@Sammy: You can't even get into the actual Pokemon Trainer Club. Pokemon Trainer Club services are down, Pokemon Go or not.

I've got an Oddish and a Venonat that both have a little over CP 100, and this just their first form.

Okay, got some stuff to talk about.

First of all, got a Scythe on radar today. Was one footprint away, mega hype, and then it voiped.

Confusedkeptic:

I do have some observations to make.

First, I think I've surmised the problem of low spawn rates in the boonies. It's not actually a matter of location, rather, distance traveled from your starting position.

Remember, one of the main motivators of this game is to try and get people moving, so I think you can get plenty of spawns outside of urban areas, you just have to get walking.

I tested it thusly: I left point A, my house, with no pokemon on radar. As usual, as I took my dog for a walk, critters started popping up, which I had always assumed was because I was heading in the direction of town.

However, as an experiment, when I got to our turnaround point, I shut the game off and started it again. By that point I had a full radar, so rebooting, they should still be there, right?

No.

My radar was blank again. Where there had been nine pokemon, now there were none (lost track of two Oddish :.( ). The clincher, however, is when I started walking back home, out of the city. As I got closer to home, my backyard, which had been blank, was now full of pokemon.

So! If you're pokeng around somewhere and nothing is showing up, just start moving. I usually find that within a hundred yards of walking I start getting spawns.

NUMBER TWO

Have a sidewalk near your house?

Like to walk up and down it for a casual hunt?

Have wifi?

TURN THAT SHIT OFF.

I find that any time the game loses connection for even of a fraction of a second (say, when your phone switches between 4G and Wifi as you walk past your house.) your radar will freeze.

All the polkamobs you were tracking still show up in your radar, but you'll suddenly find that the mans stop shuffling around in your radar grid (based on distance) no matter how much you walk or how much you violate private property.

Your are in pokelimbo.

Under the illusion that you're playing, when really, you are making no progress. Pokestops and gyms and everything else still work, but your radar is essentilly frozen.

Reboot. Turn off wifi. Start walking.

Also, here are just some pieces of advice:

1. Protect yourself!
Ticks and fleas and chiggers oh my! Treat any rural pokehunt like a hike. High socks, long pants and a spritz of insect repellant will go a long way if your radar takes you off-trail. Seriously. I've flicked like five ticks off my pants since I started playing.

2. Heed the warnings!
This applies to all warnings against tresspassing, etc. But the main one is on the opening screen. Yeah, when we're one footprint away from that bulbasaur we're like ravenous wolves, but you are capable of looking ahead and tracking. You only need to glance at your phone every minute or so, so don't do it when you're trying to cross a highway. Also, don't hunt and drive. That is the absolute worst thing you can do.

3. Play with the AR off!
It's kinda fun, but doesn't add THAT much to the game. Shout out to Desco-chan for the heads up about battery life and not needing to aim. It really conserves pokeballs. Especially if you're hunting at night.

All cell phone cameras are universally crappy, so at night, your AR is just going to look like a solid black backdrop. This is important, because it means the poor AR algorithms can't tell where you're pointing your camera, and the critter will start wobbling all over the screen like it's peanutbutter jelly time.

Final point against AR: when you track a polkamarch down, it means you won't have to point your camera, say, at someone's house, or car, or face. The house one is extra important: when burglars are sizing up a house to hit, they often take pictures of them. Cops have been alerted because of some stupid Zubat.

4. The game needs to be active and running to log distance for your eggs. That means on the screen, GPS connected. Not tabbed out, not screenlocked. On the screen and running. It is very annoying but that is how your distance is logged.

5. Save your incense!
Incense is expensive in the gold store and rarer to find at a pokestop than most rare critters. Save it for when you're somewhere exotic...or at least a local park.

6. Don't Fear the Police!
If you absolutely must go poking around somewhere questionable, don't try to be sneaky or inconspicuous. You probably actually aren't, and it makes you look 9000 times more suspicious. When you inevitably talk to a policeman, just be totally honest. You're playing a smartphone game that tracks your location and had a special thing in the place you were discovered. People do dumber things for stupider reasons, and it is far from the most awkward thing that cop will encounter today.

Now if you're legit trespassing, you might still be in trouble, but being honest in the first place will really, really help you out. If you're in a public space, however, and a cop stops you, they can only give you a stern warning...at least, where I live. :cross:

subtext: graveyards are not off limits

Sorry if any of this sounds preachy or pompous. It's just stuff I've experienced that I thought might help.

If you want to figure out where the pokestops are near you (or gyms) use this site. https://www.ingress.com/intel

Its for Ingress but all portal locations are pokestops etc and vice versa. Go was based on Ingress.

When eevee evolves, it's a random outcome, srry. :./

The game wants you to use your balls as much as possible.

I absolutely love this game! I already have a 20 different Pokemon, including a pikachu and a bulbasaur (mainly I have normal and grass/poison types.

(Also I believe you can have a maximum of 250 Pokemon, including duplicates. I have 55/250 storage space used up by Pokemon, but I have caught only 20 of 133. I'm pretty sure someone was asking about this.)

Oh. That makes more sense.

Also, after further testing I can confirm that pokermen spawn based on how far you move from your starting point, not necessarily where you are in general.

Save your low quality pokemon and keep saving them until you level up/find/purchase a Lucky Egg.

Then evolve as many of those pidgey as you can within that duration. each evolution is 500 xp which doubles with Lucky Egg to 1000 xp.
#32
Speaking of evolution, make sure to power up your 'mon as much as possible before evolving them. Their power goes up almost exponentially based on what their base form had. Yeah, this means catching a hell of a lot more critters, but no one wants a gimpy gyarados.

Research suggests The max CP is random and based on your level. So you will catch stronger pidgey at higher level. Powering up your pokemon has nothing to do with it which makes a lot of sense given how the system works.

You have that half moon bar that represents how much power is unlocked. A fully lit bar means full power and your evolved pokemon maintain the same level.

On top of this raising to max level gets progressively more expensive and preserves this on leveling up.

I'm inclined to believe what the reddit posts suggest that powering up your pokemon before or after evolution doesn't matter. The only real test to prove it is to take two pokemon with the same CP and the same progress in their power caught at the same level and power one then evolve both and power the other.
#34
New information.

All pokemon with the same Species have the same max power based on your trainer level. As you level that CP Bar gets smaller making space to power up that Pokemon you got at level 1.

Not recommended to keep powering up the same pokemon as you can catch higher powers at higher level too.

If you want to just walk and not constantly look at your screen/stop it from locking, hold the phone upside down (as in, straighten your arm and walk like normal) and the screen will go black, but the app will still be on. The phone will then vibrate/make a noise if you come across a Pokemon/Pokestop/Gym.
