Favorite Video Game Locations
#1
Hey, so I was playing a game tonight, and was thinking about how much I really loved this one place in it. It's just a place I'd like to be in real life, and always enjoy going back there.

So I figured I'd list not only that one, which is my absolute favorite, but also my top five. In ascending order.

Because the false pretense of suspense pleases me.

People should also list theirs! Pictures if possible.

5. The Tower, Room 6 - Kairo

I love simple, geometric aesthetics, and on that qualifier alone, Kairo is easily the best puzzle-maze game I've ever played. But this room in particular just resonated with me and how my mind works. I can't really explain it, I just love it.

4. Concourse - Star Wars TIE Fighter

This one is mainly a matter of nostalgia for me. Long, looong hours spent playing this game had the image of this hub location etched into my retina for many years. It's just such an exciting and surprisingly immersive way to navigate between different game modes and features.

3. Nebula Belt - Kirby's Air Ride

While Nebula Belt is essentially Air Ride's equivalent of Rainbow Road, I greatly prefer riding through a mostly transparent TRON world on floating surf boards to driving on a stupid, measly rainbow.

2. W-Space, EVE Online

Yes, so, I guess it's apparent that I like space, but no video game has ever combined exploration, tactical combat, and an ever-looming, oppressive cloud of danger than any Wormhole space in EVE online. Let me put this out there; I love secrets, and especially finding them. So when I'm in W-Space and constantly sniffing out new Sleeper sites and enemy fleets, I'm flying on cloud nine (not just because of the Stims.) I remember discovering my first wormhole when they were brand spanking new and the crickets in my gut when I flew through one for the first time, in my noob frigate. It was actually a while before I got righteously smoked by another explorer, but just the ability to scan things down and be like 'HA! FOUND YOU!' was a blast.

1. Majula - Dark Souls II

[Image: Dark-Souls-2-Scholar-of-the-First-Sin-Hi...Majula.jpg]

As far as home bases go, Majula actually kind of sucks. There are all of five people living there at any given time, all the buildings are in shambles, and there actually a few enemies that can bite your ankle if you're not paying attention. But still, the sense of relief when returning here, coupled with the absolute GORGEOUS cliffside, ocean setting gives it a sort of melancholy serenity that I love a ton.
And, we dream of home I dream of life out of here Their dreams are small My dreams don't know fear I got my heart full of hope I will change everything No matter what I'm told How impossible it seems We did it before And we'll do it again We're indestructible Even when we're tired And we've been here before Just you and I
Don't try to rescue me I don't need to be rescued

I cant find any other good images, but the Orokin Moon from Warframe has some very amazing scenery

Well, Warframe in general has some very good locales

Majula would have definitely made it onto my list!

> Sasa Sanctuary - Okami

I just.... really liked this place when playing Okami, I'm pretty sure I spent hours just goofing off with the cute little sparrow people. It was so peaceful and lovely. The Sparrow Clan was definitely one of my favorite group of characters to interact with in the game, too.

> Wigglytuff Guild - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky

This was one of the main areas of the game that I didn't really have a choice of not visiting, but I still liked it very much. The inside had several tunnels and rooms where different members of the guild were allowed to sleep and, among other things, a dining hall. Very comfy. It was such a cheerful, lively area and a great place to start journeys.

> The Roost - Animal Crossing: Wild World

I like the Museum in general, but this café is easily one of the most relaxing areas of the game, even if the entire game is amazingly peaceful. It's also sort of cool when the... I dunno, less 'common' characters appear when they might not show up anywhere else in the game often, making the entire experience magical and one-of-a-kind.

> College of Winterhold - Skyrim

Snow-covered places in games always have a certain charm to me and Winterhold is no different! I like the mixture of ruin and magicalness clinging to the college especially. Super atmospheric and interesting.

This list will be updated as I gain more favorites.

Princess Peach's Castle(Super Mario 64)

I think that this place is one of the most beautiful hub worlds I've ever seen. You could live in this thing. It's one of the most innovative things I've seen on the N64. And look at all the different areas in the place. I just love it.

While this is also nostalgia based, I have always been partial to the Friendly Arm Inn from the first Baldur's Gate.

I played this game a TON when I was around 8, and far too young to actually understand how to play the game.
Even getting to this place was something I found a decent accomplishment.

More recently, but keeping with the genre of easily accessible and sort of not noteworthy: Balmora from Morrowind
[Image: latest?cb=20130310072009]
rarely has a town felt like it could actually support the population, but this town has both enough houses that it feels like it could actually have the people, and enough places to go that it felt like there were multiple merchants and places for people to go. I haven't played any more recent TES games, so I would imagine there where others that have been better since then.

I've got more I'm sure, but I couldn't think of any more just now.
If history is to become legend, it first must be recorded.

(This list will probably be updated more as I think up more, like with Joker. You'll probs also get a sense as to the kinds of games I like to play if you look at these xD.)

