Ash's hand pushed through the mirror and as it passed the barrier that was the membrane between her and the water in the place of the glass, a cluster of bubbles boiled around her hand and began to spin around the slender wrist. Something solid appeared around it, ever twirling on her arm. She felt it, but by this time she was already being pulled through and back into omniverse. She took a quick and final breath of air before the mirror's 'glass' ruptured and the water washed over her.
In the Nexus her hand shot through the air and out of the pool of water, around her wrist a silver cuff permanently locked into place, half its chain still dangled from the single cuff and its matching pair nowhere to be found. Her skin glistened as the water rolled off her, streaming off the chain. She found herself staring at it, against the bright background of the Nexus it both contrasted and blended in. She let out her breath slowly and welcomed a lung full of fresh air.
Her white outfit pressed to her body, now drenched in water it has become slightly transparent and allowed anyone to see her body uncensored. She was oblivious to this, or more likely felt no shame for her body and allowed it. Her hair, long, black as night, and completely soaked. It fell like circus tent ropes that were tethered into the barely moving waters below, the ends floated in the clear water like inky shadows created by an octopus to hide her escape from death.
She was alone, and her mind as blank as the world around her. Slowly it began to turn again.

Jak floated on the reflective surface of the fountain in its pool form, his ombre hair like seaweed in the riverbed as some unknown force pushes him closer to shore. He stared up in the blank white sky, under the shroud of death once more. He closed his eyes, he was struggling just to remember his name let alone what was going on around him. Then like a bat to the head, everything all slammed back into place. He let out a silent cry of pain, only those who could see him could hear his frustration as he clutched his head with his right hand.
Images from the prison flash past him like a child's flipbook. He remembered everything in an instant, the messages from DA, the state of emergency that gripped him back in the healing tank room, his sprint ahead without thinking or stopping to make a plan. Foolish right?
He remembered the quick detour to hook up with Daxter, how he had met Ash, who Ash was, and the lengths she'd gone to help someone she barely knew. The images of her fleeing from the army but taunting the ultramarine into fighting her still inspired him.
He remembered Daxter’s lifeless crimson stained corpse.. The image was enough for him to play with the idea of letting the darkness consume him.
But the images of Ash leaping to his side and forcing Erol to back off came back to him. He knew by now that these were just nightmares that plagued you in death, but even if they were just dreams - destructive to the soul or not - they must mean something. For some reason in his broken mental state he thought of Ash as a savior of some sort.
Maybe he shouldn’t ever say that out loud. He barely knew the girl, for one, and another thing about it was the way she looked. He had no room to talk about appearances as he took on the same demonic look as she did on occasion, but if he could do that and still be a good guy he shouldn’t damn her because of how she appeared. Besides, he kind of really liked the way she looked.
It probably didn’t help that it’s been three years since he’s had any companionship other than the wise cracking ottsel, or that she apparently was the flaunt it type. A guy can only ignore what’s right in front of him for so long, and the lack of coverage made even that difficult.
Even now, as he held his eyes shut he could see her in his arms as they escaped the hell that was his nightmare.
He took a deep breath, and another, and then one last one as he forced the death shroud from him. He embraced the calmness of the fountain at this point, he already felt the familiar sickness settle in his stomach and he wasn’t eager to leap into action at this point.
What he didn’t expect was the sound of sloshing water to his left. A brief thought of Daxter coming to greet him passed his disturbed mind, but that wasn’t the case.
Jak’s eyes clenched tighter when he felt water falling against his face, it was simple reflex reaction but in all his time here in Omni’s ant farm he’s never seen it rain in The Nexus so he looked up and into the face of the demon who had saved him in his dreams.
Ash’s face was upside down compared to Jak’s, and it hovered over him with a grin that only a true devil could manage. Her blank eyes were hard to focus on because there were no pupils or irises to stare at, but the closeness of the situation brought a warmth to his face that could almost evaporate the water that dripped from the raised surfaces of her face before it hit him.
From the outside she hovered over him seductively, hips half buried by the shallow depth of the pool, legs spread almost impossibly far to manage this pose, her tail gently waving behind her like a cat that found something to play with finally. She could feel the cold water trying to put out the fire that was between her legs, but it would not succeed. She had no trouble starring into his eyes, and did so with her smile still stretched across her face. After she knew she had his attention, she leaned down.
The Storm Demon closed the gap between them by floating down to plant a kiss on him. But to simplify the kiss with just a word did it injustice. As he sat there with his jaw half-hanging open already, she pressed her own half-open mouth onto his briefly before closing them while letting her tongue slip through and tease his into motion. Whether he meant to or not he began to return her efforts after the third time of repeating the same motion. They could just make out the soft wet noises of their lips combining and their tongues connecting. She let her tongue linger a little longer, slowing the kiss down to something even ‘romantic’ before eventually her tongue was dancing with his. Jack would feel the resin ball of her tongue ring tickle the center of his while they intertwined and slid across each other.
When she felt her arousal was being fed instead of doused by their ‘Spiderman Movie’ kiss she moaned but decided to pull away or risk getting way more into it than either of them intended to right there in the fountain. Omni might not enjoy her defiling his respawn point. She flashed him a grin as she pulled away. “Good morning.” Her voice soft and tired in tone.
Honestly it made Jak forget they had just revived and he expected to look around and see pillows and blankets on a bed while the sun streamed through their window. His felt slightly embarrassed by this, but it was a good distraction from the tightening of his pants and his mostly forgotten dreams. He cleared his throat before setting up, putting his back to her but he wasn’t sure he could ever forget her or her kiss just then. He didn’t know how exactly to proceed after something like that either.
