Every prime gets a knapsack with the following items:

Rations
Selfie Stick
Flint and Steel
Flashlight
Waterskin
Syntech Tablet

Your Syntech Tablet

--The tablet has a handful of functions.  It has a Watch app.  It also has a Map app that provides you with a map of the island.  In the Island-17 app, there are notifications about Item drops, as well as reminders of what to expect in zones and subzones (in case things occur to alter the map or y'know *stuff*).  It also has an Omni-Twitter app.  It also has a Youtube app and a Blog app. 

It is not a surrogate for a proper Dataverse Device or Communicator.  If you own those items, you may have the Syntech Tablet do things that most phones/tablets do.

Reminder - You can always scrounge around the island for other stuff.  Just remember that nothing you start with and none of the stuff you gain on the island (unless its an Item Drop) provides any in-game advantage in fights.

So our normal dv interfaces/comm methods are offline?

Those items function normally. I was just saying -- for simplicity -- people can just use the tablet for those things. Ultimately, it's up to the writer.
