General Information
(Artwork drawn by Leonardo Watch in this post - thanks a lot dude.)
Source: Original, from a relatively generic medieval-magic fantasy setting.
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Age: Early 20s
Birthday: September 1st
Height: 1.7m / 5'7"
Weight: 59kg / 130lbs (66kg / 146lbs with leather armour and other gear)
Eye Colour: Dark Green/Brown
Hair: Mid-Dark Blond, almost shoulder length, has probably never seen a comb.
Build: Fairly thin, but not lightweight. Has toned muscles built for lots of repetitive bursts of speed rather than raw strength.
Outfit: Either a loose-fitting casual shirt (often with a dragon or tiger image or pattern dyed/stitched in) and beige trousers OR Leather Armour with lots of pockets.
Occupation: Currently unemployed. Previously, the same unless a mixture of self-taught student and folk hero counts. Prior to that, Dane served in the military for a short time.
Weapon(s) of choice: Longswords (~1m blade), Shortswords (~30cm blade), and Shields (~60cm diameter).
Notable Friends: Cepheya, Clownpiece, Cirno
Main Enemies: Dane's only really fought people in competitions (DA) and thus doesn't really have any enemies.
Alignment: Varies, generally tried to act Lawful/Neutral Good but sometimes strays towards the chaotic side of the spectrum. Although, overall Dane probably fits Lawful/True Neutral the best.
General Personality (how does Dane Regan act?): - Tries to act in a way to gain influence over society. Such as generally being a "Good Samaritan" (at least with general people).
- Acts like he's not good at reading emotions, so won't ask "are you OK?" or "can I help?" unless someone outright says they're hurt. (only does that if he doesn't care and doesn't need to care)
- If he thinks of a joke, he'll say it, regardless of how bad it might be, even the ye olde "I'm hungry" "Hello Hungry, I'm Dane" thing. (Unless something bad just happened)
- Somewhat egotistical and looks down on most other people, but avoids acting like it.
- Dane is hard to genuinely impress, though he'll usually try to act like he is if he thinks the person put in the effort.
- Dane will never be provoked to attack by words. Bribed, or given a compelling reason to, maybe. But he has extremely good self-control and does not scare easily. He's also very good at suppressing emotions and not showing fear, anger, frustration, and sadness, but good enough at faking them.
- Dane almost never gets actually angry. An annoying speedy fighter isn't going to cause him to fight recklessly. If anything, he might choose to act more reserved than usual just for the sake of doing the opposite of what he thinks they want (perhaps subtly using telepathy to double check). Dane will, however, happily act like he's angry dialogue-wise - but he'll only ever really get frustrated at himself or allies.
- Acts very pessimistic when trying to choose between a set of plans, with or without others. Once a decision has been reached, he switches to acting very optimistic about its success.
- Prefers a rational reason to anything emotional. And is very good at rationalising anything. Therefore, finds it very hard to apologise for anything where he is not blatantly in the wrong (though will usually say a token sorry, or fake sincerity, as needed).
- Can be very stubborn, for better or worse. Not because he finds it hard to accept he's wrong, but because he needs a good reason why he's wrong with adequate logic or evidence to support it (unless you convince him he's trying to make a claim with no evidence - can't prove a negative claim and all that).
- "Split Personality". Outwardly, it's only noticeable by him quickly switching moods due to what's beneficial or fun to him. In reality, he just talks to himself a lot with multiple fake personalities inside his head. As one can quickly become prevalent, this can lead to him looking like he has a personality disorder at times.
Aims and goals:- Research more about the Omniverse, Omni, Omnilium and Primes.
- Research more about magic and maybe try to get good at it regardless of his lack of mana (perhaps find a way to increase his reserves).
- Find others to help with his research (unless everything he wants to know has already been discovered) and make a list of potential topics.
- Compare his (somewhat medieval) knowledge of mathematics and science with others. And see what science still fits.
- Gain influence with the realm OR with someone else who does.
- Make some friends.
- Kill the Tarrasque.
- Do good or benefit from Dante's Abyss 2k18 (OOC note: I'mma smash u scrubs)
- Actually find something he wants to do. Dane cares about little at the time being, but may act on the above if given prompting.

Moves and Combat Tactics
Stats
Base form:
Dane's general mana distribution and appearance. Wears leather armour.
ATK: 1
Dane doesn't typically hit very hard, preferring to aim for weak spots and play more defensively.
DEF: 2
While being a defensive fighter, Dane himself isn't that much more resistant to damage than your average person, not even bothering to wear armour. He has a somewhat sturdy shield to use for blocking, however.
SPD: 3
Dane is pretty fast, both as a runner and dodging. There's room for improvement, but this is as fast has his reactions reasonably allow him to move at, especially when dodging in combat.
TEC: 6
Dane is incredibly skilled with all martial weapons and doesn't have a favoured arm.
Alternate form:
Dane's more damage intensive mana distribution. Due to the higher SPD stat, changing from this from to the base form is quicker than going from the base to the alt. Which can help considerably should he need to quickly switch to defence. No armour (but still the undershirt and such).
ATK: 5
By redistributing his inner core magic, Dane can empower his strikes to be much, much, harder.
DEF: 0
A consequence of the new mana distribution is the temporary weakening of his body's natural defences, meaning he has to avoid getting hit. It also weakens nearby materials somewhat, hence his body and any armour he might have been wearing is drastically weakened.
SPD: 6
Dane's speed is also considerably increased by converting the mana to mechanical energy, fueling his legs and arms.
TEC: 1
One downside of attacking fast is due to Dane's limited reactions, he can't aim with as much precision. But, when you can swing a sword that fast, and stay moving, it tends not to matter too much.
