Avengers Assembled:The Omniverse's Mightiest Heroes
#1
It had been some time since Hal's departure and Cap was experiencing mixed feelings. He took Blink and Hal's disappearances mildly personally, yet was glad to have Marcus join the team. Vision was a trusted member and Judy Hopps was proving herself more than capable every moment. His real issue was the lack of action. He was a soldier, a warrior, and Avenger. With nothing to avenge, he felt almost purposeless. He filled his time with exercise and training. He read up ceaselessly o the Omniverse and constantly questioned Vision for information.

Finally, Vision floated through the Danger Room wall during a rigorous session. Landing with a gymnasts grace, Cap finished off the final holographic enemy with his shield and turned his attention to the android. Vision alighted in front of the star-spangled soldier and handed him a communicator.

"I've received an interesting communique, Captain. Now that you're more accustomed to  this world, I though you would want to see this before I presented it to the rest of the team."

"Thanks, Vision." Cap took the communicator with one hand ad slung his shield over his shoulder with the other, allowing the magnetic straps to hold it in place. He took a few moments to scan over the pertinent information before handing it back. "Hopps. Send her. This mission needs a diplomatic touch."

Vision stared blankly for a moment, seemingly processing the suggestion. "Are you sure? Her physical stature presents a series of security risks."

Cap nodded confidently. "Its the heart that's needed here. Now that Camelot is interested in the Avengers Initiative, we'll need to show them what we can do. Hopps may not be the biggest or strongest Avenger, but she's sure as hell the finest agent we have for this type of thing."

Vision finally agreed and returned the communicator to a compartment in his side. "Understood Captain. I'll have Jarvis prepare a Quinjet at once."

With that, the two heroes parted ways. Vision headed out to prepare for Judy's mission while Cap went to tell her about it.

"Hopps! Front and center!" Judy scrambled forward, snapping to attention.

"Cap?

"I need you in Camelot. Consider it a diplomatic mission, and you're the rabbit for the job."

Things were quiet.

A few days had passed since Hal and Blink's departure. It left Judy a bit upset. Blink's, especially. Were they not good enough? Was she not good enough? She didn't want to believe that, but the pessimist in her, no matter how small, kept pushing the thought forward. Kept saying that she give up and move on. But the rest pushed back, insisting that she was absolutely good enough, listing the reasons they left. But hey, that was her existence in a nutshell. Instinct saying no, the rest saying absolutely.

Six days. That was how long it had been since the first mission concluded. The three founding Avengers; Vision, the Captain, and herself, had been training nearly nonstop. All three had their strengths. They knew this. The only thing holding them back was their lack of unity in attacks. That was the primary reasoning behind the hours of exercises. They were all tired by now.

The sixth day was decided to be a break day. One where they'd all simply stop training, and "relax". Of course, they also agreed to do less strenuous, yet still important things. Even though the Captain was still in the Danger Room, likely. Judy was doing research on the Omniverse as a whole, on the Dataverse. There had been an attack at one point, by the denizens of the Underverse. A hell of sorts. Primes were trapped there. She'd have to tell the team about that later.

While she was busy reading, Rogers called her forward, surprising the rabbit. She jumped, scrambling to meet him where he stood.

"I need you in Camelot. Consider it a diplomatic mission, and you're the rabbit for the job."

Memories of that press conference sprang to her mind. She had sent Zootopia as a whole into a near civil war between prey and predators. There had been riots, even a few dead. But she wouldn't allow that to happen again. This time, she wouldn't screw it up.

"Yes, sir. What are my orders?" she asked, trying to drop the tension in her shoulders a bit.

"The people of Camelot are requesting a meeting with a representative of the Avengers. You're the most equipped for the job, being a former police officer."

Judy simply nodded, turning to head towards the hangar. "I got it! Don't worry, I can make this work."

The Captain simply raised an eyebrow. What had she meant, make it work?

Hopps was on her way to the portal to the Nexus. Since she wasn't exactly qualified to fly the thing, the Quinjet had been set on autopilot by the Vision. She had to admit, the view was certainly different from the front, compared to the back. She could actually see now, and it was beautiful. The ocean was nothing like pictures. It almost felt alive, even.

A message from her phone caught her attention. She fished it out of her pocket, turning it on. What she read made her heart leap into her throat. It was a message from the Vision.

It read; The current mission has been terminated, due to a kidnapping spree occurring in Minas Tirith. Everyone set to appear at the meeting is gone. Your new orders: Find the kidnapped parties, and apprehend the person responsible.

She clenched her paw, stuffing the phone back into her pocket. This was really bad. Whoever had kidnapped those people seemed to know they were meeting, else they wouldn't have caught everyone going. So it was her job to find them all, then. With a determined grimace, she hopped out her seat, and exited the Quinjet. The portal to the Nexus was right near the landing spot, conveniently. Staring at it, she took a deep breath.

"Time to find more missing mammals," she muttered, stepping inside.

Marcus found himself a little more trained to the hero’s lifestyle after a while. It took the longest to still feel like he was a terminator himself. He was a human at heart to say the least.  But the terminator did take the multiple attempts of training seriously. He wanted a place somewhere other than wondering the Omniverse but his human emotions did push him to the limits: Did two potential heros, Hal and Blink leave because he joined? That did bother him a bit inside. But the threat of Skynet still attacking the Omniverse was a potential danger.

