Since pterodactyls started developing their own language.
I use the h in historic. Like his story. I always found it wierd as a child that herb had a silent h, but then again... Knife has a silent k, knight has a full three silent letters, etc.
I had a professor that refused to refer to the subject she taught as history because of the patriarchy.

There is no silent H in history as far as I/the dictionary know it.
I think herb is more dependent on how british you are?
