Deep Forest Encounter
#1
The first thing she noted was the air. The fairy didn’t notice it before, but the forest’s atmosphere - compared to that of the Nexus now behind her - felt... refreshing, actually, like she was finally breathing “real, true-to-life air”. If that makes sense. Most people can probably smell the scents of the forest though, but there was something else Eternity could sense too. Something that clouded the life of the forest just like oxygen, yet could not be noticed as easily.

The arcane aura of lifeforce.

The thought was brief, however; something else had caught her attention. Nearby, there seemed to be some semblance of a pathway. It was somewhat neglected... perhaps the only reason for its persistence being that travellers found it useful to have a trustworthy way around. Hoping to come across civilization or just… anything that can tell her more about the Omniverse, the fairy decided to take the road.

Along the way, the butterfly fairy discovered many things about this “world”. While she recognized most of the plant-life back when she explored the different regions of Gensokyo, there were also strange - sometimes downright exotic - shrubs and herbs that look like they were pulled out of someone’s imagination.

From the tiniest of herbs, to giants whose leaves alone were the size of one wing of hers. Flowers and mushrooms with enough colors to fill a rainbow. Some even seemed to glow fiery reds and vibrant blues under the shade of the trees. The forest seemed to contain every kind of plant possible! The animals looked to be just as diverse, but she can’t say for sure because the little critters keep running away at the last moment. She took this as a caution; there must be a lot of predators around the place if they’re that easily scared-

The fairy stopped for a brief moment, noticing the cloaked figure who had just passed by.

Eternity turned to face the figure now behind her. “Uhm, hello?” she said, halting it in its tracks.

Even with the rustling of trees and the chirping of birds(?), the silence of the moment could be felt. The brown-clad figure turned around to respond. “Make it quick, I’ve got things to do.” The voice was very slightly breathy, but it was also distinctly male.

Ah! Well, I’m a bit lost, and I don’t really know where I am or what’s happening,” the butterfly fairy told the figure, “can you help me, please?

An audible sigh escaped the figure’s cloaks. “Another newcomer, huh… Well, I’ve got no choice then.” His slow steps toward Eternity signalled the beginning of an unspoken interrogation. “I’ve already got a feeling, but I’ll ask it for peace of mind: are you Prime or Secondary?

The clueless fairy was taken aback by the question - one she isn’t able to answer anyway. “P-Prime? Secondary? W-what are you saying?

Alright…” the cloaked man paused for a short while. “Before you woke up, did some person who looks all-white talk to you?” Eternity finally answered. “Oh, you mean Omni? Yeah! He’s an amazing-

Yeah, yeah, I know.” As rude as he sounded, she did realize that the guy knew more about the situation than her. “If so, then that makes you a Prime. As for me, I’m a Secondary. That just means I was brought here not by Omni, but another Prime.

Right… things seem to make a bit more sense now. Those brought to the Omniverse by Omni are called Primes, and those Primes are given the powerful element of Omnilium. Somehow, those Primes can also summon Secondaries to the world. If she’s a Prime, then apparently she could summon a Secondary too. Eternity made a note in her head to try that out later-

By the way, this world right here’s called the Tangled Greens. Forgot about that.” The man interrupted her train of thought. “Anyways, I have to go.

The words marking his leave cited some kind of alert response in the fairy. “Wait!” she blurted out. “Where should I go if I want to meet more people?

The figure made a long, descending hum. The fairy could hear his foot tapping on the dirty road. Clearly, this was testing his geopolitics. “Well, here in the Tangled Greens, you’re not going to find a lot of… welcoming people, I’d say. It took me quite some effort to get the trust of my clients here.

I’ll give you two options: From your looks, I’d say you would fit well in Camelot,” referring to her butterfly wings. “It should be one of the gates next to the one you entered; just look out for an archway made of marble.

Or,” he emphasized, “you could go to Dante’s Abyss.

...who’s Dante? You’re saying weird stuff again, mister.

Oh, I forgot. In short, Dante’s Abyss is a tournament held by some group called ‘Syntech’, and it’s pretty popular here in the Omniverse. Lots of Primes join in to fight over the prizes, and a lot more people come from everywhere to watch the thing.

If you want to register, you can go to one of those Syntech tents I just saw right along the road. Down there,” he pointed past Eternity’s shoulders, to where he came from. “I don’t think you’d want to join, though. Just my advice.” If the figure wasn’t wearing a hood, the fairy would’ve seen a smile on his face.

Hmm… I still don’t get a few things, but I think I get what’s happening now,” Eternity said. “Thank you so much, mister!

Don’t worry, the Omniverse is pretty strange. You’ll want to take your time wrapping your head around it.

Thus, the two conversing people went their separate ways. From just a brief encounter, there was already so much information the fairy’s mind had to process. She heard about another place, Camelot, which she might have to explore later on to learn its own set of secrets.

Plus, this “Dante’s Abyss”, as he called it, seemed to be her opportunity to find new friends and foes, even if her experience with the other Primes will take a very… direct approach.

In her excitement, she turned around as if wanting to ask another question to the man in the cloak. However, there was only nothing behind her.

A slight breeze blew on Eternity’s short, turquoise hair.

Somehow, the magnificent image of nature had become dull.

It was not long before the midsummer fairy discovered the tent that the cloaked man talked about.