Plus Skynet had attacked the leader of the Avengers and it was his fault.

Marcus took all his anger out on the holographic terminators floating in and out of the danger room as the terminators seemed all too real a threat as he could feel one pushing back at him as they mercilessly taunted the man turned machine. “Damn Skynet.” He muttered as he smashed them back toward the room.

Skynet was an all too real threat and it could still find Marcus and the Vision nearby if it had to. The Avengers .. or those still around had to know about this, even it did create needless tension between both androids from Dante’s Abyss.

Marcus had stopped the simulation as it ended as he walked toward Captain America.  The terminator had eyed the Captain and frowned “It’s time you knew something about my world..”

“Skynet is here from my world and it’s my fault.”

He squeezed his fist.

He had heard the other smaller avenger, Judy had left on another mission but he had to clear the air.

Despite Cap's extensive research, he had yet to hear of Skynet. He lifted an eyebrow in mild confusion.

"Skynet?"

Marcus nodded slightly and explained the concept of Skynet.

"I've had run-ins with supercomputers in the past. If we had more Avengers, maybe we could tackle this problem head on," Cap mused. "But that's not where we are right now. With Judy out on assignment and two other members MIA, our ranks aren't exactly swelled."

The terminator stood quiet, seemingly processing their predicament.

"Having the Avengers Initiative grind to a halt is the last thing we need," Cap continued. "This... Omniverse needs all the heroes it can get. Maybe once I get this whole 'Dataverse' thing figured out, I can post a call to arms. Until then, just sit tight and focus on training. We need to be on top of our game if Skynet comes knocking."

Marcus nodded, mildly taken aback by Cap's nonchalant acceptance of Skynet's existence. "Understood, Captain."

"Good. Stay sharp, soldier." With that, Cap turned away and headed to the War Room to plan out the Avengers' next move.

"Jarvis, I need you to find Marcus. I've received word that someone needs help on some island nearby. This is going to be his first ever mission as an Avenger."

Jarvis nodded gracefully and padded off into the next room. Cap marched into his quarters and rummaged through his personal affects. His time here had not been wasted, and he had been able to stockpile a decent enough stash of equipment. He slid open the door to his closet and grabbed a dark suit. Similar in style, but not in color to his usual garb, this stealth suit would serve as an undercover uniform. It's sleek black cloth, navy armor, and burnished silver star still maintained a theme however. The deep crimson stripes down the sides of his legs and arms cut through the patchwork of blacks and greys that formed this fresh look. he stuffed the equally dark mask into a pack, along with provisions and tools.

He glanced over to his trusty shield. A moment of thought passed as he considered a new paint job, but was quickly squashed when Jarvis stepped into the room.

"I have had the Quinjet prepared sir. The coordinates have been confirmed as well."

"And Marcus?" Cap insisted.

"I have informed him of the mission sir. He is considering it now."

"Well he better hurry," Cap said, slipping on his shoulder straps and picking up the duffel bag. "Justice waits for no man." With that, he headed for the hangar, hoping the terminator would follow suit.

“I’m the only one besides Judy and you? The man made terminator turned, eying his surroundings again.

Marcus forced himself to keep focusing on the training simulation at hand and it didn’t occur to him as fighting in a real mission until now.

He did get his wish.

Jarvis ran to get the ex-criminal from the training room, as the terminator heard some quick shuffling of various tools.

“Marcus, Captain America has requested your presence on a mission with him.”

The man breathed a sigh of relief as Marcus smirked “Finally! Some real things to practice on…”

The Terminator wore the black leather coat and nodded as he ran toward the large “Quinjet” as the Captain and himself hopped in.

“So Captain, I never heard what mission I was selected for, anyways?”

The terminator eyed the Captain, instantly becoming serious again as the soldier started to brief him. Marcus focused on the new suit the Captain had on, wondering if this was a stealth mission.

"A very important one Marcus." Captain America responded tersely. He laid his darkened helmet and Shield on one of the Quinjet benches and marched over to the central console. With the push of a button a cyan hologram of the surrounding portions of the Vasty deep flared to life.

"I've received word that someone requires assistance on 'Rando Island'. This is our first real chance to show the Omniverse that the Avengers are here to stay." With a swipe of his gloved hand, Cap zoomed in on Rando island, highlighting a small section of the landmass. "This is the estimated location of our infiltration point. Once we have boots on the ground then we need to keep a low profile. I'll be wearing something over my suit," He motioned to a heavy trench-coat hanging over a seat. "And you'll just need to blend in. We're looking for a man with a blue feather in his hat. One you find him, you let me know with this." The Avenger holds out a small black communicator.

Marcus took the comms device and slipped it into his ears. "Do we have any intel on the mission intself?"

Cap shook his head. "Minimal intel on this, but that doesn't mean we leave people out to dry."

A beeping alert on the console indicated that the team was approaching their infil point. the Quinjet automatically entered a cloaked state and Cap slipped a parachute and duffel bag onto his back. "You ready for this soldier?"

With a silent nod, the two Avengers dove out from the bay doors, towards the unknown.
