Character Name: Asa "Ace" Gibson
Character Source: Original
Character History:
Ace was known for being the nerdiest, geekiest kid in most every social group he was in, even when amidst other supernerds or ultrageeks. His love for fantasy was almost an obsession, but his need to rationalize details made him the type to debate with other nerds and geeks, adding calculations based on cannon facts and comparing power between two entities that would never have met in Cannon.
To take his addiction ot the next level, he took lessons in Qigong ever since he knew what it was, instead of playing school sports. He later complimented Qigong with Kendo. On the side, he would learn basic skills from other martial arts from the Internet, to supplement his two primary skills.
Ace's discipline in Qigong would earn him a trip to Japan, where he would compete with other students. After reaching the finals, Ace quit when it seemed as if he would win. When asked why, he stated he did not want the reward, a trophy and large check. In his own words, he answered simply "I just wanted to see if I could do it."
He stayed in Japan, learning the language and indulging in the culture in general. He did not stay in the larger cities, preferring instead locations similar to those in his favorite anime. During his stay in Japan, he did many things, but his most notorious is the number of competitions he entered, won and then rejected the prize. Ace worked as a translator to maintain his lifestyle.
His competition in both hand to hand combat and in Kendo called to him an infamy he both enjoyed and regretted. It was fun to be the "powerful fighter" like the games and anime, with everyone knowing his name. However, there were a few downsides, such as a lack of privacy, that soured the whole ordeal. An upside though, came with an invitation from a swordsmith.
This swordsmith was not well known, but those who did know his forge knew that the smith's works were nothing less than art. In respect for the young martial artist, the smith forged Ace a sword, as one would find fit for a Feudal Samurai. Ace did not come out clean from the experience, having to aid in the forging process by preforming a bulk of the grunt work. He was told to name the sword upon completion. Ace told the old man he'd have to sleep on it - wait till the right name came to him. The smith respected the young swordsman.
Before the name came, however, Ace would find himself lost to the mundane world, entering instead the Omniverse, where his adventures could truly reach the level of fantasy he had desired for so long. He had with him only that sword, nameless it remained, and his fists - and a few helpful words from an ominous Omni.
Physical Description:
Ace's history of martial training has earned him a fit body, complete with a slight muscular lining. His six foot, three inch height keeps him just above average and lends to his martial prowess.
His brown hair is shaved on the sides and back with a crown of hair long enough to tie back in a ponytail or spike/comb up into a brilliant mowhawk, depending on how he feels that day. Sometimes it will just remain a mess, haphazardly brushed to one side. Ace's blue eyes are not the brilliant gems of animation. They are murky, arguably deep with flecks of gray near the pupil.
As far as gear goes, he is never seen without his sword, which he carries in hand. Ace does not wear armor or padding, nor does he wear overly baggy clothing. Short sleeves or none at all are his thing - with a particular love for vests. Pants wise, he prefers denim jeans, U-crotch, relaxed fit. Comfort for every kick.
Stats:
ATK: 3
DEF: 2
SPD: 2
TEC: 3
Starting Proficiencies:
1000 - Melee
Starting Powers:
1600 - Insight
Starting Moves:
300 - Iron Fist:
A move "borrowed" from the Marvel Universe, it involves charging the hand with a large amount of the user's own Chi and discharging it in the form of a strike. Specifically, Ace focuses his chi into his left hand and then punches. The nearly explosive force has very little to no range beyond point of contact, but the contained explosion is very intense, capable of turning brick to dust or burrowing a hole straight through a tree. Against another prime, the damage could potentially break bones if the defense is weak, or at the very least knock back a foe.
The Iron Fist technique is not used with the primary hand, as it causes great fatigue of the entire arm post use. It takes three seconds to charge, where the arm is flexed and held away from the body. Ace can continue fighting with other portions of his body, but if his left arm is struck, it can cause an early discharge, causing the attack to fail. Due to the drain on his Chi, Ace often uses this move sparingly, or risk losing his left arm for the entirety of the battle.
As Chi flows down the arm and into the fist, it becomes externally visible, as an energy appearing similar to "flowing" electricity, ranging from deep red nearer the fist to an orange-yellow as the energy arcs outwards. This is Ace's aura manifested physically due to the heavy concentration of Chi, and does not add any "electrical" effects.
600 - Nameless Asuachi
Ace's Katana possesses a Torri Sori (Middle curve) and a wide-straight hamon (blade pattern) making it relatively common in appearance. The guard is a black rectangle and the handle is wrapped in black wire. The sheath is little more than cloth wrapped tightly around the blade, held in place by three strings tied with obvious care. The overall length of 5'4", with a blade dominating four feet of its length. Despite the extended length of the handle, Ace only wields it with one hand, allowing the other to be used for brawling-style combat (or even the Iron Fist move.)
Offensively, Ace strikes with broad swings. These broad, powerful motions are capable of slashing across a target's front from shoulder to hip. Against a weak opponent, the damage could be immense, but against a tougher hide, it may take several clean strikes for a wound to become deep enough to end the fight. Because of the broad motions used in his one-handed technique, tight spaces or very close quarters can be difficult to deal with in terms of swordplay. Luckily the broad strokes also help keep opponents at a distance.
Defensively, Ace is proficient with using the long blade's flat sides or back edge to stop, deflect or simply redirect attacks moving slow enough to visibly see. His level of mastery does not allow him to deflect arrows, but another melee weapon is fair game, as is a slow projectile, such as thrown axe.