Super Serious Face (T2 Power-Up):
By wiring vast amounts of mana through his veins, while temporarily using telepathy on himself to create additional links throughout his own mind, Dane can harness a lot of strength at once and be able to control it incredibly well. Besides him either laughing, grinning, or looking surprisingly more serious than usual, there's no real visual change.
ATK: +5
DEF: +0
SPD: +0
TEC: +5
Dane's Powers
Super Jumping - Advanced:
By empowering his legs with mana, Dane can jump higher and kick off walls.
Burst Movement:
By temporarily directing a burst of magic towards his legs, Dane can boost forwards at double speed.
Master Acrobat:
While he won't often do a backflip in the middle of combat (he could if he wanted to though), Dane is extremely agile and unpredictable, even when holding his longsword in both hands or using a shield. So, he will very commonly dodge in seemingly random and unexpected ways, such as jumping and spinning as well as kicking off walls. Being knocked onto the ground means little to him, due to his uncanny ability to flip back onto his feet. A lot of this is from honed practice rather than his actual magic, so when he uses his magic to assist the movements (as he will in combat) keeping up with him can be hard for most non-speedy combatants.
Stealth:
Using a mix of optical illusions and manipulations of the mana flow, Dane can prevent people from seeing him. However, this will only work when someone has not been alerted to his presence and is impossible to hold up while getting hurt, and hard to do so while focussing on attacks.
Suppression:
Dane's careful composition of mana is such that he's effectively cloaked to all but the most attune enhanced senses. This is more prevalent in his main form than when he designates it all towards attack (due to the higher TEC stat). Furthermore, his mental defences are insanely strong and require a lot of force to break. Dane's suppression is always active unless he consciously decides otherwise.
Teleportation - Master:
By channelling his limited mana, Dane can project his essence across the magical field where it reformed up to 80 metres away from his initial point. This requires concentration and travelling further distances is generally harder for him.
Telepathy:
After learning some fancy techniques from Tearen Wover, Dane picked some fancy mind reading techniques. He doesn't fully understand how it works yet. But it's not magic. It does allow the wireless transfer of information between minds and the ability for him to read the thoughts of others. At the moment he uses it tentatively, as someone else noticing he's reading their thoughts may not end well for him.
Foresight:
Dane is very good at reading combat situations, but after having half of Tearen's mind and skillset thrust somewhere inside his own head, this now also manifests as an uncanny ability to know exactly when he should probably be dodging, and when he's in danger. So, with either skill or speed, he's able to deal with most mundane threats fairly well now that he has another power on his side.
Advanced Regen:
Dane's less so sure about this one. It's more of a new ability that just happened. Either way, his cuts naturally heal quicker than usual and with enough effort he can quickly patch up more serious injuries. He was often reckless before - this is just insurance.
Dane's Cantrips
Being knowledgeable in magic comes with many small tricks, known as cantrips (i.e. rp fodder). Often solely used as practice spells for young students, some do have small practical uses - or are just merely fun to use. All of these cantrips have the following key distinguishable features: -
- Can be cast quickly (i.e. in the time it takes to clap or click your fingers). Some motion is required and always has to be a noise producing gesture. Such as a stomp, or jingling a bell.
- They won't directly hurt anyone. Not even the slightest tingle.
- Any lingering effects disappear after five minutes unless concentration is maintained (which can be done indefinitely while conscious). Only one cantrip can be concentrated on at once and moves cannot be used in parallel to this (so usually it's easier just to recast every five minutes).
- The use of multiple cantrips can overlap if focus isn't required.
- Cannot be used while taking damage.
Minor Illusion:
Makes a small stationary object the size of a fist appear within 10ft/3m of the caster. Such as a mouse, or a pouch of coins. This object can be manually moved by the caster with physical contact. Anyone else that touches it will find that their hands go through it and realise it's fake. Anyone that inspects it carefully or critically for more than a few seconds will also realise it's fake. Once someone knows the object is an illusion, they can see through it.
Sparks:
You have the power of a small special effects team in the palm of your hands. The caster can make small sparks or flames of any colour appear within 10ft/3m of themselves. They do not produce any heat or damage anything. The sparks disappear in the air shortly after crackling. The flames disappear within 5 seconds, or when patted out. The duration can't be extended, but the spell can be recast.
Lights:
A small (when looked directly at, appears as a minuscule speck; when not focused on, it appears to have a diameter of about an inch or a few cm) glowing orb appears stuck to an object within 10ft/3m gestured at and provides a dim layer of light in a 20ft/6m sphere centred around itself. When covered by an opaque object it disappears (including hands, even if there are small gaps). The light cannot blind anyone, even if cast on their face. Why? Magic.
Ping:
The caster focuses on a point on a wall or solid surface and makes a sound (e.g. by clapping, clicking fingers, stomping, or jingling a bell). The sound then bounces off that point in a straight line until it hits another solid object, before doing the same. Each time it bounces, the sound is emitted again, but slightly quieter than the time before. This continues for five bounces, and each bounce must be within 32ft/10m of each other (otherwise the spell ends). Essentially, the caster can click their fingers, and the sound will appear to echo from point to point across a room or corridor. The spell does echo off people and armour, but if the surface is not reasonably flat and hard, the spell ends (so would bounce off plate armour, but probably not chain mail, arms, or a normal t-shirt).
Spice:
Are you bored of tasteless meals? If so, this spell is for you. Can be cast on a food or drink within 10ft/3m to give it the taste of having a small amount of flavouring added, such as a pinch of sugar, salt, spice, or even a fruity taste added. The additives aren't actually real and have no appearance, so added salt won't be spottable by physically inspecting the meal. Also, past taste, the spell has no effect on the body. So a diabetic could use it to sweeten food without risking high sugar levels.
