[/float]Location/Role: Tyrande is the High Priestess of all the elves who live in the Tangled Green. Even many elves who live outside the Green pledge loyalty to her.
Her past as the general of the night elf sentinels means she tends to become restless if she doesn’t stretch her legs every now and again. Due to this, Tyrande often travels on patrols, sometimes close to Yggdrasil and sometimes to the further reaches of the Tangled Green. She can also be encountered in the Astral Realm, where she travels due to her deep connection with the spirits.
Story: Tyrande Whisperwind was born a ‘night elf.’ In her youth, she befriended two twin brothers, and the three of them would remain inseparable throughout their formative years. When they came of age (in the elven sense), they went to find their separate paths, only to be brought back together when their people were threatened by a demonic invasion.
Betrayed by a sect of their own people, Tyrande became one of the central figures of the resistance, especially after her mentor died and named her the new high priestess. At the peak of the war, one of the brothers betrayed them, nearly costing them their lives. After a vicious struggle that nearly destroyed their civilization, Tyrande and the night elves succeeded in destroying the gateway the demons had used to first enter their world. In destroying the Well of Eternity, their own source of magic and immortality, the night elves set off a chain reaction that destroyed much of the world.
Even so, Tyrande was one of the many survivors. Fleeing to what remained of their homeland, they found that the well had been recreated but could not bring themselves to risk trying to destroy it.
For some ten thousand years this status quo existed, until the exodus of the orcs (under the very same Thrall of the Kingdom) to Kalimdor. Thrall’s arrival set in motion a series of events that heralded a second demonic invasion (see Thrall’s entry for more information on this). When this second invasion was defeated, Tyrande settled back into her role as leader of the night elves. Only now, the high priestess found herself sharing a continent with many new faces.
Tyrande was pulled into the Omniverse around the same time as Thrall, a fact they discovered during the period in which they worked alongside one another. When she arrived, she initially resided in Camelot and collaborated with the Kingdom in its conflict with the demon Diablo. Much like Thrall, Tyrande saw a cause in fighting a demon.
Unfortunately, Tyrande still harbored a deep resentment toward humans, especially when she saw a few of the lengths they were willing to sink to in order to combat Diablo’s forces. After communing with the spirits, Tyrande left, taking with her a large section of the elves who had been living in Camelot.
Although they saw a streak of rashness in her, the elves were drawn to her compassion and wisdom. They followed her into the Tangled Green until they came across a mighty tree. The elves settled into the interior of Yggdrasil, which became their home in the verse. With Camelot behind them, the elves had to contend with the native residents of the Tangled Green, primarily the constantly swelling population of goblins.
When Diablo was finally sealed away and the conflict between the Kingdom and Empire started to heat up, Tyrande remained a neutral player. Despite her desire to the contrary, she opened up diplomatic relations with Mokugakure, a settlement of human ninjas. The two sides join forces to occasionally beat back hordes of goblins and feral orcs. Tyrande often uses these small campaigns as excuses to keep her skill with a bow and glaive up to par.
A years ago, the Tangled Green was threatened by a ‘Blight.’ Unlike normal plagues that may kill off trees, the Blight that spread through the Green had sinister implications. It warped the landscape, flora and fauna, into twisted and nightmarish forms. Along with the disease, there were also strange monsters that appeared wherever the Blight spread. Individuals who survived fights with those humanoid beasts usually died soon thereafter and revive as blighted, undead monstrosities.
Tyrande, long considered somewhat of an isolationist, reached out to any and all primes who would listen. She recruited individuals like Whirdra Windstrom and Proto Man, who investigated the disease and eventually helped to banish its creator, the arch-demon Scylla. While the Blight no longer spread and is no longer contagious, its effects are still visible far out in the Green, and the darkspawn still wander and prey on the weak.
With the rise of Ambrosia and Garrosh, Tyrande finds her situation growing increasingly complicated. She is simultaneously lobbied by different factions in Yggdrasil to deal with these news powers through force or diplomacy. It is still a waiting game to see which side wins the ears of the High Priestess.
