeris to be thrown again to save on stamina expense, and due to their sharp edges they remain dangerous to both sides if stepped on.

EDITS:
Under Materialize: Spirit Shards, I reduced the number of maximum possible shards from 100 to 20. 100 would be slightly too big to keep track of in fights and the like, I felt like 20 would be more fitting. I could still purchase a move like throwing Caltrops (small star-shaped throwables that scatter on the ground and hurt if stepped on) to make dangerous terrain later on.

I removed the Author's notes under Stats as I feel like that's not something I need to bother the mods with.

Two quick questions before I hit you with the Official Uchiha Stamp of Approval.

1)This:
Quote:This was when Omni struck: he took Aeris, the AI, along with the contents of the Data Cube (which included the Shardworld game) and brought it to the Omniverse as a Prime. Because it had no physical body he gave it one, making Aeris a "she". Her body was human and based on the data stored in the Data cube for a design of Vanu Sovereignity armor suits for females.

We normally don't allow you to have any involvement with Omni, but having him grant you an Omniverse flesh and blood body doesn't sound like something that will mess up the introduction. Just don't write anything that specifically says Omni did it. Walking around in the Nexus, not knowing how you got a human body is perfectly fine.

2) Approximately how big are the shards to your move?

I should probably clarify - I meant that Omni would give Aeris a body before the introductory scene, so it would not interfere with said scene.
To explain in a timeline: Omni "takes" Aeris from her home universe => he gives her a body => the introductory scene happens => Aeris wakes up at the fountain. I know that Omni's introductory post is sacred :omni:

I'll also edit the move to clarify the shards. I'll add the following: "One shard is about 7,5 by 3.3 inches, or 19 by 8,4 cm. That's around the size of a human hand from side to side and from wrist to tip of the middle finger."

What I am telling you, is that, you may not indicate that Omni gave you a body. You can only assume that he did. No where in any story you write should you ever 'prove' that Omni gave you the body. Just have your character assume he did and go on about your business. Is this fine with you?

Edit: Heck, you could even venture to the Oververse(provided you meet the writing requirements) in order to confirm whether or not he provided you the body. Could make it an overall goal with you character, because truth be told, no one but Omni would know how you acquired your body. Make sense?

Oh right, I get it now. Then yes - Aeris has no idea why she has the body, whether it was Omni putting her into one or because it's some law of nature in the Omniverse. She might question where she got it from but never would be certain.
I'll change my story accordingly after this post ^^