Copy:
Can copy the contents of one book into a blank book of the same size or larger, or just a selection of pages as long as the equivalent amount of blank paper is available. This takes 1 minute per 20k words, so about 1 A5 page can be done in about a second. A simple diagram the size of an A5 page takes about a second to replicate. A more detailed photo or painting of the same size can take about half a minute. As a rule of thumb, most books can be completely copied within 5 to 10 minutes. This requires constant focus. Both the original book and empty book need to be open in front of the caster (within 3ft/1m) when the spell is cast. Each book will automatically flip pages as required. To an outsider, it looks like the letters are being drawn on the page quickly by an invisible pen or pencil.
Dane's Weapons
General weapons and physical items that Dane will use in combat. He's proficient with all of them.
Shield (300): Physical
Someone's up in your face? Someone threw a knife at you? Someone's trying to hit you with a big scary axe? Use a shield! Dane bashes his opponent in the face with his round shield, attempting to knock them back. The shield is made from a mix of wood, leather, and metals and is about 2ft wide. Due to the shield's composition, when used for blocking it tends to soak rather than deflect bladed attacks if not angled properly - sometimes causing weapons to get stuck on its thick surface. Naturally, it requires regular maintenance.
Swords (600): Physical IMPORTANT: Dane thinks he lost his swords and doesn't know he can do this. If you want to write him pulling it off accidentally/instinctively, ask me first.
Dane's primary weapons in combat are swords. Long swords, short swords, small swords that are basically daggers, and big 'fuck off' blades that no one wants to get hit by. While he used to have two personalised weapons, he discarded them in favour of a more versatile tactic suited to his instinctive fighting style. This can be anything ranging from a shortsword with a 30cm/12inch blade to a large greatsword with a 150cm/59inch long blade - or anything between. The size of the handle varies in proportion, with the longer swords having handles large enough to hold in both hands. Fighting wise, longer weapons tend to be slower, hit harder, and be more tiring to swing, while smaller weapons can be dual wielded more easily (or used with a shield), and are suited for a fast or close and personal approach. Dane's traditional style was to use a metre-long longsword paired with a shortsword bolstering a 30cm long blade.
He creates each sword on the fly, and each acts like a normal physical blade. Making each sword usually won't take longer than a second or so. Dane simply reaches down to his scabbard - regardless of the size of his intended weapon - and pulls out the sword he wants. It can leave him open for a moment, so he tends to try and get out of melee range to do this. Even if there was nothing there, a sword will always appear in his hand, and doesn't need to match the size of its sheath. If he doesn't have a scabbard on him, he pulls the swords out of the same place, or out of thin air in front of him (with one hand 'pretending' to be holding the scabbard). Dane can make as many swords as he wants, and tends to just drop them whenever he needs to free up his hands only to make a new one later. Although he's perfectly capable of going through a fight with only one or two. Any swords left untouched by Dane for longer than an hour disappear.
The steel blades glow a very faint orange, but otherwise have no key defining features besides the small letters "SQ" branded under the crossguard alongside the sigil of a lion (see the Physical Description section of Dane's roster for an example image). These don't actually mean anything. The letters are a joking memento representing the creator of his old swords, while the lion is simply there because he liked the look of it. Traditionally, it used to be on his swords because it signified they were made for the army Dane served - although he continued to use it for long afterwards, figuring it gave the blade a little life.
Dane's Core Combat Moves
Moves that directly require Dane's own mana to reinforce his body, movements, or mind for offensive purposes - every move here is directly linked to doing damage and make up the core of Dane's arsenal.
Break a Leg (300): Physical
By channelling his mana through one of his limbs, Dane can unleash an incredibly powerful strike. Charging this takes around three seconds, which he can do while moving, but attacking or getting hit breaks his concentration, and must be used the moment it’s ready. Once charged, Dane can execute a punch, kick, or any melee weapon attack. If the attack connects, the stored mana hits with enough force to send opponents flying back a few meters. The extreme strength comes at a cost, however. A successful punch fractures the bones in Dane's hand, and possibly his arm as well if he’s unlucky, while a successful kick fractures or possibly even outright breaks his leg. When using a weapon, while it typically won't get damaged by doing this (unless it's more fragile, like an incidental one), the limb(s) Dane used to hold it will suffer. In essence: same effect, just a different execution. Though he can continue to strike even after he’s broken many bones, overdoing it with the same limb causes larger breaks, and eventually an unplanned amputation. This doesn't use much mana, so Dane is simply left wounded and winded after use.
Death Stare (300): Physical, Telepathy
Whenever someone within 12ft of Dane makes eye contact with him, he can instantly choose to partially link minds with them. No information travels this link, only pain. Both Dane and his target suffer a constant stream of moderate damage based on Dane's ATK and his opponent's DEF (so Dane takes the same damage as his foe). This happens due to their bodies both slowly deconstructing and breaking cells and other critical biomass (or the equivalent for robots and such), so isn't noticeable and won't cause visible wounds. This will stop the moment eye contact is broken or his target moves out of range, or if Dane chooses to stop it. But, he can start it whenever eye contact is made again in the future. Both Dane and his target feel a lot of pain and know they are taking damage, as well as the source of it. This move isn't particularly tiring for Dane to use, nor does it require much concentration, just eye contact. If someone dies due to this move, including Dane, their head explodes. Controlling this move requires 6 TEC or higher. If Dane ever tries to use this with less than 6 TEC, he is then forced to use it every time he makes eye contact with someone and is unable to turn it off. This can only be stopped by Dane raising his TEC to 6 or higher (e.g. through use of a Power-Up or Alt Form).
