Devil May Cry: how do I make shop?
#1
Although I probably won't be reforming Dante's business for a while in-character, I'm thinking I would probably benefit from figuring out how exactly the new Devil May Cry is going to work.

What I want to do:
  • Have Dante's shop established as a base in Costa del Sol [easy enough]
  • Advertise Devil May Cry on the Dataverse as a mercenary/paranormal investigation business [simple]
  • Have Devil May Cry serve as an outlet where individuals can hire the crew of the shop for mercenary jobs [this is the questionable part]
  • Have an NPC informant for Devil May Cry that can provide other odd jobs or missions for the crew to look into [plans have been made]
The question:
How exactly would I make Dante's shop serve as that sort of mercenary/bounty-hunting business? Would it be as simple as people hitting up Devil May Cry in-character and requesting a job done for them, or is there something more robust that would have to be done?

It seems like it would mostly involve you or others coming up with characters to be your Hirelings and then having folks drop by and 'hire' one for their storyline or quest. They could then RP that person them-self or you could if it's easier/makes more sense. Nealaphh has a similar thing going on with RPing his flunkies in threads all over the place. It's a pretty cool idea, honestly. It can help people that otherwise would get bored solo-ing in their storyline.

The only caveats would be that they wouldn't be actually useful in combat unless permanently bought as assists by the person hiring, it'd just be for writing goodness. You also wouldn't actually swap OM in the process, but it's definitely doable otherwise. As for how it can be done, it sounds like you've got it down with what you have here. Come up with mercenaries, advertise your services and start the fun. Just bear in mind that you'd be running/coordinating all of this.

Well, just like in the DMC games, Dante would technically be the only employee to consult for jobs, meaning it'd be only him being hired out for stuff rather than random flunkies. Then again, that could change if other players decide they want to join up with Dante and help run Devil May Cry, making multiple characters available for different jobs. Of course, this is all assuming the shop takes off enough in-character for people to actually be interested in joining, and assuming Dante likes/trusts those other enough to help run his shop.

Thanks for the help, it's handy to know what exactly I'm dealing with when attempting to make a business like this work out somehow in the Omniverse.

Connor would be interested, and it is certainly possible for him to make a post in the Dataverse looking for work, just I need to figure out if it is going to be a 3-day delay or not......
