Mimic, lowering its power for my character
#1
So, I know some restrictions can be flavor and don't really go against the rules. Like having a requirement that Schwi be hit by something before actually being able to Mimic it. But I was wondering if I could pose other restrictions and flavors to be more in-line with her canon

1) She needs to be hit by something to mimic it. This may get a little more fuzzy on enemy defensive moves (which I know she can mimic), and I know she its not a strict requirement, but taking a hit would let her mimic faster and is generally required for offensive moves.

2) Technology - Flavor wise, I was wondering how I might change the visual parts of moves. Namely Schwi would mimic things by basically improvising a new tool to implement the same function. Say for instance, Goku used Kamehameha, Schwi would mimic this by summoning a gun to do the same energy wave. Her copies would be obvious non-originals but perform the same as the original. Still the summoning of a gun had nothing to do with the move she copies.

3) Partial power Mimics. An especially powerful move or one that only hits a glancing blow might be copied but at a reduced power/effectiveness. This is a bit iffy since it would have room to copy some one highly draining move in a lesser form that is also less draining.

1. Sounds like fodder

2. http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?...9#pid23669 <- Answered in one of your previous threads about the mimic power, unless you were asking something different.

3. Again, fodder? "I want to copy moves at partial effectiveness"?

Mimicking within a fashion using already existing things is one thing (leg for a tail, weapon in place of another weapon for a move) but Schwi would be creating entirely new things for the move. A new gun or other tool to use the move in question. I felt this context warranted asking about it again.

As for 3) This could create some situations where I might be at an advantage to use a lesser version of the move instead of completing analysis of the move to its full power. IE: Caira had a move that was a powerful punch with recoil and high stamina cost. A partial mimck in this case might be a gauntlet with half the power, recoil, and cost.

Its you know, getting a Variable type of a move that doesn't come with one, being able to hold back the power (in this case incidentally). A punch might seem like it should inherently be able to be 'held back' but take the same situation but with Samus's Missiles. A partial mimic would be half as strong, but would take half as much energy to create so could be an advantage in a situation where she needs to hit more with more projectiles. Or use the weaker mimic missiles to intercept Samus's missiles but at half the cost.

The missiles, according to this flavor, wouldn't actually make sense to get a partial mimic of, but if Samus had a regular move version of Power Bombs or Super Missiles it would. These would be more powerful moves she might need to be hit by twice to complete her data about them.

Well yes, if you want to be able to do a half- and a full-version of everything you Mimic, I imagine that's a whole 'nother ballpark. I read your initially inquiry as only wanting to only do half-version for reasons of ic stuff. I'm going to operate under the assumption that it'd be potentially implausible? Or maybe it'd just be some sort of move called 'half-assed mimicking'?

I'll go bug Omni.

It would be, for this case, a strictly half or full but not both at the same time. Flavor-wise, it would be akin to writing a video game half done and then finishing it. Its not so easy to actually go back to the half done version. I suppose she could delete the data, get hit again by that move, and return to the half version. Assuming her opponent uses the move again.

And it would be only used for especially powerful non-super moves. (Though taking this flavor in the spirit its written is going to mean half powered Super Moves that won't get their SP cost reduced for being half power. Ah such is the cost with trying to stick to my canon Tongue)

I'd approve the "Partial Power, partial energy cost" thing as a 300 OM add-on move for Mimic.
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!