Ash was grinning harder than the Cheshire cat, getting off on his reaction all the same. She stood up, her ink spot shrinking as her new height pulled her hair free of the water, almost entirely. When he looked back again, she was already in the midsts of changing her outfit. A bright blue line danced around her as her outfit both dematerialized and rematerialized, not at all differently from some magical girl anime.
When she was done she wore thick leather combat boot with laces up to her knees, skin tight, low rise, grey denim pants with rips and tears across the front and back of her thighs, a thick studded belt in place to keep her pants up. What little help, if at all, it was to her as the bright blue straps of her thong poked out and over her hips. Strapped to her left thigh she summons The Devil’s Quill. Her dark blue tube top was covered only by a high collared leather jacket with half sleeves. Her hand-cuff the only thing on her arms.
She popped the collar. “Well I hate to kiss and run, but I've got a government’s warning to ignore.” She said, pushing away the sickly feeling in the pit of her stomach and moving to the edge of the pool.
He wasn’t sure if he was hearing her right, and despite there being no hurry to catch her, he struggled to get to his feet and chase her. Jak couldn’t believe that she’d be so bold to walk right back in there shortly after re-spawning. “W-Wait a minute. You’re going back?” He said, a collision of emotions fighting for his attention. He thought she was crazy, but at the same time he admired her guts; he also was desperately scared of losing her after he’s lost Daxter. He didn’t even know if he could or even should resummon him. “But the Summoning sickness.” He tried, anything to get her to stop while his boot slid from under him and the water exploded around him as he fell.
“Is that what this shitty feeling is?” Ash stopped to his delight, and turned to look at him. He was on his hands and knees, looking pathetic while the water ran down every inch of his own body. However, it was the pleading look in his eyes that made her tail flick. Was her kiss that good? Her three piercing brow rose and she waited for him.
Jak became aware that this was her first time to experience death. A part of him wanted to curl up in the dark guilt of being the reason she had died once more, but another part of him wanted to cling to her. “Yes. Respawning takes a lot out of you, for a good bit of time. It’s not wise to jump into another fight.”
Her hips dip as they rock while she turned around to fully face him, she wrapped her arms around herself and smirked. “Fight?” She almost laughed at him. “Please.” She narrowed her eyes but kept up the smile. “As fun as it sounds to go chasing down that stud-muffin, I have other business in Coruscant, business worth risking a little trouble for. I need to get to Tier 5, apparently there was something worth seeing down there I missed on my first visit.” She stopped to look away from him, obviously upset that she missed it - whatever it was. “Now I have to find a way down there with the least odds of running into big, metal, and sexy.”
“First time?” Jak repeated, quietly to himself. At the last second he’d remembered an item he came across before. Now their image comes to him again, and he doubt she’d be wondering how to go back to a place she’s been if she only knew. “I know a way.” He said, offering the truth without being provoked, but then hesitated to tell her. “I’ll tell you what I know, but only if you promise to stay by my side while you are sick.” He tried to put some believable force in his words, but was trying hard not to let her see how critical it was for him to keep his angel of mercy near him.
The eco-worrier watched as her brow lowered, and felt her gaze get stronger on him rather than see the intensity in her eyes. He imagined she could read him like an open book, that not only could she see what he was playing at but also see his guilt for trying to manipulate the situation. But he was afraid if she went, he’d never see her again.
“I’ll come with you, too.” He said, getting up, standing tall, taking his emotions by the horns and making them his. “I need to give them a piece of my mind.”
“Now who’s throwing caution to the wind.” Ash’s voice was full of playful sarcasm, but her words caught his breath in his throat. She noticed that Daxter was nowhere to be found. The subtle markings of a man on a mission of revenge had not escaped her as well. He would get himself killed, or worse. She motioned for him to come closer by waving the cuffed hand towards her core, it rattled like a real handcuff. “That’s sweet of you, Jak.” She commented as he moved closer. “But you don’t need to worry about me.” She shushed him gently when he tried to argue, putting her arms on his shoulders and leaning on him so they were close enough to kiss again. “If it will make you feel better, I’ll wait out the sickness with you. After that though, I gotta go, and I won’t have you coming with me. You’ve already gone through a lot.”
Jak turned his face away from her, unable to look at her while she soothed his soul. The power she had over him was hard to nail down, did she use magic? Was it those dreams that gave it to her? Or was the idea of someone caring about him that powerful? Either way, for the first time in a long while he found himself calm. He didn’t like it, but last time he rushed in without considering options he and 4 others were killed. She was right, he couldn’t repeat his mistakes.
Ash smiled at him, then pushed off his body gently. “Good.” Satisfied he was back in the state of mind he needed to be, she took as step back, letting her hands drag across his shoulders as she disengaged and let him collect his thoughts while she noticed the length of her hair exceeding her height. "What did you want to do then?" She asked, surely he had something he'd rather do than sit at the fountain. She pulled her blade from the sheath strapped to her leg and began to gather her hair. It was too long for action. When every strand was collected she swiftly slices through it with no hesitation.
The three feet of hair went limp in her hands as she put the knife away, now what to do with it?
"How about the beach?" Jak asked, "I could use a vacation." He grunted.
In the Nexus her hand shot through the air and out of the pool of water, around her wrist a silver cuff permanently locked into place, half its chain still dangled from the single cuff and its matching pair nowhere to be found.
