The Nexus was a place where all life began in Omniverse. It was where the primes gathered, shocked, and in awe, but mostly bitter. It was the birth of their existence, beyond death, and it was where time stood still. To go forward meant to accept this fate and find some place where they could be happy, or find glory. The whiteness went on for what felt forever, and the only thing that wasn't white, was the massive fountain whose waters were as crystalline as magic.
Long pink hair fell behind her, and a few inches floated in the waters, carelessly moving with the current. Legs were folded criss cross, hands empty, palms up, limp in her lap. The girl's head was bowed and eyes downcast. A shadow had overcome her features. It wasn't unusual for her to be so still and silent, but this was far from the usual. It would take time for her to process what had just happened...and because of this, she remained still, and let the sound of the fountain be her only focus.
Victoria snapped her fingers, and a spark lit the air, but fizzled out as if it were but a lightening bug. Her fingers curled inward and she remained silent. Years had been spent honing skills, and remaining in control of feelings. She had fallen in love, had her heart broken, slaughtered armies and impaled a planet. This had all occurred back home, on Earth, but that was gone.
She wanted to believe this was another sick game. It had to be, hadn't it? How many times had she been knocked out, whisked away, taken to play as a puppet. This was not the same. It felt different. The lonliness was overpowering. She felt herself close up, and instinctively, her knees bent and she folded her arms around them. In this position she sat, hugging herself, and she felt as if she were thirteen again.
The assassin had thought that, after so long, she would be free...and she wondered if this was it. Had it all be a dream, and this was the reality? Her eyes lifted and she peered into the distance. She was no stronger than when she started years ago, and those days were as clear as ever. Parks had tried to take advantage of her...and never had she thought it possible. Maybe, all those days she spent training, she had done so to keep people like him at bay...
To this day she'd never let herself unguarded to another. Not even Jeremy – the man she tried so hard to hate, and so hard to like – was able to bed her. It was something she'd won. Now, in this place, she was still that girl...and now she was just as weak.
--
Victoria was angry, but after shouting into nothingness, she'd resigned to walking. Her mind rattled over the past, over what had happened, but nothing came to mind. She was on a mission, she was doing what she did best...and then she was here. The guns she carried were gone. All she had was the clothing on her back, and despite having knowledge of this Omnilium that existed here, she didn't attempt it. That could wait. She had her basic abilities...as she had tested with a quick shot at the air. It would take a more difficult test to see how her regeneration would hold out...
So she walked, and she walked, her eyes searching for anything...and that was when she noticed the dark figure in the distance. The young fighter didn't run, but she kept her pace, heading toward the object. The closer she got, the more details she could see, until she could see that it was a mighty portal leading toward a new realm.
“If this exists then,” she paused and looked east and then west, “there is probably more.”
Not one to jump into things, having learned much from Jeremy, she chose to walk east. Portals could lead anywhere...Until she knew where she was going, she didn't want to risk any quick decisions. Besides, she was not sure she was ready to move on...she had too much to think about until she could continue with her new life.