T1SA - Magic Enhancement (600): Physical
Dane uses his footwork and limited magic to supplement his attack in both strength and speed. Dane uses it to guide his arm(s) towards their intended target(s) - such as a weak point or gap in the opponent's guard - and strikes as swiftly and often as possible. There is no visible effect from this besides Dane seeming to attack much harder and faster than usual, sometimes causing his blade(s) to blur in the air.
T2SA - Was that the Wind? (800): Physical, Burst Movement, Teleportation, Stealth, Suppression
Dane examines his targets briefly, channelling what mana he has and focusing it towards the movements he's about to make. His appearance flickers briefly, and suddenly cuts appear across the bodies of his opponents. Where they came from is unclear, although those with very quick reactions may spot a slight shimmer move past them. Each individual cut is highly accurate, yet often not particularly strong, but the multitude of wounds makes this attack incredibly powerful. Throughout this, Dane appears to still be standing still, in front of them - yet occasionally flickering. This lasts for about 5 seconds with around 5 new cuts appearing per second.
What the opponents cannot see, is that Dane is actually teleporting out of their sight near instantly, although those who see the initial flicker may suspect as much. The instant he teleports, he hides his body and blades with stealth, the rushes forwards as fast as he can striking key areas. After this, he teleports back to his previous position and pose and removes his invisibility. After waiting there for a split second, he repeats the process, again striking his opponents. These strikes are spread across any number of targets Dane chooses within 12ft of him. Dane may use either his Longsword, Shortsword, or both during this move. Since Dane is teleporting a lot, it's very tiring and likely to leave him out of breath, although he'll probably pretend he's totally fine and maybe maintain a smug facial expression if it hits successfully.
Fodder: Dane moves and strikes so fast that any blood from his opponents' bodies instantly slides off his blade, leaving it clean.
Dane's Utility/Supporting Moves
Dane doesn't just rely on pure combat abilities. He has subtler spells and skills, designed to make life a little easier for him inside and outside of fights, as well as potentially supporting his "allies" (or, at least helping them enough so that they can help him). Many of these moves also assist Dane in avoiding harm - either directly (like a quick dodge) or more passively (like making him harder to hit with some attacks). That's not to say he can't find more offensive applications for some of the below.
Muffle (300): Stealth, Suppression
By concentrating for 3 seconds, during which Dane can move but can't attack, he channels his magic to silence all sound stemming from within 0.5m/1.6ft of him. Similar to stealth, it will remain active until Dane wills it to stop, or Dane takes damage. This can be used in conjunction with the stealth power to become both invisible and produce no sounds (although in a desert, for example, tracks will still be visible). A very loud sound (i.e. a grenade exploding near him, or someone firing a gun close by) will also break the spell, leading to him having to cast it again. Primes with both enhanced senses and a TEC higher than Dane's will be able to hear (or sense) the muffled sounds regardless. As someone's TEC increases above Dane's the sound slowly becomes more audible to them until their TEC becomes double Dane's where they'll be able to completely ignore muffle and hear suppressed sounds as usual. Dane can hear all the sounds as usual.
Low Profile (300): Suppression
Dane can be incredibly hard to keep track of in a fight. By maintaining constant focus, during which Dane can dodge, block, and execute basic weapon attacks as usual, and use any non-concentration demanding powers, he can make himself much harder for other spells and attacks to read. As a result of this, any fired attack that relies on homing will not automatically follow him, and will instead move in a straight line if he was intended target. This doesn't prevent any 'homing' attacks that would hit him instantly, just something like a curving projectile. Any attacks in motion when he starts using this move will also move in a straight line. It takes Dane two seconds (same concentration requirements) to initially start using this move, and it ends once he takes damage or stops focusing on it. Furthermore, it also applies a steady fatigue drain preventing it from staying active for longer durations - so usually he will fight with this on-and-off as required. The exact strength of this is based on Dane's suppression power. Moves used by someone with a TEC double his will act as normal, and will slowly stop curving or following him completely once their TEC becomes equal to his or lower.
Mass Stealth (300): Buff Proficiency, Stealth, Suppression
Dane can wrap his stealth magic around any number of people touching him. This obeys the usual rules of stealth, so if Dane is ever damaged - the stealth ends for everyone. If someone stealthed by him is damaged, the stealth only ends for them. Furthermore, anyone who stops touching Dane after he uses this move will lose the stealth (his clothes and possessions are fine, as long as it's within ~3ft/1m of him). It takes 3 seconds and a small amount of energy on Dane's part to initially apply the stealth to everyone, during which they must stay touching him. Lastly, anyone stealthed by Dane also benefits from his suppression power until the stealth ends. This is applied at his TEC, unless their TEC his higher and they already have suppression (or mimic). Dane and the people he makes invisible can all see each other, but if the stealth breaks for someone but not the rest of the group, the group will become invisible to them just as they would to everyone else.
Mass Teleport (300): Teleportation
Whenever Dane teleports, he can choose to bring anyone touching him with him. The charge time remains the same, and from Dane's perspective, it's like teleporting normally. However, anyone brought with him will be dizzy and disorientated afterwards if they don't have the power themselves (or mimic) - this is easy to recover from, it just feels like they were spun around in a circle.
T1SU - Blink (600): Teleportation
Dane focuses for a brief moment, mentally linking different points in space. This takes about a second, and he has to stand roughly still. Afterwards, the next 5 teleports Dane executes are instant and don't require a charge time - but are just as tiring as normal, and each applies a 1-second cooldown to his teleportation power. This can be used in combination with any other moves Dane has that activate upon teleportation (e.g. Mass Teleport), but can't be used to instantly charge a move that happens to have teleportation as a requirement. Any instant teleports not used up within 1 minute are lost. Concentration-wise, one of these teleports are no more demanding than running or dashing.
