December Monthly Accolades (Until January 19th)

We have finally bid farewell to 2016. But now that the festivities are behind us, we have one more obligation; determine the final Monthly Accolades for the past year!

For those of you who are unaware, the Accolades involve nominating (and later, voting for) those who have outdone themselves in a particular area each month. For variety's sake, the categories for each month may be different.

You have until January 14th to nominate your choices. After that, we will proceed to the voting phase where members will vote among the two individuals with the most nominations for each category. An exception to this is if someone manages to get 5+ more nominations than the runner-up, in which case that person becomes the winner by default.

If you wish to participate, think of who stood out the most in a particular category this month and post your choice, along with a 2-3 sentence long explanation, in this thread. You are not barred from nominating your own characters/threads, nor do you have to fill out all the categories.

The winners will become this month's "Community Stars". And what benefits does this bring? Here is an explanation, courtesy of Alex:

As part of being voted as a Community Star/User of the Month (I use the terms interchangeable mainly because Community Star is less formal-sounding than User of the Month), these members gain a color (you must select this in your User CP) and access to the Omni-World R&D forum.  In the past this was my pseudo-private forum, but it's now a place for myself and others to discuss the Omniverse. This is also the meeting place/brainstorming area for Story Aides and Story Guides, so for all intents and purposes, winning an accolade lets you become a pseudo-Story Aide for the duration of your reign.

Forum access is for the month following a member's selection as a Community Star, and this is irregardless of which 'accolade' you were selected for.

And now for this month's categories:

‘Best’ Character – Which character has you engaged the most?

‘Best’ Writer – Which writer wowed you the most?

Most Helpful – A staffer or a member who gave you amazing feedback on a story or was simply there to help you sort out some of your problems.

Rising Star – Which up-and-coming member stands at the crème of the crop? (must have joined within the last month and a half or have less than 8000 OM)

'Best' Story – What story did you find most riveting/entertaining? (For the sake of giving smaller threads a chance to shine, Dante's Abyss is automatically excluded from the running)

'Best' NPC – What non-player character (can be a site, personal, or story NPC) entertained you the most (for whatever reason). Please note who the 'owner' of said NPC is, just in case I am not familiar with them.

Purple Ribbon - Consider this a bonus category for nominating someone who, while they may not be the best and have all the twitter followers, you believe deserves to be recognized for what they bring the the Omniverse. (The winner must be a DIFFERENT person than last month's winner; the November winner was Scarecrow (now Hellboy))

2016 Achievement Award (x2) - No end of the year accolades would be complete without at least one category dedicated to the entire year. So here we have not one, but two awards to give out. Which two members do you feel had the most positive impact on the Omniverse in 2016, whether IC or OOC?

I'm going to edit some more in later, but I had these off the top of my head.

Rising Star - Luci for a unique character idea, great writing, and a fun presence in the chatbox. Haven't seen anything like this character before, but its a cool backstory adapted very well to this setting. Looking forward to seeing more of what you have!

2016 Achievement Award #1 - Mark. On top of being the grease that keeps this place moving, he's an awesome writer. When he wasn't approving moves and join forms like a fiend, he was blowing us all out of the water in Dante's Abyss and getting us set up for a saga of his own. Plus, he's just a laid back dude that's easy to get along with. Can't ask for any better.

2016 Achievement Award #2 - Jade Harley. She is also one of the ones that tirelessly works for everyone in this site. She's always reading, calculating OM bonuses, and just being hyper aware of what's going on here, which is really cool to know someone's reading what you've put out there. Plus she organized the expedition in the Frozen Fields, wrote for Volvagia (and won), and is now undertaking a star piece quest, all which require a great deal of community involvement.

Also, they both won an accolade nearly every single month this past year.

‘Best’ Character – Dante. I'm not much for brooding loners with giant swords but he makes it works. Scratch that; I HATE brooding loners with giant swords, but all his posts are very readable and engaging, and I'm excited to see where he goes.

‘Best’ Writer – A tough call, truly, but Okor wowed me in the Defense of Darkshire thread, and looking back at his old stuff is pretty consistently awesome. Very tough call.

Most Helpful – Jade Harley, very nice, very active. Honorable mention-Daniel. He approved my thing even though Luci was convicted of sexual assault on a police officer.

