Was Darkspore good?

I am considering using a character from Darkspore. Since the servers will be shut down next March, I will use gameplay footage to create the moveset. But the question I want to ask was: What did you think about this soon-to-be abandoned title?

Never played it. I played a PC game called Spore... any relation?

It was a spiritual successor made by the same company and is considered by Wikipedia to be in the Spore series of games.

My, that brings back memories.

I remember it being middling, but not awful. I was too young at the time to critique it effectively, or to remember much of anything, but I don't remember the characters involved being too especially, well, characterized. Perhaps a brief blurb, but nothing that gave them much of a personality.

Darkspore was one of the funnest games me and my friend played, truly a hidden gem. Granted we only played it for a few nights, but those few nights were hella fun.

It was like Spore in that you could attach stuff to a creature, but it was like Diablo in that this actually powered you up. You had a fair amount of customization with what you could make in it.

I was always kinda sad it died. It was an interesting idea in a genre that doesn't offer much in the way of those.

There is a distinct lack of god games, especially god games with some science behind it. I was hoping Spore would be a lot like the Creatures 1-4 series.
