July Monthly Accolades (Until August 13th)
#1
After a short break, the Monthly Accolades are once again upon us! I'm sure some of you have some very interesting nominations to present, so let's get right to it!

For those of you who are unaware, the Accolades involve nominating (and later, voting for) those who have outdone themselves in a particular area each month. For variety's sake, the categories for each month may be different.

You have until August 10th to nominate your choices. After that, we will proceed to the voting phase where members will vote among the two individuals with the most nominations for each category. An exception to this is if someone manages to get 5+ more nominations than the runner-up, in which case that person becomes the winner by default.

If you wish to participate, think of who stood out the most in a particular category this month and post your choice, along with a 2-3 sentence long explanation, in this thread. You are not barred from nominating your own characters/threads, nor do you have to fill out all the categories.

The winners will become this month's "Community Stars". And what benefits does this bring? Here is an explanation, courtesy of Alex:

(07-26-2016, 11:34 AM)Alex Wrote: As part of being voted as a Community Star/User of the Month (I use the terms interchangeable mainly because Community Star is less formal-sounding than User of the Month), these members gain a color (you must select this in your User CP) and access to the Community Stars R&D forum.  In the past this was my pseudo-private forum, but I changed the name so people are aware they can use it if they please.  I do a lot of brainstorming in there and pre-planning for stuff.  Stars are welcome to share their thoughts and their own ideas if they desire.  Or don't -- it's optional.

Community Stars R&D - http://omniverse-rpg.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=36 (Note this will only work if you're part of the User of the Month User Group)

Edit - Forum access is for the month following a member's selection as a Community Star, and this is irregardless of which 'accolade' you were selected for.

One more thing. As mentioned in the last thread, due to how long it took to resolve last month's Accolades, the winners of those Accolades will get to enjoy their status for an additional month.

And now for this month's categories:

‘Best’ Character – Which character has you engaged the most?

‘Best’ Writer – Which writer wowed you the most?

Most Helpful – A staffer or a member who gave you amazing feedback on a story or was simply there to help you sort out some of your problems.

Rising Star – Which up-and-coming member stands at the crème of the crop? (must have joined within the last month and a half or have less than 8000 OM)

'Best' Story – What story did you find most riveting/entertaining?

Most Hammy Writing – In acting, the term 'hamming' or 'chewing the scenery' is used to refer to a performance that is overblown or exaggerated. While the term has traditionally been used in a pejorative manner, such a performance need not have a negative effect; at times, it might serve to provide humour or elevate an otherwise mundane production.

Either way, we all know that writers are by no means immune to this, using flowery or heightened language to make their writing seem larger than life. Regardless if the results were amazing, hilarious or just cringe-worthy, who's writing in the last month did you find to be the most over-the-top?

'Best' NPC – What non-player character (can be a site, personal, or story NPC) entertained you the most (for whatever reason). Please note who the 'owner' of said NPC is, just in case I am not familiar with them.

Purple Ribbon - Consider this a bonus category for nominating someone who, while they may not be the best and have all the twitter followers, you believe deserves to be recognized for what they bring the the Omniverse. (The winner must be a DIFFERENT person than last month's winner; the June winner was Ballad)

I haven't been really taking part in this, so I'll start now.

I'd like to nominate Mick Rory's Imperial Disarray as the best story this month. So far it's a super-entertaining ride, and it's too good of a thread to simply list it as the best hammy writing.

As for Best Writer, I'll have to give that one to Lord Dominator. Her writing as of late has been superb, especially in Two Koopas, One Shell. A damn good read if I've ever seen one.

Most Helpful has to go to Jade Harley, after careful consideration. She's really been on top of the OM bonuses for the last few times I've seen her, and she's as cool as ever.

Lastly, for Purple Ribbon, I'll throw in Blink. Now, I'm a bit biased due to the thread we were both in, but her writing is fantastic. Added to this, her free C&C thread is helping out a lot of people.

Character - Red XIII - This dude is a cat. A cat. HE HAS NO THUMBS. Yet he manages to be stupid-compelling and fun to read. I feel vindicated placing Red in this category because Mark's been writing as this guy for two months. Labels be damned.