Rising Star – Usopp. Great character concept and his move list is hilarious and unorthodox. Honorable mention: King Ghidorah

'Best' Story – Again, very hard, and I read more Coruscant stories than other verses. One of the most memorable stories for me is Invasion of the Vorticons with Lord Zedd and The Future Warrior. The story line is engaging, and the chemistry is hilarious, and that's where my vote goes.

'Best' NPC – Kagetsume, Dawn's demon from Scarred by Insanity.

Purple Ribbon - Trixie, who is doing a really cool thing in Coruscant right now but couldn't find a place anywhere else on this list.

Best Character - I’m nominating Darth Vader cause formerly Jon Snow plays him great. :3

Best Writer - You can argue that it’s not Okor, but you would be wrong. That man is amazing. Also, DUMPSTER MAAAAAAN.

Most Helpful - Fucking Markashi. Sennen Goroshi!!!!! Blargh! Always busy, always around and always gif-ing along.

Rising Star - Luci, no questions asked. I think her character displays the coolest summoning method I’ve ever seen. Not to mention she’s an awesome writer along with it.

Best Story - I dun even know bro. I think Renji v Ballad was nominated last month. I guess windfall is a cool subject to put in here. I totally secluded secondary island free from the hard rules of prime’s omnilium.

Best NPC - Augh I don’t even know. I like all of Renji’s NPC’s that are with the Ashen Blades. Guess I’ll nominate those murder hobos

Purple Ribbon - Amaterasu, She’s always pleasant to talk to and is good at her staff work so I think it’s worthwhile to mention her this month.

2016 achievement - #1 Shawn. It’s a bit more of bias with me, but Shawn was the person who made me feel most welcome when I joined the Omniverse. Suffice to say, the Omniverse would not be as great as it is without him.

#2 Alex. I nominate Alex for the outstanding work that was done with Dante’s Abyss. It’s well known that he’s a busy guy but he always find some time for the site at some point in the year. DA16 really brought a lot of situation up for Amber that needed to be addressed and has changed her as a character.

Though I nominate these two, I solemnly believe that everyone this site make a difference in their own way. I love all you people and thank you for being apart of my life.

Best Character - I'm going to vote Illidan here. Pretty cool guy, and I'm loving his posts so far. Complex motivations, lots of machismo, and internal strife done right. Many props.

Best Writer - Gonna nominate a certain green-themed motorcycle here. Or if you don't like figuring out riddles in order to count votes because you're a mountain of bore, Jade Harley.

Rising star - King Ghidorah. If someone was to ask me before now if playing King Ghidorah'd work on the Omniverse, I probably might have said something along the lines of "errr, if you're sure...".
Seeing this king of the monsters writing has convinced me otherwise, however, and I'm now pretty interested on where the three-headed monster's story will take him.

Best Story - I'd nominate the Assault on Darkshire so far simply because Skeletor's writing's a lot of fun and Illidan's always got a good post to read - but I might just be biased. Still, been a while since I got to see a thread with that much EEEVIIIIIL flying around.

Best NPC - I think I'll have to skip this one for now.

Purple Ribbon - Ammy, for being a bundle of memes and happiness.

2016 achievement -

#1 - Dark Link. May not be writing as much nowadays, due to the fact alt selection threads happen to be Kryptonite to his race ( : P) but he's always working behind the scenes and doing his best to get stuff done, in spite of his crippling DnD addiction.

#2 Doomguy, for being pretty consistently doing something interesting and always being around to help as a sounding board when I'm stuck creatively

‘Best’ Character – Serraph. I love me some Bleach characters and his take on an Arrancar OC is a really cool one. The ball only just started rolling and I can’t wait to see how things turn out.

‘Best’ Writer – Jade Harley/A. J.  Crowley. Both threads she’s currently involved in are so good, which is especially impressive considering how different the characters are from one another.

Most Helpful – Jaaaade again. She puts in a ton of work in many areas, is around all the time and is just genuinely nice about it. She also advertises A LOT for the site, which is a whole other kind of helpful.

Honorable mentions go to Alex for always being free to answer my flow of questions and to ElFailzalot for being my Move lifeline.

Rising Star – Luci. Really cool character concept and some great work so far.