Note: Despite being instant, these can't be used to dodge super moves - the high concentration of energy disrupts them causing a lag before he's actually teleported out of danger.
T1SD - Can't Touch Me: I (600): Teleportation
Seeing or sensing a strong attack, Dane quickly pushes lots of mana through his body, calculating the optimal path to save everyone in danger. After this, he executes a near-instant series of teleports throughout the battlefield, grabbing and bringing any allies within his teleportation range and bringing them to safety, as well as escaping himself. He cannot end up further than his maximum teleportation range (80m) from his initial starting position at any time during this move, nor bring someone who's unwilling with him.
Very strong attacks (T2 or higher) have a slight distortion effect on the magical field. As a result, the teleports are slowed and Dane, as well as any of his allies he was unable to help, are likely to still be somewhat damaged by the attack, although less so than if he didn't attempt to avoid it at all. This can be very tiring, so Dane typically won't stick out his neck to help someone who doesn't need it.
T2SD - Can't Touch Me: II (800): Teleportation, Foresight
Seeing or sensing a strong attack, Dane quickly pushes lots of mana through his body, calculating the optimal path to save everyone in danger before the attack happens. With his honed instincts and powers, he often starts planning before the execution of the attack even begins, allowing him an extra edge against it. After planning, he executes a near-instant series of teleports throughout the battlefield, grabbing and bringing any allies within his teleportation range and bringing them to safety, as well as escaping himself. He cannot end up further than his maximum teleportation range (80m) from his initial starting position at any time during this move, nor bring someone who's unwilling with him.
In an effort to push past distortions on the magical field caused by other strong attacks, Dane uses even more mana than usually needed as well gaining an additional advantage due to his foresight and increased time to prepare. Although some stronger attacks (T3 or higher) will slow the teleports enough to do damage to Dane, as well as any of his allies he was unable to help, although less so than if he didn't attempt to avoid it at all. This can be very tiring, more than 'Can't Touch Me: I', so Dane typically won't stick out his neck to help someone who doesn't need it.
Tactics and Fighting Styles
Dane has a variety of general tactics in combat. His fighting style succeeds often only due to it being unique and unanticipated by most. His footwork and attacks are erratic and unpredictable. He feints, feints feints, bluffs feinting a feint, and so on. From the outside, he often looks like he's acting randomly, and when he succeeds against a less skilled for it almost always looks effortless (even if it definitely wasn't). He can still fight as part of a group - his military training and drills saw to that - but he much prefers to fight using his own mish-mash style. He sees himself as somewhat of a strategic genius, and most of his hits are calculated. Though, anything that seems unlikely (even if planned) he'll play off as luck, especially if his foresight assisted with the execution. While his shield does not cover his full body, he will try to hide behind it against any opponent that relies on quicker attacks - such as a fencer. Against a more physically strong opponent, Dane will both dodge and deflect with his shield and never take a hit head on. This is more of a guideline than a general rule. Dane likes spicing up his style in the middle of a fight.
As a pure-melee specialist, Dane has a variety of ways to close the distance. Either by slipping out of sight (using cover or a teleport) to stealth and head by more safely, dashing up close with a mixture of his speed, burst movement and sometimes super jumping, or by teleporting. Just because he can only fight in close range doesn't make him stupid, however. If an opponent is clearly waiting for his approach, he will act with some caution - running into a charged "fuck off" laser beam ain't his idea of a good day.
That said, Dane is very capable of being reckless. With regeneration under his belt and some self-destructive moves in his arsenal - as well as an alt form with the firepower to dish them out against less skilled targets - Dane will happily hurt himself as long as he can hurt his opponent more. As a result, moves like Break a Leg tend to mostly be used with his alt form (or with powerups) so he can get maximum value out of them. He's not about to break his fist just to dent a more defensive target.
Dane is also able to exert a surprisingly large amount of control over fights. Teleportation allows him to easily get where he's needed without too much obstruction - and he can even bring others with him should they be touching him (such as an ally or a cocky enemy that got a bit too close when he was charging up the power) while stealth and suppression allow his exact position to be hard to pin down at times (especially when his teleportation allows him to easily get out of sight). Coupled with his usual dominance over melee, and Death Stare allowing him to distract or create easy openings against warier opponents, Dane usually has a rough idea of where a fight is going to go and how he's going to make that happen. Naturally, he doesn't usually start of knowing everyone's capabilities due to his lack of insight, so in cases where someone's powers and capabilities are less obvious, this is more prevalent towards the end of the fight.
While Dane is essentially impossible to actually provoke, at times he will fight with a somewhat falsified form of anger by focusing his more destructive urges. When he does this, rather than truly fighting stupidly, he's essentially saying, "I can do all this dumb shit and still win, get rekt scrub." In short, he's not thinking - he's attacking and not caring about the consequences on purpose, just because he thinks he can. If actually motivated to fight, he'll never do this. But if he doesn't care about the result, it's a possibility. Glimmers of this 'personality' may shine through in his regular fighting when he's completely sure he can get away with it - mostly in a form of cockiness or as a way of saying "ha, you suck!"

Physical Description
(Artwork drawn by Leonardo Watch in this post.)
Dane has dark blonde hair bordering on brown. He tends to wait too long between cutting it, often over a year, so the length can vary from an inch to just starting to go down his shoulders. Conversely, his beard is kept shaven because he finds the hairs a nuisance. He has dark green/brown eyes, fair eyebrows (in colour and size), and a mostly well-rounded face with a somewhat pointy chin.
