So I can have a third character. I've always said that it would be really hard for me to decide if this happened. That opinion didn't change when this was made real. There wasn't a real "FUCK YEA" moment when Shang popped into my head.
I thought I'd see if anyone wants to help me out, so I typed out some ideas I've had, with details/pros/cons.
I'd appreciate any input.
---
Idea 1 – “The Sort of Technically The Doctor”
Details: I take a well-loved character and have him regenerate into a hilarious self-parody of the character who may or may not be me acting out some sort of amusing Mary Sue shenanigans. Deprived of time travel, he’d travel with, I’m thinking, a contemporary celebrity and a historical figure, to provide ‘humanization’ and quaint, contrasting view points '
Pros – For me, at least, I wouldn’t take the character seriously at all and would just write goofball stories and try to have fun. So I guess that’s a pro. Also, tea time with Omni.
Con – Time travel isn’t a thing, so that would sort of rob the character of its major/grounding ‘schtick’. Fighting and competitive elements would also be awkward (but not impossible) to manage.
Idea 2 – “Piper J”
Details: Piper is someone who was sent back in time after two and a half years of a life filled with mental and physical abuse and a dependence on clinical anti-depressants. She was an army medic for a short while too. She got a few good years as a soldier, where she realized she was also sort super human. And also part angel? The fuck. That sounds dope, Alex.
Pros – I wrote as this character before and miss her. There’d be no need for growing pains or adjustment periods, as she’s already used to being shunted through space-time and dealing with powers and stuff.
Con – In my eyes, I did end her story before I stopped writing her. Obviously, the Omniverse is a land of second-chances, but still. Unlike some other options that would be fueled more so by shenanigans or merc'ing, I'd probably want to do straight stories with her, which may interfere with other stuff. She also had a handful of mental-based powers that might not ‘port’ well into the Omniverse (stuff like empathy and being able to glean memories).
Idea 3 – “Android Seventeen”
Details: My take on this DBZ character. He’s pretty much a way cooler version of the actual Seventeen because I added on fancy cool powers like energy swords and stuff. If I was this guy, I’d probably play him as a wandering, merc-type character to contrast him more so with my other two characters.
Pros – Pretty emotionally detached. Fun character that could pretty much be thrown into any silly Omniverse situation in full anime fashion. Won't need a strong central narrative.
Cons – I haven’t wrote as this character in a pbp setting for a while. He’s essentially an OC, which may cause me to have to needlessly spell out history and all that crap. Silly self-nostalgia.
Idea 4 – “Jarek”
Details: Jarek is a man-turned-time dragon. He was once a man. Then he was a half-dragon. Then he was a god damned time dragon. He owned people. His best friend was a Halfling that stood up to his knees. He killed THE god of his canon and fundamentally altered reality.
Pros – HE’S A FUCKING TIME DRAGON.
Cons – Would require lots of OM to not feel nerfed. Might be hard to storyline for, because of personality. I already have one character focused on personal growth.
Idea 5 – “Mireya”
Details: Fuck you, Bandit with No Name. I’mma just take a card from your deck and flick it in your face. Mireya’s my favorite non-player character. She’s got a night elf mom (or dad? I dunno know) and a mom/dad from la Loisaida. She lived in Camelot. Lived in Ygg-dragons. Kind of hated them both. Lived by herself. Met Blues and replaced the Nanoha/Samus/Whirda-shaped hole in his heart. Had her own adventures.
Pros – Fun. Unique. OC. Pseudo-native.
Cons – I’ve never been one to complain about needed stats or the ability to progress stats with NPCs, prime or otherwise, so why take up a slot with one?
---
Those are my 5 main concepts at the moment. More might come… feel free to make non-random ideas. My goal either way is that I want to have someone I can run with. I got really lucky with Shang, and I’d like to have that magic again.
