Location/Role: The Mari Lwyd is the title of an individual that once served as a chief advisor in the kingdom of warlocks and witches that once prospered in the Underverse. When their kingdom was shattered into the unstable landscape now referred to as ‘the Despoiled Dreamscape,’ Diablo spared the Mari Lwyd.
Now the Mari Lwyd roams this region of the Underverse as Diablo’s eyes and ears in the area (an irony considering the Lord of Terror needs no such things). The Mari Lwyd is tasked with slaughtering those who would conspire against Diablo. Many of its victims are the wizards and warlocks that once lived in the kingdom the Mari Lwyd served.

Over the years, the Tevinter’s wealth of magical knowledge grew. It is said that their grand warlocks and witches were capable of using omnilium to greatly alter the fabric of reality. Rumors say that some even slipped through cracks and made it to ‘a foggy little town’ in the Omniverse, although such accounts are treated as fanciful folly by Diablo.
At the zenith of the Tevinter, they started to conspire against their ruler. Diablo, who quickly became aware of their schemes, decided to make an example of the kingdom, which had become one of the mightiest in the Underverse. He rained down upon it with all of his fury, and he didn’t just destroy Tevinter City and its surrounding hinterland. His unfettered power destroyed the very laws of physics, destabilizing great portions of the landscape. Ruins of the city can be found in various locations, and while almost eighty percent of the population was slain in the cataclysm, the remaining survivors still linger in the region. While many wander aimlessly--their expressions catatonic and their spirits utterly broken, others still have their sanity.
Diablo spared the Mari Lwyd but only to serve as further testament to his utter dominion. The advisor now serves as Diablo’s agent of Death in the region, hunting down rogue elements and ensuring that none follow in the footsteps of Tevinter.
