In Valhalla
#1
The floor of Valhalla shifted and changed, showing images from the verses below. Some of them were close up, showing faces, others were from far off. Omni sat on his throne with a perpetual grin on his face.

A voice to the throne’s right said: “Looks like this ‘Magus’ character might be coming to see you.”

The incandescent silhouette gave out a protracted sigh, warbled by whatever sorcery gave him existence. Distortion aside, he sounded like a young boy or girl. “I can only hope. It’s been ages since the last one made it here. I’m not going to put my hopes in any one of them, though. There’s lots of potential there. Always is. But most of them lounge it.” One would be hard-pressed to guess whether the edge to his voice originated from malice or mere theatrics. Perhaps simple boredom.

“What about these ones here in the Tangled Green?”

“It’s amusing watching them fight goblins.”

“And these ones in the Dunes?”

Omni barked a laugh. “Now that is interesting. Already turning on each other. Look at ‘em.” He poked the image of Ganondorf and Eighteen, giggling to himself. “I’m not even sure why, and I’m omniscient.”

“You think that Ganondorf will go anywhere?”

“Who knows!” The being threw his palms open. “If he did, it’d certainly make an interesting change to the current situation. The way things are going … oh, hey, are you trying to get me to spill the beans!?”

The voice giggled. “You caught me, Omni.”

“I always will! Now let’s see … Coruscant, Coruscant. Let’s see where this jubilee takes us …”

"Oh my god!" Omni laughed, "Look at him go. I totally made the right decision here. Totally worth it."

"How long do you think he'll last?"

"That'd be spoiling it, right?"

"So why did you weaken the limitations on vehicles in the different verses?"

Omni looked up at the one who addressed him. "I did?"

"Who else?"

"Hmm ..." Omni's childlike voice echoed through the hall, as though it came from everywhere at once. "I'm a little disappointed. I would have thought you could figure it out."

"Do you have to be so enigmatic all the time?" The voice sounded genuinely irritated now.

A giggle. "The Primes grow in power. The worlds grow with them. Like a mirror. This is just the beginning."

“He’s been like this for days now.”

The pair of angels looked over towards the pale silhouette they called Omni. He was on all fours, giggling. Across the floor were splayed dozens of images, each showing similar scenes. A hut in the desert sands. A booth in the frozen wastes. Even one right next to the Fountain of Infinity.

Omni’s hands were playing with the images the way a child might play with a new toy. He would reach out with one hand, grabbing an image from the floor and pulling it closer to him, knocking the other images aside. Then he’d contort it, bringing the image closer or further away before flicking it aside to play with another. Knowing nothing else about the childlike figure, one would be hard strapped to guess whether he was some kind of technical genius creating a new program or simply a mentally challenged child playing with bright colours that amused him.

“I don’t get what’s so interesting about a reality television show. It’s a game. Aren’t there more interesting things going on that might be capturing Omni’s attention?”

“Apparently not.”

“Heeheehee!” The gleeful shout pierced right through the angels’ conversation. Omni had turned to them, his fingers still twitching on the ghostlike marble floor. “Don’t you get it?”

The first angel stood with her arms crossed, a sullen look of exasperation visible beneath her eyeless golden visor. The other, a shorter male angel, took the bait. “Pray Omni, you’ll have to explain.”

Omni was only too happy to. He gestured with open hands and uncontained glee at the pictures, giggling. “Look! Look at what one of my primes did!” After another giggle he continued. “He’s making his own rules. Within the rules!

Omni turned back the images and resumed playing with them. “Look at how far they’ve come. In only nine short years …”

The male angel’s facial expression dropped through surprise to complete shock. “Should you not, then … I don’t know, do something?! It’s one thing for them to make a silly reality show, but what if they bend the rules further? I know it’s impossible, and beg my pardon for even saying it, but what if they could find some loophole …” He took a moment to consider his words before continuing. “You wouldn’t be untouchable.”

Omni turned from his images, for just one brief second. He looked at the angel. His smile remained still.

“Wouldn’t that be … wonderful?”
