If there's one thing a Layton knows how to do, it's defusing a situation. Or in Katrielle's case, fanning the flames. To attempt one of the two versions of the move, all of the following conditions must be met:


Katrielle and her target must be able to understand each other.


Katrielle must be able to speak, and have the time to say a short sentence at least.


Katrielle's target must be able to hear her.


If all the conditions are met, Katrielle can say something in an attempt to either calm down or rile up an opponent. Anything she says must be relevant to the target, even if it's just a well-aimed insult. The move takes as long as it takes to say a sentence, and is easy to do, but the move isn't all that effective. It requires multiple uses to garner any noticeable effect. It doesn't require her complete concentration, but the most she could do is defend herself, and even then she is easier to hit.   The more piercing, convincing, or aggravating her words are, depending on her goals, the more effective it is. Kat can't control the effectiveness of the move-- she just says something and hopes it works- sometimes she ends up saying something really poignant, and sometimes she just wastes her breath.

Soft Words can drain her target's will to fight while Sharp Wits can aggravate an opponent into a rage, often leading them into focusing on Kat. With equal TEC, it would take about 8 successful uses to start having a noticeable effect (unless the opposing player decides or story reasons dictate that it's particularly effective). At half the TEC, it takes 4, and at double TEC, it takes 16.

The effects last for about 30 seconds, resetting every time she successfully uses the move, and while not tiring at first, it gets more difficult to keep up as the effect gets stronger.

Attempting one version of the move will make the other version more difficult to pull it off, and acting hostile will make it more difficult to use Soft Words.

What's the duration on your move? What's the downside (stamina drain, etc)? Can it be used with other moves? Does it require concentration? The bit about Insight isn't accurate, as that just lets you see their powers and moves and such. If you want to be able to glean information about them, you'll need Telepathy and significant TEC difference. When you mention that it can be stronger at times, does that imply that it can be 'charged'? That would cost you another 300 if so. As this is a Debuff move, you should make mention to TEC comparison playing a role in how strong the effects are.

By duration I mean how long does the effect last before it wears off? And I think you'll need to add in some other kind of downside or cost, since right now it seems like the only cost is that when she's saying something she's a little distracted. If you wanted to you could have a stamina cost that sorta builds the more times she casts it or something, in the same way that the debuff builds up after each use. The effectiveness bit sounds fine as long as it's more or less just how you're explaining the effect building up, which is, I'm assuming, what you're going for here. Also the bit you have about TEC sounds fine to me as well.

Be sure to edit these bits into the move description as well as we go along here, so that we can assess the whole move and make sure that everything is covered.

Just some advice: I think taking an entirely non-combat character into a combat-focused RPG is a mistake.
