Spirits, afterlives and Clerics.
#1
What happens to the souls of the dead if they follow a religion? Are they just trapped in the Spiritverse, or can they go to their afterlives?

Also, if clerics call on Gods for power, would that not mean there is a connection between those inside and outside of the Omniverse?

If Inlumia made a talisman to absorb background magic and sent it to his Gods and totems, would it be able to work?

while i can't actually substitute for a mod's take on this/omni's take on this i can attempt to assist in answering your questions in order to help with their workload so take these more as interpretations rather than actual facts

as explained in the rules each time a character dies they "respawn" at the fountain. no exceptions.

as a nonreligious person myself, the best interpretation of faith based arcana is probably left to dark soul's miracle system where the faith of the caster is what generates the energy needed in order to cast their spells. however if omni decides otherwise then that's his call.

and the last one i hold the least say over but i assume it wouldn't IF the omniverse is cut off from the rest of the multiverse for everyone but omni

again, my words hold almost no weight and this post was just me trying to take some of the work load off the mods by having another community memeber attempt to assist you. if i over stepped my boundaries then i fully accept any punishment deemed worthy

Actually, I wasn't thinking about the souls of Primes, but of Secondaries.

For a RP view I'm planning on having Inlumia try converting souls to his faith. He would even enter the Spiritverse, so this needs answering.

i'm afraid i can't really help you with that one XD

Moved to the Help Desk.

@Shiro: You're being polite, but in the future, just leave questions like these to the moderator team (although in your defense this was posted in the wrong forum). Especially questions like his that aren't necessarily in the Rule Index somewhere.

Quote:What happens to the souls of the dead if they follow a religion? Are they just trapped in the Spiritverse, or can they go to their afterlives?

From what I believe, our Spiritverse isn't an afterlife. It's more akin to the Emerald Dream (WoW) or the Fade (Dragon Age). No one knows what happens to secondaries when they die. They simply cease to exist in the Omniverse, much like Primes who willingly leave. After that, no one is certain because no one has left the Omniverse and returned.

Omni may have more to add to this.

Quote:Also, if clerics call on Gods for power, would that not mean there is a connection between those inside and outside of the Omniverse?

There is no connection with 'the outside world.' Characters like they would have to find a new surrogate from which to draw inspiration.

Quote:If Inlumia made a talisman to absorb background magic and sent it to his Gods and totems, would it be able to work?

What is 'background magic'? You'll need to provide a lot more detail about what you'd like to do. Do you want to have some sort of totem that you charge?

It's a mystery how faith-based magic works in the Omniverse (or pretty much how any magical force is working). Things like the Force, etc. As Alex said, nobody really knows and any characters who claim to know are just guessing.
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!

If I may, I would contend that faith-based magic doesn't need to be connected to the deities in question in the Omniverse. Omni would surely change the rules to ensure such. The caster's personal conviction would likely be enough.

Ornstein himself is an example. He's said to have been well-versed in numerous miracles, but to have died failing the final command given to him by his god has surely shaken his faith. This is my IC reasoning for his inability to use miracles at the moment; as he comes to terms with his fate and resumes his quiet worship of Gwyn, however, those powers will return to him. Over time, I'll introduce more of his miracles as Moves and possible Super Moves.

Sorry about posting this in the wrong area.

Right, so:
Magic, even clerical magic, works because of Omniphysics. Got it.
The Spiritverse does not equate with an afterlife, but more like the Astral plain.
Nothing is known about what happens to souls when they leave.

The bit about the talisman was based on the idea that magic is all around us like background energy, and could absorb the energy and send it to his faith's Powers. However, since no-one knows how magic works here, this can't be done for certain. He can try it, but we have no way to know if it worked.

Would this sum everything up?

Sounds about right.

Would Inlumia be able to create totems in the Spiritverse, and let them gather power which can then be passed to people?
Basically trying to introduce a magic system into the Omniverse which serves his faith's ends.

Hmm
Just thinking about the requirements of the totems. Buff proficiancy (for granting clerical Power), Hive Mind, Telepathy, Symbiosis (for Assimilation) and whatever prayers they grant as Moves with all the required Powers and Proficencies.
Create a Base in the Spiritverse and let the totems dwell there, drawing the souls of their followers, and we could get an Afterlife set up.

I think I'm going to try this.

I'm actually iffy about anything that even assumes and confirms that people have 'souls'. Maybe in some universes people do. Maybe in others they don't. I'd rather leave it vague and unconfirmed. I don't want to do anything that messes with other continuities. Shang Tsung for example, thinks he's absorbing people's souls. Maybe he is, or maybe he's just extracting them. It's up for debate.

Do not do that. We're actually going to be changing the name of the 'Spiritverse' because people are obviously getting the wrong impression as to what it represents.

I reiterate, because we've had some problems in the past with you understanding me: this is explicitly not allowed.

O.K.
Still, creating a base there would make it very secure. That would have to wait until he attained Spiritual Enlightenment.

I won't go making any totems or dealing with souls there. The idea of trying would be very tempting to him, but he won't mess around with souls on a massive scale just for an experiment when he would need to do a lot more research. Considering that the Omniphysics of magic means he can't study it properly, it would be too risky to try.

personally i've been viewing the spirit verse as a sort of overlay to the normal verses that reflects the inner desires, emotions, and dreams of those beings in a tangible and viewable form so when refering to spiritual energy or spirits, rather than them actually being the "souls" of the beings they're drawing upon it's actually a mix of the things mentioned above (hence why when shiro's spirit was ripped from him instead of dieing his empty husk of a body was stripped of emotion, desires, wants, and dreams so it just did nothing but stay alive)... or at least that's my two cents on the issue :derp:

You wouldn't actually be able to build a base in the Astral Verse. Think of it like the Dragon Age's Fade. Everything there is impermanent and metaphysical.