Ditto with Joker.  ALSO, apologies if some images are warped, trying to keep them small and all, so I'm stickin' with a max height of 400 whatevertheyares.

1) The island from Myst (duh)
This game.  THIS GAME is the pinnacle of confusion.  I hate confusion half the time, as I feel normally I should have a grasp of what's going on... but for some reason, this island made me confused and I didn't care.  It felt like a mystery-filled adventure to solve the many puzzles of the island, and even if the graphics are not as stunning as they could be if remade today, I still thing this game looks really stunning!  If only my actual copy would run on windows 7.

2) Mystery Mountain (Jumpstart 3rd Grade)
HUSH YO FACE, I know what you're potentially thinking, and I don't care.  I love this game, even if it is boring to me these days.  So many days were spent throughout 2nd through 5th grade playing this game with my sister, preparing me for things like "Omnivores" or space or anything else I never actually learned in 3rd.  Heck, to this day, I'm still learning various trivia.  Already forgot it, though.  SHEESH, what kind of 3rd graders ARE these?!

3) Perplexing Pool (Pikmin 2)
Listen to that tune, MMM is that some good music!  Gives a sorta whimsical sense to the place, and if you go to the right spot (or listen to the end of GilvaSunner's video of it), it has an amazing beat with percussion starring the bongos.  The area itself is also memorable to me as well, as it IS a pool.  I used to love swimming all the time, especially when I was a kid and played this game, so coming back to the Perplexing Pool brings me back to my early childhood.

4) Tida (Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles)
"The sun once smiled on this village more than any other. But one day, their crystal's blessing faded. The villagers eagerly awaited their caravan's return; but for them, the crystal would never shine again. It is said that not a single one of them tried to escape. All stood fast waiting for the caravan, hoping to the very end. After hearing that tale, I felt the weight of my burden like never before."

My favorite apocalyptic settings are the kinds where buildings are busted with holes in the walls and roofs, the air is thick and gives the surrounding area a shade of sickly green, and the clouds are also afflicted with this color scheme as well.  Such a scene just paints a feeling of dread or deadness in my soul when I gaze upon it with my mind's eye.  This is why I love Tida.  Also, the boss is a somewhat magic or paranormal building robot.  Gravity falls, you TALENTLESS HACK!!  (ImsorryIstillloveyoupleasecomeback)
New Home (Undertale)
[Image: latest?cb=20160207132849&path-prefix=de]
Great Gatsby, just LOOK at dat parallax!  But seriously, New Home is one of those areas that really resonated with me.  Mostly due to the fact that it helped completely shape my opinion of Asgore beyond the tidbits given by Papyrus and Monster Kid (I didn't befriend Undyne first go around).  It reminded me of Toriel and showed me a correlation between her and the king of all monsters.  The heart locket and worn knife.  The connection between Toriel's home and New Home was made as soon as I got to the door.

And when I did the genocide run, the way Flowey spoke with me and told me of his transformation made me think about my greed as a gamer to unlock everything, regardless of my previous experiences and regardless of the bond I created with these characters.  Granted, I just wanted to fight Sans, but that's not an applicable excuse.  So many people mention how Flowey disses anyone who watches a Genocide run, but I feel that the sentences he says before that also hold a lot of meaning.  Probably my favorite quote from the whole game, actually.

"I've done everything this world has to offer. I've read every book. I've burned every book. I've won every game. I've lost every game. I've appeased everyone. I've killed everyone. Sets of numbers... Lines of dialog... I've seen them all."
Anywhere from a Zelda game. But specifically:

Zora's Domain. I want to live there. A cave of bright, warm pools, lovely music ... whenever I want to relax I put on that music.

But also Kokiri forest. I like the feeling of being enclosed. And I love trees and forests.

Less awesome than others, but, welp
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!

Skyrim- Bethesda really did an amazing job on little details of the world. The entire landscape is just beautiful
You can't stop crime. That's what you never understood. I'm controlling it. You wanna rule them by fear, but what do you do with the ones who aren't afraid? I'm doing what you won't, I'm taking them out.

I love the setting for almost every Assassin's Creed game I play. The crews that work on the details in all those historical locations... those people are unmatched.

It almost makes up for how repetitive those games are and how god-awful the plots are. Almost.

I also liked Super Mario RPG's take on the Mario world, and it should be obvious that File Island a la the old Digimon World games was also something I thoroughly enjoyed.

Definitely the Citadel (Mass Effect series):

There's just so much diversity onboard. Above you've got this weird Vegas/Cyberpunky thing, but you also have austere imagery like this:
[Image: MassEffect2citadel1.jpg]I've always been blown away by the imagery of ME.  There are so many more examples.

The Assassin's Creed locations are definitely breathtaking - the attention to detail is next-level. Really good stuff. I do agree that it doesn't make up for how terrible the games are though.

Midgar (Final Fantasy VII) comes to mind:

There are so many others. I don't think it'd be practical or fair to list them all.
