Meriwa, Meriwa-Who-Dreams-Glory
CHARACTER SOURCE:
The Monster Hunter franchise, in short, a Monster Hunter AU OC.
CHARACTER HISTORY:
There once was a tribe named the Blue Sea Kin. They plied the islands and oceans of the Three Spoked Wheel. There they hunted the beasts, cultivated what they could, and moved between the islands as the seasons dictated. They lived this way for many generations, elders of the tribe guiding the younger generation to follow in their footsteps. As they grew in sync with their environment, for humans like the Blue Sea Kin were not native to the Three Spoked Wheel, they became complacent in their ways, the skill and strength of their hunters declining while lacking proper calamities to try them. Meriwa was born into this communal family only years before the great exodus, and her memories of those few happy years are scant and muddled. She remembers their legends, and as she grew they were to become her solace.
The Great Exodus. Quakes rippling across the sea floor, awakening the Great Lagiacrus from torpor, shattering the oceanic ecosystem. As the Great Elder Dragon rose from the abyss, the stagnating Blue Sea Kin were forced to flee their near paradisical archipelago, taking as much with them as they could, while a few hunters remained to buy time. It took weeks of hurried sailing southward before they arrived on another island. With less food forcing more dangerous hunts, the number of adults hunters in the clan faced a sharp decline. Over the course of two decades, with younger and younger hunters being required to step in, the once flourishing Blue Sea Kin were but a shadow of their former glory.
It was in this decline that Meriwa came of age. Captivated by the legends of her ancestors, Meriwa was apprenticed to the shaman, only receiving the very basest training in the tools of hunting. Instead she was taught which herbs made the best medicine, which rites to observe during burial, and how to commune with the ancestors through vision quests. When the vision quest during her 21st winter solstice showed her the glories of the tribe's ancient past, Meriwa became obsessed with returning to the Three Spoked Wheel. The Unknown Archer had shown her where the Lagiacrus hid its weak-spot! Stealing a boat, Meriwa struggled to sail back to the ancient homeland, pillaging the tombs of the Southern Respite for the vaunted Nargacuga Armaments and made for the Axle, where she would face the great sea dragon, Lagiacrus
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

5'8" tall and quite fit, Meriwa is dressed in the armour of an ancestral hero to her tribe. The Nargacuga armaments, named so after the legendary wyvern from which it was named, has mostly been lost. Only the bow and enough pieces to serve as a set of light armour has remained in the tribe's possession, until Meriwa took them to try and gain revenge on the Elder Dragon that drove her tribe from the Three Spoked Wheel archipelago.

Nargacuga Greatbow
A masterfully crafted greatbow, firing fletched spears like arrows designed to take down monstrous foes.
Cost: 900 OM
Requirements: Physical Strength, Ranged Proficiency, Homing Proficiency
Crafted from the bones and sinews of the Great Nargacuga Wyvern, this ancient 2.4 meters tall bow fires great arrows, literal fletched spears to strike down dragons and other large beasts so similar to what it was made from. The amount of force required to even draw the bow prevents full powered rapid fire from any but the strongest of wielders. Sympathetic runes, material properties, and tricks during its construction allows the Nargacuga Greatbow to impart ever greater strength to its shots by keeping the bow slightly overdrawn for longer periods of time before loosening it. Relaxing it slightly, letting the arrow settle back in a full draw halts the charge, which can be built for up to 30 seconds. Meriwa can, at her absolute fastest, go through a full sight-draw-knock-pull-center-loose cycle about once every second and not suffer from poorer accuracy. Given her background and prior experiences she does prefer to accomplish this cycle in at least 3 times as long, devoting the extra time to let the bow further charge its formidable shots. Given how higher levels of charge increases the difficulty to keep your aim on target, you only remain accurate up to 4 times your TEC in charge time, requiring the use of the target-seeking arrows runic array if you go past that limit.
Runes inlaid in the grip of the bow allows one to focus, decreasing the power and speed of the arrows, investing the lost energy to give them the property of always homing in on their target, swerving around obstacles in their path. As the runes activate, a magic circle forms like a scope attached to the bow itself (see the gif in the spoiler below for a general idea). Keeping the target firmly ensconced in their mind's eye, the homing property activates, only requiring that the arrow be loosened in the target's general direction. The magic circle is an actinic blue in color, as are the glowing runes visible along the arrowheads and shaft of the arrows that are loosed with this "seeking property" activated.
Essentially this, but actinic blue, not being a pentagram, and having a similar, larger circle hovering by the bow limb.

https://78.media.tumblr.com/d213db738632...o2_500.gif
The quiver, situated at its wielder's back contain up to 15 great arrows, almost fletched spears, which continuously refill at a rate of one great arrow every 10 seconds. The inlaid runes that keep the arrows in place during acrobatic maneuvers can also be used to completely fill the quiver in bursts, but this drains stamina equivalent to a light 100 meter jog.
When the bow is not in use gripping the handle, thumbing a small button there, and making a specific push-twist-pull motion disengages the locks and folds up the bow along four points (just above and below the handle and about halfway out each "limb" of the weapon) into a much more compact form for travel. A push-pull-twist-push, essentially the "fold-up" motion in reverse, while pressing the same button makes the bow snap back out to its full glory. Shifting the weapon between the "travel" and "usage" modes takes about a second either way.
Rotary System: Arrowhead Coatings
A hunter must always be prepared, always have the right tools for the job!
Cost: 300 OM
Requirements: Nargacuga Greatbow, Area Attack Proficiency
This strange device is a tubular construction enclosing a series of cylinders rotating much like the ammo-feed system of a revolver. Worn diagonally on the user's back, the case is a secondary carrier meant to contain and protect the "bottles" of arrowhead coatings. The main case has four slots, each capable of holding a bottle worth up to six applications. This gives some choice of load out given that replacing the bottles must be done individually, and with summoning one taking 15 seconds, not to mention the time required to extract the empty one, the case can not be refilled in combat. The position of this case can be altered to suit its wearer, once the proper measures are taken you could easily coat the head of any arrow drawn from a correspondingly placed quiver with only a slight increase of draw-time, adding half a second of additional prep time to the shot. Since Meriwa makes the coatings herself, basing them on her understanding of beast-fueled alchemy, she has only sussed out the composition for a single coating as of yet; Blasting Goop.
Blasting Goop
This sticky arrowhead coating is rather volatile and highly temperamental in regards to impacts while in the presence of oxygen. Coating an arrowhead in this goop causes it to explode with great force upon impact. The goop is very volatile, expending itself quickly, which limits the effective radious to 3 meters. You'd rather not know which beastly bodily fluid is this goop's main ingredient...