He's about average height for a human male (5'7" / 1.7m), has lightly tanned (but still mostly pale) skin, and has a body shape tending towards being slim (but definitely not underweight). He's fit, so will happily run multiple miles, but his body is mostly built for short bursts of speed: his muscles are therefore well toned but not large. So he can get by by shifting his body-weight to generate power in his attacks.
He doesn't take much care in his appearance (besides anything that is covered by general hygiene), so his clothes are often thrown together from what's available to him and his hair is very rarely combed. Hence, he'll opt to wear any practical attire that happens to be sold in the area with little preference on colours. Although, for decals and stitched images he will choose something with a tiger or dragon simply because it looks cool.
Dane's "usual" outfit at home consisted of an orange shirt with a stained tiger pattern and dull beige/brown trousers (seemingly unfitting for Knight or academic). Despite his usual rational outlook, he'll avoid wearing armour where possible because it's uncomfortable. But when required, light armour made of leather or a hard but light metal is chosen. Often he carries lots of small bags or has a multitude of pockets fitted to his outfit, so he can pick up anything he finds useful and hold onto it.

This is the old image I used to use. It's irrelevant now, but I'm keeping it here for the memories.
Note: Dane is unrelated to SKYRIM, I just figured that was the best game to use a screenshot from for his appearance.

Personality Breakdown
Note: I should really rework this at some point - if you don't know how to write him, outside of a fight, write him like your average person with no distinct traits besides intellect. He'll seem nice at a glance, and any internal mind games he plays rarely make it to the surface.
Dane Regan is by all means a very complex individual. He acts like a normal person most of the time because that is beneficial to him, but in most cases he really doesn't care. Suffering a large disappointment in the past led him to believe many of his years were wasted, so out of spite and sheer willpower he tries his best to make the most of the skills he has - putting them to use for the sake of putting them to use. With the exception of actions driven by curiosity, he helps people because he can, not because it's the right thing to do. For example, he might know of a better method of crop-rotation than the current one a village is using. He'll introduce this to them simply because otherwise his knowledge is going to waste. Yes, he could sell it. But anyone he sells knowledge to will usually make more money overall or benefit more from it than Dane himself would from the income - so out of spite Dane provides most information for free unless there's something he wants in return.
Coming back to his curiosity, Dane strives to learn more about the world. He believes everything can be explained logically and rationally with rules and laws, even people and Omni. Should he not know these rules or laws, he will try to make and discover them. Naturally, because of this outlook, he finds solace in mathematics and general logic (so he would probably enjoy computers should he ever access one), so often equates other concepts to mathematical equivalents, or tries to explain using maths based analogies.
If there's no evidence, he will reject something unless the claim sits within something that's easily believable. Even after witnessing something he thought was impossible, he will often try to find a logical explanation that sits within the possible. For example, some things like conservation of energy he believes will always remain true.
While Dane acts like a social animal, and definitely does not see any shame in asking for help when help is needed, he is not phased by someone acting antagonistically towards him. In fact, he actually revels in the sensation. When given something or someone to rebel against, he will jump at the opportunity. Perhaps because it's putting his skills to good use. Complimenting this, Dane will never make the first move in a fight, unless him being attacked in inevitable. Or he's outnumbered and, should the very likely fight commence, he needs every edge he can get. Or if someone else he likes is liable to getting hurt if he doesn't strike first. He will, however, try to provoke someone into fighting him, and has done so in the past, just so he has an "excuse" to fight them back. Dane will always respond to violence on a higher magnitude than that dished out to him. So, if someone intentionally shoves them, he'll flat out punch them in the face. His aim is to push a strong image of himself onto others, and he reasons a potential fight will be stopped a lot quicker like that.
Dane is a borderline narcissist. He avoids acting above others unless it's from an egotistical point of view. He does, however, still look down on most people who aren't intelligent. His reasoning is that he isn't actually that smart and that he just thinks better than everyone else. How many other people actually question the world, and then use the answers they get? Not many. Of course, Dane probably is smarter than most regardless of what he thinks. Which may just be a somewhat optimistic point of view on his part as he wishes everyone else was smarter. Likely because he associates intelligence with rationality.
Despite his rational outlook, he will often do irrational things simply because he can. His rational reasoning for this is that if he only acts rationally then he'll quickly become predictable. This is partially the reasoning behind his unorthodox fighting style. It also includes why he'll happily risk his own life while doing something unexpected. Though this is partly due to him being curious about what would happen.
"Split personality":
Lastly, Dane has a somewhat split personality. He is very capable of acting like someone else, so, he reasons, he should also be able to think like someone else as well. What originally started as a mental game due to a lack of individuals he perceived as being "friend-worthy", turned into a compulsive habit. Dane constantly talks to himself in his head. Or, more specifically, Dane's alter ego's talk to each other. They often insult, criticise, or complement "Dane" and each other. Dane hasn't assigned labels to any of them.
In the past, I used to colour code them (see the spoiler below). Now I just write them all in italics as they're not actually "real" alternative personalities. He just talks to himself in a variety of ways.
Red: Can generally be summarised as Dane's anger, frustration, pessimism, and impulsive tenancies. It primarily criticises Dane and very rarely gets a "front seat" to his actual actions. It pretty much suggests to do everything Dane even slightly wants to do but knows he can't/shouldn't/would be disadvantaged if he did.
Blue: Can be summarised with the word "science". It isn't a bundle of logic, but it prioritises his curiosity and new knowledge. As well as laments any sciency thoughts to keep his brain occupied during silence.
Green: Dane's "feelings matter" persona. A replication of what Dane imagines a more emotionally driven person would act like.
