Yukki looked from the notepad to Scarlet, and began to notice things he hadn't before, back when she didn't matter. She appeared to be about the age of ten, though Yukki knew from first hand experience those looks were deceiving. She seemed to be at ease whenever she was close to him, but further away from him, or closer to Reuben, she looked terrified. Yukki noticed that she subconsciously went into a slight fighting stance, as if expecting to be lashed out at.
Scarlet had straight brown hair that came down to her shoulders, with bangs almost covering her eyes, but not quite. She had pale skin, as if she had never been in the sun her entire life, and had deep brown eyes. She had on a gray t shirt with a logo for a company or group Yukki didn't recognize on it, along with dark brown cargo shorts. She dressed to be both comfortable and practical, and she probably didn't have many social experiences with strangers that she wasn't trying to steal from, and would be looked at like trash in tier 3, Omni forbid she go to tier two or one.
Finally, the only thing that struck Yukki as odd was the fact that she never opened her mouth. So far he had gotten her to smile, but even that was with a closed mouth. Yukki tucked it in the back of his head however, passing it off with the explanation that Scarlet was a mute, and that maybe that had something to do with it. Yukki had long sense absorbed the notepad originally given to her and replaced it with a PDA, which Scarlet was able to type much faster with, and could even make it give off a little ding to let them know she as finished.
They began to explore the upper tiers for somewhere to set up permanent shop. They spent the most time on tier three, because it fit in best with what Yukki and Reuben had agreed they wanted to do. Scarlet's only request was to be above tier five, so she could be away from constant crime, and only be around occasional crime. They didn't find anything on the first day though, and soon came back to the abandoned building that they had been in when Scarlet broke in and woke them up.
Having learned from the mistake of both sleeping at the same time, Reuben and Yukki took it in two hour shifts to sleep and watch to make sure nobody got in. Yukki almost felt bad for Reuben, waking him up every two hours, but pushed the thought away when he remembered being punched without even a chance to defend himself. Yukki let out a small sigh as he got ready for the last shift before they were to pack up and head out.
He slipped into his enhanced senses, and began waiting to see if anything would happen, though he doubted anything would. He was surprised an hour later when he felt movement from the girl that was sleeping behind him. He turned and saw her sitting up looking at him. "You awake?" He asked her. She nodded slowly and slid across the floor to sit beside him. She placed her head on the side of his chest. Yukki instinctively placed his arm around her.
"We're going to take care of you, you know that right?" Yukki asked looking down at the girl next to him. I trust you. It's him I don't trust with anything. But I know you'll make sure I'm okay. Yukki read the message a little grimly. "We're going to get through this. I promise you." The girl smiled her closed mouth smile. Yukki nodded. "Come on. Only an hour until Reuben wakes up and we can find a place." They settled down and finished the hour Yukki had left in his watch.
Tomorrow was going to be an interesting day...