'Best' Story – Call it a bias, but I’m gonna throw ‘The Beginning of the End’ in. Everyone did an impressive job with a really complicated scenario and they deserve the recognition.

'Best' NPC – Minato’s Kito. Really well-written NPC that I’m having a lot of fun working with. Fun times out in the woods!

Purple Ribbon – ElFailzalot. Just an all-around great dude. Dishing out frogs and coolguy banter in the cbox, along with maximum knowledge. Also please see Honorable Mention in Most Helpful above.

2016 Achievement Award (x2) - (not in any order)

1. Zack. The guy helped kill off Volvagia and went on to receive Recognition on his main account, unlocked the prestigious third character slot and survived DA16 (with a Prime NPC no less). I’d say that’s one hell of a year for anyone. Add to that him being one half of our UNBEATABLE Cherub duo and it’s an obvious choice.

2. Alex. Won Hero’s Graveyard, became part of the Omniverse’s first and only 4-way-terrifying-nightmare-fuel of a fusion the Harbinger, claimed a Star Piece, ran the HELL out of DA16, and all of this while being the Archangel himself. Really no way to not put him here.

I'm sure that for each of these two there's even things they've accomplished that I've forgotten to list. Jeez, man.

'Best' Character - HIRO PROTAGONIST and HARLAN HIGGS. Goshdangit, I adore the posts this guy puts out with these two characters. They are so. Freaking. Awesome.

'Best' Writer - Okor! Consistent content, descriptions that defy expectation, and an all-around cool dude when he's around!

Rising Star - Luci! Super interesting prime and a whole horde of unique characters appear in her stories.

Purple Ribbon - Adam/Anderson/gumball/Elfailzalot! It's a mystery why we still call him Adam. (Funny guy, superb writer, frog connoisseur.)

Most Helpful - MARK! MAAAAAARK, who is absolutely KILLING it in move approvals 24/7 and with bonuses and things. Also answers all my dumb questions over skype. <3

'Best' Story - Invasion of the Vorticons!!! Ahhhhh! Two super great writers in this thread, really freaking impressive storyline they're tackling here. What's not to love?

2016 Achievement Award (x2) - (not in any order)

1. Zack/Spur/Lord Zedd/Matrix, otherwise known as ZCAK FIERI, because honestly I don't know what I'd do without him being there to update logs and catch up on things and generally function as the coolest dude on the Cherub team. For IC reasons, same as everything Mark mentioned above!

2. Alex! Oh my gosh, even though he's been so busy with teaching things and life, here he is, updating things and running events and ?????????????????????? How is he so awesome? We just don't know. He must be an alien.

Voting will last until January 19th. You may vote even if you hadn't made any nominations. If you have and a nominee you put forth is in the run-offs, you don't have to cast your vote for that specific category (unless you wish to cast your vote for the opponent instead); your nomination will automatically count as a vote for the nominee.

In cases where a member rather than a specific character wins a category, the winner can (if they so desire) post in the Accolades thread which account should get the colour. That way, those members who already have a nifty colour for their master account have the option to display their well-earned pink colour with a different account.

Rising Star – Gonna have to give this one to Lucci, if only because "Westside Hufflepuffs" is a phrase that I've been waiting my whole life to hear.

'Best' Story – This one'll go to Invasion of the Vorticons. Lord Zedd's a fantastic writer, and I can't help but grin when Saturday morning cartoon villainy is involved.

'Best' NPC – Gildart's Christa, for sure. They seem to be constantly having the snot beaten out of them, whether in DA, or in the Deeps, but it's still an entertaining ride.

Purple Ribbon - I'll give it to Kelly MacAryn, they've been a treat to talk to, and I'm looking forward to writing with 'em.

2016 Achievement Award (x2) - Gotta give one of the awards to Alex for his efforts regarding DA and all the work he's putting into the site. The other award, well, I suppose that has to go to Greg for maintaining the site and giving us all of these lovely, lovely updates.

These accolades have turned out to be extremely tie-tastic. Despite my best efforts, at least some of the categories remained dead even. But since these are the last accolades for last year, I decided...you know what? No reason why we can't make an exception this time around and honour several winners instead of one (or in the case of the Achievement Award, two) for those categories. After all, the ties show that even the community feels they are equally worthy of recognition. =)