Of course, while these may all seem distinct, they do tend to merge together in some circumstances. And often agree. Dane himself is a mix of these, and he often has them talk to each other while he's performing actions, writing, or talking out loud. Which causes him to seem scatterbrained. He may occasionally make jokes about "the voices in his head" telling him to do something should someone ask why he did something "dumb". Lastly, the thoughts use "we", "I" and sometimes "you" mostly interchangeably. Though primarily, "we" will be used for an agreement or something Dane will do or has done. "I" for a specific personality. And "you" for a different persona. But this varies on occasion.
General Note: I won't always write these. They will mostly only provide the dialogue when he's confronting someone or he's alone. Regardless of if I write his split personality, he is talking to himself somewhat regularly - except in fast-paced situations he might not have the time to think coherent sentences and just has to focus on acting.

Past History (pre-Omniverse)
Dane is mostly a future driven person and doesn't dwell on the past. He's not naive enough to think he should forget it however, so knows there are lessons to be learned. That said, he will very rarely discuss much besides general lore about his world. Therefore, the following does contain some information Dane wouldn't tell anyone. Though anything he would try to actually keep secret is omitted.
Dane grew up through the transition of two periods. The domain of the demon king, and the demon's demise. In the former, mankind and the majority of races were united against the threat of the demon king and his army. A strong and powerful being in raw strength, skill, and magic.
He was born into this bloody war shortly after his twin brother. However, he drew the short straw in the family hierarchy. While his brother showed magical aptitude from a very young age, Dane did not. Trying to compete for his parent's attention, Dane focused on academics. A choice that had a large impact on his personality today. However, even from the age of nine, he knew his parents would not be able to invest in his education due to them putting everything into his brothers magic. He also knew that any family with at least two boys as children were guaranteed to have at least one conscripted. Usually is was the oldest, but the parents did get a say for births reasonably close together. And Dane knew they would choose him.
So, rather than wait until he turned fourteen, when mandatory training would begin, he prompted his father to send him to the castle. Where he would train earlier in life than others, and possibly get on to an officer track to secure his survival in the war. From the age of ten, he began training. Most of it consisted of drills and general fitness, primarily endurance rather than raw strength. However, Dane detested the repetitive and monotonous motions. They were predictable. So, he devised his own techniques. While weak, his practice sparring opponents did not know how to deal with the alien-like attacks, making Dane the most successful fighter in the group.
In his limited spare time, Dane worked as an assistant to a Wizard on the castle to earn a small amount of coin. However, his main focus was learning. Even a small amount of magic can be used to great benefit. Using the castle library and the Wizard to further his academic progress, Dane eventually became proficient at using magic to enhance his attacks. While mentally draining, it gave him a further edge in combat.
Growing up in a dormitory full of other, more immature, boys turned Dane into a reclusive. He could act as needed when required, and even falsify his side of a friendship with them, but he didn't see them as worth his time. Instead, he could learn much more by talking to himself. Fights were common, and Dane was involved in many. Some he even provoked, just to get the satisfaction of beating his undesirable roommates into the ground. Though he doesn't talk about that now.
Eventually, after learning how to fight both officially and unofficially, as well as the basic "rules" for winning battles and fights, Dane was moved to protect a boarder village under threat. Being 17 at the time, he was too young to be eligible for a commanding position. Despite not being in charge, or anywhere on the command chain for that matter, he managed to coordinate a defense against a much larger force of demons. Though he doesn't talk about the details or methods, no civilians died, and only 8 or the 40 men stationed were lost.
Shortly after that, the war ended. The demon king was slain. And Dane was dismissed, though he (somewhat illegally) kept his issued weapons. Peace, however, wasn't much different from being at war. Not that it really lasted long. Kingdoms turned on each other and Lords began to dispute the distribution of the spoils of war. People were divided into an impromptu cold war of sorts.
Returning home, Dane met his parents. He had seen them occasionally throughout his training, bit it was rare. They talked, and caught up. Dane's brother had blown his chance at magic. Flunked the classes, not tried. And acted as if he was special just for being able to levitate spoons. So had thus also returned home to help run the woodcutters. Dane, who had been envious of him in the past, scoffed. He was beneath him now. And so, Dane then left for the capital in hopes of putting his academic talents to use. To benefit the realm, or at least someone. At this point, however, it was a desperate move to salvage something from his life. His military experience was wasted and never put to good use or recognized. And upon reaching the capital, he was scoffed upon as a pretender. The elite horded knowledge, only publishing as they died of old age. Even farming techniques or water purification methods.
So out of spite Dane put his skills to use. He no longer cared about making lives better. He just wanted to make something of himself and defy his bad luck. He wanted to ruin the lives of those who refused to share information. He published books. He travelled. And he went from village to village sharing techniques. And sharing knowledge. He experimented, derived, and deduced his own information. Some of which was considered controversial or even blasphemous. A hero to the people, an enemy to the elite and the church. Knights, even highly skilled ones, were sent to kill him. Using his wits and skills, he survived. He understood how to fight and how to win. And didn't just repeat training. He didn't see himself as smart, just a better thinker.
The hate from the church did wonders for him. Who knew saying that magic was a completed logical and natural phenomenon in humans, and that there was no evidence it was bestowed onto people by "God" would get so much attention? The thing is, the more illegal the information, the more people know it and the more attention the writer gets. So, while his books on agriculture, science, mathematics, and magic struggled to get attention before, they were quickly spread alongside his "heretical" works.