Writer - Deadpool - We have a lot of good writers on this website. Writers that can make fun, pop-laden scenes. Writers who can have tense, gritty exchanges. Writers who can weave a tapestry of blood and devastation. When he's on the ball, Deadpool's Writer can do all this things and somehow not take himself too seriously in the process. Winner.

Rising Star - I dunno anyone who meets the criteria, I'm sorry.

Story - Trixie's Escape from the Underverse. This has everything -- Blood, death, lesbians, and demonic bondage. I doubt many people read it because it took the Author a year to write, but it's worth it. You'll be entertained and you'll feel vindication when you realize the heart that went into the endeavor.

Ham - Okor. This is 100% intended as a positive thing, regardless of what this category is called. I don't think there are many writers who can explain to you a dozen different ways that they're writing a lumbering disease vector. Plus have you seen this guy write fight scenes? Scrubs be warned.

NPC - Karl Jak (Deadpool) - I mentioned earlier that this writer has immense versatility. Part of his strengths is that he can shamelessly dive into the more ludacrous elements of Karl Jak's personality that others (and sometimes myself) often skirt around. Karl's an eccentric, pansexual inter-universal producer of television. Writes itself.

Purple Ribbon - I'd give this to Trixie, but I nominated him for another Accolade. So I'mma give this to Blink. He's like many authors in the website who occasionally drop off the face of the earth but always seem to come back with boundless energy. Between writing, offering feedback, and planning future Story Guide events, this guy has been great.

Since I've mostly been reading Dante's Abyss content, my nominations will sort of be biased (sorry, not sorry)

‘Best’ Character – Deadpool. Because I can't go a month without nominating myself. :p

‘Best’ Writer – Mark/Red. He's kicking ass while writing as a four-legged creature.

Most Helpful – Alex. Hosting something as massive as DA is a taxing job, and worth much appreciation.

Rising Star – Lord Dominator (not entirely sure if he/she qualifies for this category, so someone correct me if I'm wrong). Though I haven't been following any of your escapades (i think i mentioned being consumed with DA xD) I always see your name popping up around the site, whether it be in the c-box or a thread.

'Best' Story – Dante's Abyss as a whole. We're 3/4 of the way into it and still totally fucking clueless as to what's going on.

Most Hammy Writing – Okor. I've said this countless times: I don't know if anyone on this site can match him when it comes to making a great post. He totally dives into the moment and conquers it with a toolbox of words.

'Best' NPC – I have to give this to Karl Jak. The character is just so damn flexible (no pun intended), making almost anything within limits.

Purple Ribbon - Amber. You took the zombie thing in full stride, and you're doing well with it.

Rising Star most certainly has to go to Dominator. Best NPC is definitely the Karl we all know and love, Alex has really done him justice this year, and he has a spectacular amount of characterization.

I vote Dominator for Rising Star.

Best’ Character – I'm gonna say Hiro. He's been doing great work throughout all of DA

‘Best’ Writer – Alex is managing to run DA and write interesting posts to do so. Truly he is an amazing writer

Most Helpful – ElFailzalot

Rising Star – Lord Dominator. Quite excited to see where they go!

'Best' Story – Trixie getting out of the Underverse! W00t!

Most Hammy Writing – this is an interesting category, took me a little while... I think I'm gonna give it to deadpool. (Hmm, maybe I should be reading more non-DA stuff...)

'Best' NPC – Our illustrious Karl continues to rule his personal world.

Purple Ribbon - I'm actually going to nominate DL for this category. You do a lot of great work that people don't really see, and you always have interesting comments in the chat box.
If history is to become legend, it first must be recorded.
#8
I'd also like to nominate DL for Purple Ribbon. He's a quiet achiever and he's been consistently great his whole time here.

Hammy Writing - Dominator's Rap Battle roleplay

Deadpool, I apologise, but I should have mentioned that major events automatically don't qualify for the 'Best Story' award. =( In fact, I should just incorporate that into the award's description from now on, since it's a rule we've regularly followed.

But right, it's time to cast those ballots! Voting will last until August 13th. You may vote even if you hadn't made any nominations. If you have and a nominee you put forth is in the run-offs, you don't have to cast your vote for that specific category (unless you wish to cast your vote for the opponent instead); your nomination will automatically count as a vote for the nominee.

Everyone ought to see a Community Stars forum under the OVD. If you can't do something in that forum (see, reply, make a thread), let me know so I can sort it out. Thanks guys.