Relishing in his fame, Dane was able to feel like he succeeded somewhere. At least somewhat. Even if, in the long term, he would eventually die and nothing would change. At least, he told himself the former. And more firmly believed the latter. Especially upon visiting towns and those who supported his ideas. They didn't understand them. They just parroted everything he said simply because some things he said, such as common herbs that can be used to treat different symptoms, had helped them.
And so, they were still ignorant. Blindly trusting him because he had been right in other cases. Even though he tried to encourage skepticism, logic, and a scientific approach. So he stopped publishing, and moved on to fighting. Just clearing the roads of bandits, particularly those who were former soldiers with a lost source of income. The Kingdoms maybe have broken alliances, and have been in disarray, but none wanted war. It was too soon for that.
And so, Dane changed into a folk hero. The protector of the roads and bringer of truth. Despite him blatantly lying about spiders having 6 legs in his last book (multiple times) just to see if anyone would call him out on it. Still, it wasn't a bad life so far, just an unfulfilling one.

Chapter 2: A nice change in scenery
After running from Axemerax, Dane enters Camelot. Questions his new world. Does a few little experiments - including making a Bacon Tree. Summons some people from his past. Gets into a little scuffle. Befriends Cepheya, a Pegasus, who explores Camelot with him. Secondaries / The Crew
Cepheya [Currently exploring somewhere away from Dane, maybe waiting about Camelot, Dane isn't sure]
Cepheya is Dane's first travelling companion since his arrival in the Omniverse. Dane is unsure why she's able to talk, and her past remains a mystery. Appearance wise, she's a pure white horse with large feathery white wings. In personality, she's optimistic, likes getting attention and being noticed for her efforts, and is quite easily teased by Dane. She's a skilled and fast flyer, but can also maintain a fast pace on land. She and Dane kicked off pretty quickly, although this may be because she seems unaware of the brutality Dane can display.
Steve Ishmir [Deceased]
Dane's old commander. Dane summoned him to give him another shot at life as a halfhearted apology of killing him. Steve, being revived with those memories still intact, tried to kill Dane upon being summoned. Dane took his life a second time. See Chapter 2 and Chapter 2.5.
Steve was a very by-the-book individual, following rules even when common sense dictated otherwise. Quick to anger at any form of resistance to his leadership, he was a strict commander and managed to maintain a good track record regardless of his apparent lack of intuition.
John Drake [Location Unknown to Dane]
Formerly a guard Dane literally stabbed in the back to secure his position in command, Dane summoned him to give him another shot at life. He snuck away from Dane during the second fight with Ishmir.
A strong buff fighter in his late 20s. Somehow avoided joining the army for some time, and didn't start training until his mid 20s. He's likely to try and forge his own life independent from Dane.
Relationships (with people and places outside 'the crew')
The following is a slowly updating list containing people, factions, and places Dane finds noteworthy.
People:
Omni:
Even if Dane finds himself liking the Omniverse, he currently dislikes Omni for shoving him here unannounced. He's never met Omni properly in person, so he doesn't think Omni holds much of an opinion on him. And, Dane associates Omni's power with knowledge, so thinks Omni is probably pretty smart.
Axemerax (switched):
Dane holds a neutral opinion of Axemerax, limited mostly by the alien's eccentricities. He doesn't think Axemerax ever really saw him as more than a tool, even when they just met. And now, the guy would probably try to kill him, so they're definitely not friends. Axemerax himself is fresh from the fountain, so Dane doesn't really see him as being very useful. He has technology, sure. But Dane expects others probably will as well. And he wants someone who will explain how their tech works.
Isaac Clarke:
The pair met and shared a laugh and Isaac's expense. Dane doesn't have much of an opinion, but will always remember him as the guy who tracked a big streak of blood across the carpets of the Dante's Abyss 2k17 pre-show.
Clownpiece:
She's a fairy that can make people go insane while spraying fire everywhere. That's... that's definitely someone Dane wants to be allied with. And hey, she actually listened to his magic teachings. For a near suicidal little girl, she's surprisingly smart yet still a bit crazy.
Cirno:
Cirno wasn't a bad teammate back in Dante's Abyss 2k17, but she was too hell bent on fighting everything for Dane's taste. Clownpiece was generally a tad more accepting of reason. She's still a friend of Dane, but he'd definitely avoid asking for her help. Anyway, he does owe her somewhat for opting to stay back and fight some people that were after them. Although in hindsight Dane thinks it was easily possible for them to both run away.
Batman:
Just a guy in a black suit. A reasonable fighter. Also assisted in brutally fucking over Dane's arm. Gave him a free selfie stickthough so it's all even.
Dante:
Edgelord with a sword and stuff.
Grawawarorwr:
Blue thing that ran into Dane and stole his stuff. Still salty.
Tearen Wover:
Dane respects Tearen, but he doesn't like him. That's liable to change, however.
Enel:
Lightning dude who killed Dane with a dragon.
Mad Bull:
They fought, Dane respects the guy's conviction.
Factions:
(none)
Places:
The Nexus:
Dane doesn't have much on an opinion on the Nexus itself, it's just a blank place with nothing useful actually there. However, being central to the Omniverse, naturally, he finds it a location to make note of.
Camelot:
Spent about 2 weeks there before Dante's Abyss 2k17. Generallylikes the place, and found the library at Dalaran fairly useful for inspiration, even if he didn't directly find the information he wanted. Floating cities are cool so that makes Camelot cool by default. He hasn't explored much outside Minas Tirith and Dalaran, however, so his overall opinion of the realm may be skewed.
The Tangled Green:
Nope. Jungles suck. Humidity sucks. Dense forest suck. Nope nope nope. It's tolerable because he can simply remain invisible when he has to travel, so even if someone was waiting to jump people from the trees, they wouldn't spot him.
